And he knows that. He mentioned that he's good "out to 50 or 75 yards" one time, but he wouldn't stand a chance against a sniper with a scoped rifle. He was most certainly going for suppressive fire just to keep the shooter's head down

      Raylan's main service weapon is a Glock Model 22 (.40 Caliber S&W).
It's the middle ground between 9mm's high ammo capacity and .45 ACP's stopping power.
And .40 caliber glocks can shoot .357 Sig too with a simple barrel swap making them extra versatile.

Why is Raylan just shooting randomly, he knows it’s a sniper, he knows it’s a high power rifle, shooting randomly with a pistol in the hope of hitting something at least a 1/4 mile away is just amateurish

      Suppressive fire.

    • @BigMac8000
      @BigMac8000 Рік тому +5

It's not some super military grade sniper. This guy is likely an amateur taking pot shots. It takes real discipline to completely ignore fire like that. Even if logically a rifleman knows that someone firing a handgun doesn't have a prayer of hitting - the human tendency to wince and hide will mess up your aim. If you land a hit anywhere near that rifleman he'll jump. Even the sound has meaning.
Suppressing fire is far more effective than people realize, it's very difficult to ignore it and "stick your head out" against it. Even if that rifleman knows 100% that Raylan is too far it's hard to shoot through instinct. Part of you will always think, "maybe he DOES have a sight line" and make you wait it out.
This rifleman isn't likely a crazy military sniper, he's an amateur who is looking for an easy payday. Underline easy.
Meanwhile the guy has to decide which person to shoot and Raylan makes himself a target when he fires like that. A shooter might decide to shoot off his hand or catch him looking and waste rounds. He might get lucky and hit Raylan and he's taking that chance, but that's what police do. Try and get in the way.
We never really get to know those rifleman, it may have a surprisingly small round. Judging by the sound it's nothing special. If it was high power he'd try to shoot through the bus. This is likely a normal everyday rifle which has a long round, but not necessarily a big one.
The thing is you can't know, if the guy is a true sniper they're dead. It's over.
But then why did he miss in the beginning?
This guy is an amateur and Raylan is feeling him out. Given time there's a decent chance Raylan might even flush him out or the guy comes wandering up. In the end we see him running away briefly but he's not in exploration gear, he's just some guy with a hunting rifle.
Raylan knows this so he's fishing, had this guy waited there's a good chance they walked away. Meanwhile there is the fact that this guy might have a badly zero'd scope, or no scope at all, which would explain the misses. If he's fishing to get closer and you do *nothing* at all, he will get the jump on you.
Help is coming, Glocks have a lot of rounds.
People often don't get that a rifleman isn't always some military grade sniper, it's probably a buck hunter psychopath who's too broke to buy a real rifle setup. Just a weekender who happened to have the right information. That explains why he misses the first shot.
      It's *nerves*.
They aren't trained, Raylan knows even a half decent land, even a lucky shit within 5-10 feet will scare this guy off.
It's not that they're necessarily skiddish it's that they're smart enough to have brought a rifle but not smart enough to be taking pot shots at a safe range.
... if it gets hairy, that guy can walk away. No harm, no foul, no one will have gotten a look at him. The guy isn't suicidal he's opportunistic and fumbling.
This is how most people are. Even trained rifleman might show up drunk because killing people is not hard wired into our being. Psychopaths and Sociopaths have different problems but they wouldn't miss and wouldn't be bothering with this low-tier work.
This guy's from the Mexican side, he's likely desperate and opportunistic... and possibly completely alone. If you land anything near him he might just go, "nope, pushing my luck".
Raylan also sticking his head for a moment is dangerous, it is, but it's also a precious moment to make sure there aren't 5 guys crawling. You can't know until you look. He thinks it's a lone sniper but he might not be alone. A creeper with a handgun in this situation covered by an amateur rifleman is a death sentence.
You have to feel it out, be smart, and mitigate risk. You can't eliminate risk. So you suppress, you analyze and you pray... and you have very limited tools in this situation, but that Glock?
Holds a lot of rounds. Even if he's only got 1 extra magazine... that's probably around 30 rounds. Make sure your enemies at least think you aren't afraid of using them.
Only one way to do that.
