Growing up in Australia as a teenager I really took John for granted. Now I’m 30 years older I truly respect everything what he has done for Australian music. Absolute genius beautiful man

If this is the sound check, the warmup, can you imagine what the concert was like? John’s backup singers and musicians are the best. He really took Led Zeppelin’s Black Dog to another level. John Farnham is the GOAT!😁
His band is full of serious talent - everyone wanted to play with him
John Farnham is so disciplined. His warmup / mike check is usually an hour long to help him get in the zone. Then he goes out and performs at 110% for a 1-2 hour show.

Wayyyy better alright. His voice, every vowel, every note, any genre, 3hrs deep, any age. You'd never find a bad live performance even in his 60's (he is in his 70's now & has cancer, likely never be able to sing again after having part of his jaw removed) 😭😭😭😭😭😭 He puts EVERYTHING in EVERY performance, crowd or not. And HIS band were with him for life. Just as critical to him as his voice.
As an Aussie who grew up with Farnham's music, I thought I knew what he could do with his voice. Then I heard his rendition of Black Dog, and his scene from the garden of Gethsemane in Jesus Christ Superstar, and I realised I hadn't fully understood how incredible he really was 😍
Same here. Didn’t fully understand the incredible range he was blessed with. I’m 71 now and when I watch these reaction videos, I now realise the pure genius that is John Farnham.
Likewise. I just spotted a series of YT vids "John Farham can sing anything" which covers a bunch of Farnsey works in 18 genres. Absolutely blew me away. I still think this one is maybe the best demonstration of the power and skill of this awesome talent.

This bloke makes every Australian so proud..apart from his voice and musical range, he loved every show he did from Syd Opera House to the Outback + Timor ...as Fair Dinkum Aussie he never took him self too seriously even unashamed talking about his time as a plumber and putting his arm down the "S Bend"...We love you mate, I cant sing a fucking note but I feel so proud and connected that I come from the same State and Country as you mate. I've made it compulsory that my kids know about you the bloke and your talent, music and the enjoyment you got from performing and being an Aussie

It did eventually make to a rarities album along with some other songs that were never included on other albums. So lucky the sound engineer pushed the play button
And his band included some of the best musicians in the country.
Yes had a band of top tier musicians and backing singers that mostly stayed with him his whole career. And thank goodness a sneaky engineer recorded it!
It did apparently make it to one performance in Brisbane qld.

I can imagine any singer in that era cringing in a corner when they heard that Farnsey was doing their song. (Ok, not Barnsey🤣🤣) Farnseys diction is absolute perfection. Can hear EVERY word he says.

It's funny you say that, I read something by Jimmy where he talked about standing side of stage waiting to come on to join John and getting more and more terrified as John got better and better with each song. I feel like it's gotta be that time they did When the War is Over.
@@devi_- definitely agree. But Barnsey is about the only one able to match JF. OK maybe Tom Jones, but that's about it.
@@LizzieRD they've both definitely got the power, range and tone but I don't think anyone can match him on his agility, creativity, phrasing and control AND versatility on top of all that - imo of course. They're all incredible. And omg you have to give it to Tom his voice is in amazing shape and he's the oldest!
John has always had a great band behind him and his backing vocalists were the same, they played so much together they wer like a family, and if you watch any of his live concert video's (which you should!) you will see the same old faces. they just played so well together, and John was always shouted out to his band at every gig.
He can sing ANYTHING.

@@lyndoncmp5751 All the vocalists who actually understand music and singing disagree with you. He’s got a far bigger range than plant, and can sing everything from this to opera. The painful fact is that John Farnham is a FAR superior vocalist to Robert Plant on any measure of the art.
I listened to these guys as a kid. No bull, I'm 65 and jam them alot. I love this music!!! This is good ol, Rock & Roll.

Honestly guys, in John’s performances this is his sound check and omg, he’s the best of all time and no one else can sing this song like John geeezzz, wtf and omg John is the only voice who can pull this off
You are on to it. No point the lead singer being warmed up and the band sitting back. This song warms everyone up and motivates the team. A bit like a HAKA before coming out and facing the springboks... That's done, now let's smash the show.
P.S. and John’s band really is phenomenal. Every single person in John’s band really has the talent to make what ever music John needs to happen. I mean, C’mon, the band is unreal, the music is amazing and John is just singing his best riffs to match Led Zeppelin. C’mon this is not normal, this is incredible!🇦🇺👏👏👏🦘❤🥇

Oh yes , this was just a little ditty John uses for a sound check. The band and BV’s are really fantastic in this too. Loved your reaction - love all your reactions to John.
Never performed. It was his warm up/sound check. He recognised that it probably wouldn’t suit his diverse audience (8 to 80). The only reason it exists is because one of his sound techs hit record

@@Dr_KAP was definitely a tech hit record during a sound check. This was live with no audience. There’s a reason we all say John Farnham should always be reacted to live

His diction is clear and his notes are spot on the mark this was recorded long before auto tune. His band has had people like Tommy Emanuel as the lead guitarist at different times his key board player is David Hersfelder and has an impressive resume, all three of his backing singers have successful solo careers. they all love working with John as he is a genuine person
This was not performed on stage it was a warm up song for himself , his backup singers and band before concert performances. Thi was recorded by a sound engineer on the sly.
Consider this. This was a warm up. It’s not rehearsed for a performance. It’s basically a jam session.
He only ever used it as a Mic. Check.

He has the power and ability to distort microphones, amps, and speaker stacks. So this sort of setting up the venue test is a must. Lol
No kidding, they use 10db Pads on the mics in order to prevent him blowing mics with distortion! Truth!
Two guitarists; Stuart Fraser (Australian Legend, RIP) and Brett Garsed (long, long time John Farnham guitarist amongst side projects), who is not just great on the guitar but comes across as an all around good guy as well.

Just watched your reaction again, and thought as you liked Johns vocal range so much, maybe you could react to him singing "Please don't ask me' in a live concert with Olivia Newton John. This is not your typical song you would react to, but if you want to her a different side to John but still hear him belt out a song, give it a go.
I so wish that you guys would have seen John in his prime years. He was the best vocalist Australia had ever produced. Even though he was born in England in 1949. He came to Australia when he was 10 years old and was naturalised as an Australian when he arrived

I just found out he did record it. On an album called rarities that I haven’t heard of either.
Today I have tickets to a screening of John’s movie for Mother’s Day. I get to see it 4 days before it is released. I knew I became a Mother for some reason. 😂
This version was the one released on rarities 😊 such a great album with so many gems!!

FYI the guitarist in this recording and the Melbourne Symphany Orchestra stuff is Brett Garsed, the same guy on Derek Sherinian's first Planet X album with Virgil Donati. Farnsey always had the best of the best!

This is a sound check. The engineer recorded it, so here we have another classis gold Farnsey song. Can't tell you how much I wish John had recorded more rock music. It's been said that he has a lot of unreleased songs. Perhaps in time we may hear them? Feb. '24. UK E ❤

Led Zeppelin set the pace but John Farnham won the race with this song. John only has the best singers and musicians in his band so that's why they sound so good and tight. Yes, he has a high standard and shows respect for his band and they for him. Also, Farnsey is known for just getting up 'off-the-cuff' without intended rehearsals, practise or preparation and killing it! I've seen him do it on TV interview shows and have seen musicians testify to this! Such is his talent! A film about his singing career is to be released in Australia on May 18 th, named 'Finding The Voice'.

This was issued on Anthology 3 - Rarities. The liner notes state "Recorded at sound check during the Talk of the Town tour at Melbourne Park. This song was only ever performed once in front of an audience - at the opening show of the tour in Brisbane".

How good is Johnny?
No disrespect to Led Zeppelin but John, WOW, this legends voice just nailed this song sorry but way better than Led Zeppelin. John can really sing any genre and in my opinion he is the G.O.A.T for that reason and his range is out of this world. One song I would like you to check out is Cold Chisel's song but sung a lot better by John is 'When The War Is Over' ua-cam.com/video/BekbvlLzMWc/v-deo.html. He sings this with the emotion the lyrics deserve and it leaves a tear in the eye.
There’s always something worthwhile to experience when top level musicians play Zeppelin with the right intent. While we may consider that some high calibre vocalists are better singers than Plant, we could also say that lots of guitar players can play at least as accurately as Page , they ain’t no Jimmy Page. John’s a phenomenal vocalist but he didn’t write Stairway or Kashmir or much that was a part of the catalog of influence that shaped music.
