I need anyone who is considering buying this laptop that this thing has the worst speakers on any device I’ve heard ever. I’m not even trying to be funny, the speakers are tinny, have zero bass and will pierce your ears at higher volumes. I bought it during black friday and it’s not even worth it at a discounted price unless you only plan to use headphones. I returned the laptop personally.
I recently bought the Predator 18 240hz RTX4080 i9-13900 model with 1TB M.2 and 16GB RAM and am very impressed. I don't use it for gaming but needed a powerful laptop for astrophotography processing which utilises the GPU. The first one came with broken seal so was returned. The second one has a slight scratch on the lid but having already returned one I decided to keep it. Not a great start but the build quality seems pretty good, I like the aluminium lid and deck, the bottom is plastic but providing its not abused should be fine and you don't see the bottom very often. I don't really understand benchmarking but I ran PassMark with out of the box settings and got a score of 6834. Interestingly the individual scores and total are virtually identical to my, what I consider powerful, desktop which has Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4 (3200mhz) and RTX 3060. I have since added another 16GB RAM and an extra 2TB M.2 to the Predator - very easy to do and much cheaper than buying the 32GB model from the outset. I understand that it may take more than the manufacturers 32GB RAM limit according to PHP-Memory but I didnt want to risk having issues to stuck to 32GB. I then reran PassMark and was gobsmacked to get a core of 12,776 ( I repeated the test and got a similar score). I certainly didn't expect this and don't know what to make of it - the only significant difference between the pre and post upgrade tests were the 3D mark scores which were 6185 and 24701 respectively. I can only think that perhaps the original test used the integrated GPU(?), if so its still impressive. So, some other thoughts. I use the laptop on my lap. It is heavy so I bought the Belkin laptop Cushdesk which whilst not perfect, as it does flex a bit, does help, I also put a cushion between my legs so the couch takes most of the weight. It is very easy to use like this, I love the keyboard, very precise. The touchpad works fine but I use a mouse. The 18" screen size is excellent, great when using two panes side by side - it is very bright and clear - I didn’t want the mini-led screen due to astrophotography processing. Under testing my screen has very bad bleed on the left side of the bottom edge but in practice I haven't noticed it when using the laptop. I couldn’t detect any dead or hot pixels so lucky there. The laptop is silent when used for everyday tasks, browsing, email, word processing etc. It does get loud when running full throttle but it is moving a lot of air. According to CPUID HWmonitor during the CPU benchmarking the CPU was running around 80C with peaks in high 90’s. The GPU ran cooler peaking in high 80’sC. I have no idea how it compares to similar laptops but it does what I need and as things stand I am very happy with it. If it lasts as long as my 2009 ASUS N55SL, which I still use, it will have been a good buy - only time will tell.
I purchased the 16inch version today. It has bad screen bleed down the lower edge of the screen in almost the middle of the screen. Anytime the screen is totally dark, I can see the bleed coming through the bottom of the screen. It might be different if the bleed was subtly along the bottom from let to right. It is only in one spot on the bottom edge, just left of center. I will be taking it back, so I can order a replacement laptop. Fingers crossed the second one will not have any issues.
I just got this laptop with the i9 14900hx, rtx 4080 32gb ram and I highly recommend it to anyone reading this guy's comment. It's on sale for 2,200 USD at best buy and sells for 2,999USD on Amazon. It's an absolute MONSTER
READ CAREFULLY: Your reviews were good before, but now you are making them worse and worse. This laptop has main issues and you didn't mention them at all. interfere between sound and Fn functions including RGB and touchpad, and very bad ergonomy for typing (the standard size for hand support is about 9CM, but this laptop has more than 11cm hand support tail which is super annoying when typing. It's very heavy and the charger is huge. the webcam does not support Windows Hello. Ram support is set to DDR5 4800 and it does not support DDR5 5600. There is 2 useless Thunderbolt USBs back there and you can not use them to charge your laptop with them and get rid of that heavy 330W charger anywhere. you just keep saying aluminum body like all other UA-camrs but you never worked with a laptop to understand how thermal conductive and bad it is. it get hot and cold based on the conditions and it's not comfortable at all. THESE ARE THINGS THAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU TO SAY. NOT SOME KIDDOW JOKES ABOUT GAMES AND SHOWING OFF THINGS.

Um, the sticker on his laptop says it's the 240hz model, which is NOT the mini-LED model. I've been looking for reviews of the 18" mini-LED screen, and this isn't it. Like others have said, this plays more like a commercial than an actual review.
Thermals are fucked on any new gaming laptop because the hardware just uses insane amounts of power these days, expect a baseline of no less than 90°C while gaming, and like 50-60 idle.

@@SportsIncorporated That looks very similar to the one I got, does it have padding at the bottom of the laptop sleeve? My main concern is putting the bag down and damaging the corners of the laptop. I lay it flat on its straps at the minute.

Who cares?! You're not primarily supposed to game on battery mode anyway. It's for work and when transferring there pc between A and B. If I'd choose I'd take 50% way of the battery and do more thermal design and add some other room for the real goodness
I only use my laptop connected to a power source tbh so most times battery life is never really a concern for me lol, I do my school on my surface book pro so I don’t mind getting a bigger beefier laptop, I only wish they had an 18 inch version with an AMD processor 😢
The thing about acer laptops is something always breaks within 3-4 years. Either it doesn't power up or the hard dives dies or the keyboard stops working. If you're going to spend money just avoid Acer its not worth the hassle. They don't build quality and I've had a couple of them long term now and always have problems.
Sadly you can say that about most of them. I read tons of reports of Lenovo legion and Asus laptops dying with various faults and others singing their praises. There will also be certain years where one companies laptop will be great but the next year it'll be the most avoided thing by everyone due to a "common fault". I'm sitting here on an 8 year old clevo chassis based gaming laptop because my shiny XMG died within a year, they are THE worst company I've ever had to deal with and would never touch one of their laptops again. Saying that, I'm sure plenty have had great experiences with them! Just the luck of the draw....
Never during my almost 25 years of using laptops have i ever had issues with warranty, as long as i turned up with a laptop without and real visible damage on the outside, they fixed whats wrong in the inside, has a Toshiba, Asus, MSI, and this pred 18 i just bought says 4 year warranty, so if it breaks down im good.
@@culhwch7656 I sent mine back to XMG in Germany, paid £150 as they no longer covered the return fee due to us leaving the EU. XMG eventually issued me a refund, with the current exchange rate I lost near to £300. I'm still trying to get the import duty back via HMRC. Just an advert for Acer. Why are there no in depth reviews for this laptop. All the usual reviewers say they are still waiting for one to review. Feels like Acer are hiding something with this one, is the performance not good enough, is the cooling poor? Why do none of the current online reviews cover these details?
I just bought this with the Mini LED screen. It is an amazing machine. Bear in mind the last time i was into PC's I had a desktop i7 and GTX980ti, the performance is like nothing ive ever experienced. I would say the build quality is good, not amazing like a macbook pro etc but that is just due to the plastic cover at the bottom, everything else is aluminium. I've been playing cyberpunk 2077 at 1600p, everything maxed out with path tracing and DLSS on balanced. Getting an average of 55-80 fps with the laptop in performance mode. It gets around 70-90 in turbo mode but the fans are too loud unless you are wearing headphones so I keep it on performance mode. Im very happy with my purchase. I would have loved a strix scar but that was another £1000 on top for a small improvement in build quality and no Mini LED screen. (Mini LED is worth it)
It's because Acer are crap at marketing. Asus and other brands will release lots of units for review but that doesn't make them better. As far as I know, Acer are the only ones to release an 18" Mini LED version. If anything, this is a poorly marketed gem of a laptop.
@@zXIaDaMIXz Hi, does the display reach 1000 nits only when watching HDR content or also in normal web-browsing or other SDR-stuff? Thanks a lot in advance, I'm looking forward to your response!

(Mini LED is worth it)
@@zXIaDaMIXz I recently bought one too and am very impressed - will post details above.
@@ThatGuy_0815 I'm not 100% sure. When switching HDR on in windows settings it defaults to the brightest setting. When SDR is on in it doesn't seem as bright as HDR at the highest backlight setting.
How far does the screen tilt back?
