Didn't realize he only muted the E on the A string. All the octaves and intervals on the high G string during the intro are not muted.......less impressive.
Him and Garibaldi together. But you're right. If Rocco isn't playing in it, TOP just doesn't sound the same. It's like that secret recipe you're trying to cook and "something" is just missing from the taste.
Obviously finger-funk is synonymous with Rocco but it is for a reason. When I wanted to adopt this style I went straight to the source. I picked up a lot of cool stuff from him and decades later I still implement the lessons learned.
Thank you for sharing the video ! I put some notes for myself. They are quite a lot of cool stuff to learn and exercices to practice : 20:02 21:14 31:30 38:16 41:50 1:06:50
Tower of power err think that says it all 😂 Francis Rocco Pretia ❤ only got to see them once blew me away,,,,, bought URBAN RENEWAL week it came out err their new Xmas Lp hey you guys it's not cheesy it's sensational ❤
It was with that exact clip that I found out about Francis Rocco Prestia and fell in love with the style… and decided I want to learn the bass. Hell of a groove.
@@AlexRamosDrTaz !!! Funny you mention, I almost just got an RG560 in black, for $250w/case. Looking for another, or any non-pickguard RG as a project. Maybe I just need to build one up from parts, I have a neck...
@@McDoinky lmao are you guys talking about later endorsements, or in this video? Because either I’m fucking blind, or it says Fernandes on the headstock.. that is a FRB-90, I own likterally the exact instrument.. unmistakable..
The earlier Conklin had the "c" kinda going around... and pretty much the same type of letters than Fernandes.... maybe he used a fernandes for some occasions?
His string action is so high that the strings buzz as soon as pressure from his finger is reduced, he should of lowered his bridge saddle screws by at least half a turn at the very least....
Don’t worry if you can’t sound like Prestia. No one else can either

Lol. True!
For every note other bassists do, he does 3 extra! Man, I miss him!
This is one of the most focused instructional videos out there.
Bad Ass Rocco Prestia...one of a kind...No other bass player will ever be able to replace him or do him justice in T. O.P!!!!
They're gonna be playing near me, but I don't think I'm going with no Rocco. 😔
What makes his playing flashy is the groove. Swinging
This is a priceless gem of bass wisdom! Bassists of the world, take heed.
Jaco Pastorios was inspired by Rocco. That speaks volumes.
His playing really carries the whole groove of the band, doesn't it? It's what makes their tunes so infectious.....

Superb and Rocco is missed!
Evoluí muito meu pizzicato estudando esse cara! Era muiiito bom no seu estilo. Gosto muito!!
used to have this VHS. Thanks for posting
Thanks for this post! Grateful for UA-cam!
The drummer is struggling at 15:18 for a few bars. Rocco saves the day!
Cool! Thank you
9:48 what is hip
You had me at Tower of Power. Man! He's got some kinda chops!
Unico,, grandissimo 😍
great band great vocalist......geez.
I Can't play bass, I'm a pianist but this is insane!
Yes you can, Yung grasshoppah. But you must believe. Lol.
But forreal, I play bass and I feel the same way.
So the octave in the What is Hip line isn't actually muted?
Only the root is?
Anyone confirm?
still wondering
Рокко! Супер!
Young Euge Groove! Killin' it as every other member of the band :-)
THis is better than slapping.
I guess the best way to put it is everyone slaps and when someone plays very funky fingerstyle (much harder) you notice it and appreciate it :)
Id be trying to lower the action. Its real high but obvious works for Rocco.Maybe bass needs more string height than 6 string?
Tower of power err think that says it all 😂 Francis Rocco Pretia ❤ only got to see them once blew me away,,,,, bought URBAN RENEWAL week it came out err their new Xmas Lp hey you guys it's not cheesy it's sensational ❤

I’ve been trying to play the baseline at 38:17 for the last 7 years and still can’t get it like that lol.
It was with that exact clip that I found out about Francis Rocco Prestia and fell in love with the style… and decided I want to learn the bass. Hell of a groove.
Solid as The Roc
Anyone have the list of tunes in this lesson? Thanks!

Awesome!
Cool

Does anybody know if there are vids or a full video from those bits where the whole band plays?
What book goes along with this lesson? Neither book linked in the description has lessons.
Bass Bible
Does anybody have the book he refers to?
I didn’t know Shawn Michaels was in a band.
and Carmen Grillo on guitar, a Kramer no less
That's a guitar I wanted at the time. Came close enough with the Ibanez RG560 (still have it). :)

He must be on that good shiznit
The outtakes at the end make that seem pretty certain. 😂
First let me tell you about myself..I'm a Meth user thanks to Victor Conte
Now we know where Joe Dart got it from😎🎸
What is that bass he's playing?
Conklin, then went esp
It’s most definitely a Fernandes
@@mikew6990 the guy above you is right, its a conklin

He must've smoked alot of cigarettes
This is great but man, Rocco, CLEAR YOUR THROAT
He passed away 2 years ago, unfortunately. His voice can't get any clearer than that.
이때는 연습 열심히 안하신듯 약간씩 쩔뚝 거리시네요ㅋ ㅋ
His string action is so high that the strings buzz as soon as pressure from his finger is reduced, he should of lowered his bridge saddle screws by at least half a turn at the very least....
He played hard, so high action was appropriate for his style
That drummer didn't fit the band. No offense surely he's a great drummer in another style but he just doesn't have it in the pocket.
