- New record lap on the Nordschleife: Mercedes-AMG ONE is fastest production vehicle.
With 6:35.183 minutes, race driver Maro Engel sets the new best time on the 20.8-kilometre circuit.
Maro Engel improves previous record for road-legal production cars by a remarkable eight seconds despite less than ideal track conditions.

The suspension tech on the AMG one is just witchcraft - no roll bars, all dampers. I wish Merc would build a proper road going V6 for a future car with this architecture.
Hard to believe this was once a formula 1 track

Very impressive, but after seeing this I am even more mind blown by the 919 Evo
919 dit it on a full dry track and also keep in mind the one amg is not using racing slick tires plus more a street legal vehicule.
@@bryancano7753 if you're implying in any way that this can beat the 919 evo with slicks and a bone dry track you're actually delusional.
Brilliant run by the One! A record for now...but Porsche will always set the benchmark at the 'Ring! Either in a race, track or street car. The all time current record held by the 919 beat a 30 year record held by Porsche as well! No disrespect to other brands, but put up or shut up.
@@max12345678904 no my whole point is how close the amg one car is to the 919 eventho one car is meant to follow street regulations and the other dont. Obviously the 919 is rocket setting a time close to an f1 car in spa.
919 Evo was a "No Limit" record version of a 919 race car! Absolutely not the same as a road-legal Hypercar on road legal tires!😏
To all who are complaining about slow shifting.
They purposly decided for single clutch gearbox, because it is ligther and smaller than double clutch gearbox AND mainly there is electric turbocharger, electromotors and clever tech and soft, which fills the gap during the shifting, so there is no power drop, so the end result is the same or even better as with double clutch gearbox.
So from the lap time perspective it is quicker/better solution.
What a lap! It was a little scary to watch with these conditions and leaves everywhere. What an impressive lap!
Congratulations!
Still crazy to think about the GT2RS MR being ‚only‘ 8 seconds slower (let it even be 13 under better circumstances for the AMG) despite being two classes below the AMG One. (hypercar vs sportscar, not even supercar per ‚definition‘).
This is also the first time, a Hypercar takes the record after the 918 spyder a almost decade ago.
I am Curious when Porsche is striking back with a 918 successor.
Exactly my thoughts. The GT2 MR is just a modified Beetle really. ;)
That 8 second different will probably change to a 12 if they do another run when it's dry...

Great lap considering the weight of the car, the slow gearbox and the less than ideal track conditions 👍I see big margin of improvement
That shift is horrible, almost gated manual like shift speed.
why the shifts are so slow?
@@stonecold91 Mercedes went for a more conventional gearbox, the car was taking too long to develop and getting too heavy, it is prove that it works so I don't blame them.

@@Aristocrafied yes forreal, but i think it's a choice, because electric continue to pull during shifting
@@Aristocrafied Might be that it's not totally sorted out but also the ONE has to use a single clutch gearbox as a necessity. A twin clutch is too heavy, doesn't fit the packaging right and, crucially, can't withstand the amount of torque and revs the engine can give
he wasn't holding back. He actually had to let off the gas in a few places so the battery would be at highest power possible for the final straight. If he didn't , then the car wouldn't reach its near top speed on the final straight thus losing time. Also it appears the track conditions were not ideal so this record could probably be brought down a few more seconds. Edit: source: mischa

Less that that on a good day with a dry track I reckon
trust in the car
I could possibly see 6m 15s-6m 25s on a perfectly dry track NO problem. Hell, I could see 6m 05s-6m 10s possible if he was able to go fully flat-out. Not saying those times are guaranteed but they are EXTREME possibilities and that is just insane to think about. Getting closer and closer to breaking the 6-minute barrier is just nuts to think about. When that happens, it would be a whole new ballgame. seeing who could be the first to go sub-5. The race is on now. Who will be the first? Only Father Time would have the answer.
