I used Cernit champagne for burger's bread and fries. But now I create a new way for making fries. I mixed 60% Cernit champagne + 40% Cernit translucent + a tiny bit of any mustard color (clay or soft pastel). This mix looks more realistic after backing.
Possibly because they are usually made in cane form so will have been done long along cured/baked and then cut up when needed, there are loads of tutorials on fruit and veg food canes to try out x
