The history of the Czech people is a poignant one. I admire their fortitude in the face of adversity. Great that you made a video tribute to one of their cars, Chuck.
5:36 Tatra only started with the rear engined aerodynamic cars (the T77) in 1933. They made their first car in 1897, it's actually one of the oldest car manufacturers in the world.

I'm very happy when I see an original Tatra outside Europe. Perfect job...
Porsche was born in Czech Republic, or Kingdom of Bohemia as it was then known, in the village called Vratislavice, near the city of Liberec. With regards to VW design? For most part, the VW was actually designed by Hans Ledwinka ... an ex-chief draughtsman of Tatra, who at that time was employed by Porsche as consultant. Tatra has sued Porsche for breach of umpteen design patents in 1939, but shortly after filing the suit, Czech Republic {Bohemia & Moravia] were occupied ... by Germans.
is it wierd that im 18 and Im in love with 50s and 60s era cars? I bought one as a project all on my salary because I have such an obsession. subscribing
I was born in the wrong era, and country (hence we don't have much classic cars). But if Catholic Heaven exists, then I believe mine's gonna be a big garage with ALL cars from 1920-1990... But for now, I'm watching your series, you give me the pleasure of virtually riding a machine like that. THANK YOU
I believe bbc said that tatra 87 (one of previous models to this) was 1st aerodynamic production car in the world. Never new much about this, although my dad drove 603-3 model for 30 years and bought one used for him self for about $750. Geees, time goes by in hurry. Thanks for this hd video.
It's not as bad as people think, It's because of those taxes that have kept our economy afloat. Plus their are taxes for Insurance, Life Insurance, Medical, Dental, Retirement, Mortgage. There was this thing called the HST that in one year dropped our debt by 8 million. for a 12% tax on everything instead of a 14-7% on certain items. I was for the HST. But that got Voted out. The taxes really aren't that bad when you think about what they do. if you live within your means, its not a problem.
It sounds like a VW type 1. It would be interesting to look at the engine and see if it was a copy of Dr. Porsche's original design. Tatra is famous for their air-cooled V8 engines, I'm surprised to see an H4 boxer.
4:08 Double-clutching for the second-gear shift? Non-synchro or just worn? And can you imagine the slack in the column-shift bushings with a rear-engine?
It was an original Tatra 2.0L boxer engine. Tatra produced its first air coolled boxers in 1926. Then in 1930´s an 1940´s Tatra 57 has a boxer too. It was Porsche who copied some of Tatra´s ideas.

This was a very early streamlined car. Just about the same time, the Chrysler and DeSoto Airlfows were manufactured also, but they rapidly were redesigned. Meanwhile, this design was in use for decades. I believe the Tatra that came after this one was odd looking too, with 3 headlights.

@12valvepower1 Sorry for not replying. I can't remember the last time I saw a DKW around here. Aside from that I have been very busy editing some other stuff. Yikes! I've made tooo many commitments.
Tatra is the only company that sued Porsche and won, Ferdinand Porsche used Tatra patents and copied VW Beetle from tatra. Ferdinand Porsche worked with Tatra before that and used their plans. Also Jay Leno owns one tatra but older one.
Such a shame communism got in the way or we may have been able to buy Tatras in the west, and that old proud company may have still been making their unique cars
I'm sorry folks but that is one goofy lookin fucker.. Yeah yeah I know its kewl and all but it doesn't really float my boat. Yeah that's it. It looks like a freakin upside down boat!

Jay Leno has a lovely Tatra example in his collection.

That's the most futuristic looking car for early 50s
Tatra's were SO ahead of their time! Rear wheel driver, boxer layout-very fast!

Beautifully restored Tatra T600 "Tatraplan". Indeed artwork on the penultimate streamlined Czechoslovak Tatra models.
Had a chance to buy a Tatra here in Texas about 10 years ago. Wished I had. Great cars. Very nice piece Chuck.

That's why I enjoy putting this channel together!
yep i agree, america is a pretty cool country, i really wanna see it one day
My "heaven" would be the same, but wouldn't be limited by year. I would want a garage with every car ever built!
Very unusual car, I don't think I've ever seen one before.
It's the only that I have ever seen.
Great design!
Very unusual and quirky, but there is something charming about it....
It's cute and funky.
Beautiful, love it!
Thanks for all of your recent views and comments.
Well, thank you for all the great videos! They are very enjoyable.
This is so cool, I actually didn't even know there was a boxer-4 Tatra, thought they were all air-cooled V8's.
This car has quite a decent drag coefficient as for a pre-war era!
This is intersting... what i know of "Tatra" are large 8x8 Offroad trucks XD
Tatra's were so good that VW ripped off the 1930's T97 models.
and Porsche...
Un auto muy fino y bien construido casi todo hecho en aluminio
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are very welcome!

In fact, Porsche copied Tatra when he designed VW Beetle (and other his cars) ..
Especially Tatra 87 and 97.

I WANT this car.Fortuitement it's becoming more and more expensive, even in czech republic.

Curvy, rear-engined luxury saloon. Is this the inspiration behind the Porsche Panamera?

Along the same lines as a Beetle it looks like.
I have only see the v8 tatras; didnt they also make one with an engine also used in some helicopter?
a friend of mine went to canada and he said that there are taxes for everything
How about Laurin & Klement?

After WWII the suit was reinstated and settled out of court.
@subzero92MK I am interested in all cars as are most of my viewers. Hello Italy!
The VW Beetle from the 1930's was modelled off this Car. Copied actually.
Actually they are cousins sharing a Tatra grandparent.
you could call this a razor back body type
you can tell that its legit because of his accent.
Never realized the 600 had "suicide" front doors.
I wonder if Tucker copied this car
Maybe Tucker was influenced by Tatra but also look at Ferdinand Porsche.
Look a lot like a four doors beetle
I thought americans hated these cars, expecially cause they come from the east of europe
ŠKODOVKA JE SHIT ALE TATRA JE AUTO !!!
