Fire nation: Chinese, Japanese, South East Asian with emerald island, and some Korean Air nomads: Chinese, Tibetan, and Indian. Earth kingdom: Chinese, Korean, and middle eastern. Kyoshi island: Purely Japanese Forgot this one: Sun warriors: Aztec and Maya Its been a while since I watched the show. I did my best :)
• • - Its interesting to see the historical contexts. the Fire Nation is based on early Japanese industrialization and the main part of the story of the Fire Nation is based on Japan's territorial expansion from 1931-1942. The lifestyle of the Air Nomads is based on Tibetan monks. The Earth Kingdom is based primarily on China (the Beifong clothing is based on Tang Dynasty fashion, Ba Sing Se is based on pre-Manchu fashion, while the farming village that Zuko visits and meets Song depicts the women wearing hanbok, traditional Korean clothing). The Earth Kingdom, particularly the capital, reflects the Chinese government landscape under Jinyiwei under the Ming Dynasty. And the water tribes are based on the Inuit tribes.
MrKockNoker - They aren't in the show. Mainly, the show reflects Japanese history (portrayed by the Fire Nation) in their industrialization and expansion from 1931-1942. The Earth Kingdom, particularly the capital of Ba Sing Se, reflect the governmental landscape leading up to the fall of the Ming Dynasty.
I always saw it like Water Tribe: Inuit, mongolian Fire Nation: Japanese Air Benders: Mix of various Asian religios culture Earth Kingdom: Chinese Sand benders: Middle Eastern Kyoshi island: Korean
Especially since they're making their own action movie. Honestly for people who are trying to make a movie their knowledge of film is pretty none existent.
Katara and Sokka are not black. The show is based on asian people and cultures. Their tribe and the northern water tribe are based on Inuit and Yupik people and culture.
Avatar was one of those series that I watched that really shaped me as a person. It was a beautiful show that held many powerful lessons about life itself. Many kids nowadays didn’t have the pleasure to grow up with this show, so if they mess up this live-action those kids will have no idea how powerful this show actually was. I didn’t want this, but I’m nervously appreciative of it. I have hope that they can do justice to the plot and characters.
Is joe the only one that doesn’t live under a rock, like no offense but a lot them seem like they don’t keep up what’s going on around them, like they live under a bubble or something which is a reality for a lot people these days 😬
@@JAM-ec5gm A live action series of a children's show isn't really what they want to care about though. They mostly care about what goes on in reality (But they are bad at that too but whatever).
lol yeah. If they use the official "Day of black sun" photo it would be more clear everyone is asain (beside katara and sokka who are inspired by Insut people and culture)
Why tho? It’s not like the original is getting replaced by this one. We’ll always have the original to go back and watch and know it’s amazing. Why not let the original creators try a live action one with Netflix’s resources. Besides if atla can survive m night’s version, it can survive anything.
For those who don't know Avatar, the characters in the picture they used are Sokka, Toph, Aang, Katara, and Zuko (from left to right). Sokka and Katara are siblings from a South Pole Tribe (Southern Water Tribe). They are clearly based off of inuits because of their dark skin, tools, food, and furnishings made from bone and animal hide, etc. Toph doesn't actually have blue eyes like Boze said. Toph is blind so they depict her with milky eyes. She is from the Earth kingdom which is based off of Chinese culture due to similarities in dress, architecture, caste system, even the sound of their words (the name of the capital is Ba Sing Se which kinda sounds Chinese). Aang, is very clearly a Tibetan Buddhist monk. He and his people live and train in temples from birth, their heads are shaved, they wear robes incredibly reminiscent of buddhist monk robes, they are taught to eat vegetarian and detatch themselves from worldly desire. Lastly, Zuko is from the Fire Nation. This one is a little harder to tell once you look beyond architecture (which is incredibly Chinese), but most will say it is a mixture of Chinese, Japanese, and other East Asian cultures. Again, architecture is very Chinese, they have words like Agni Kai which sound similar to East Asian languages, there is a large emphasis on family honor, etc.
Just to clarify a little 'Agni' from 'agni kai' is a sanskrit word so it is from a south asian language...though im not sure what kai stands for Edit: googled it...kai is apparently a japanese word for meeting
So those who are worried about the live series, i wouldn't be cause first. They have the same composer and writers coming back to this so it all with love. M Night Shamalamadingdong, clearly didn't understand the world and could not make it work. Also i'm surprised that they are even covering Avatar, if you haven't watched it i'd say its one of the great American Made Cartoons out there for sure. The world building, character development, music, and work in harmony to create great escapism entertainment; and only a few movies and series are able to accomplish this, let alone that it's a kid show; don't let that steer you away from a great show. Edit: i wrote above before they got to the section. So didn't even realize Joe read all the comics also, that' awesome. But i really recommend the show.
Depending who you ask I would rather they don't touch the gold they made with air bender. Kora was hot garbage to me so I just want the air bender to stay as good as it is. let's be real in this day of entertainment and remakes it can only go down from here on out.
I think it depends on time because the other problem the live action M. Night movie was time they tried to condense a year's worth of episodes into two hours and it did not go well because they didn't set up the story at all here at probably one hour on Netflix they might be able to do a better representation
Toph's eyes aren't blue at all. They're green like every earth nation citizen with a gray haze over them to show she's blind. The picture they used in this video was a really bad choice imo. Evidently some of the jk crew don't realize that other people besides those of African descent have dark brown skin. And I guess in order to be Asian they all have to have squinty eyes, somebody better tell every Japanese manga/anime artist. They all just need to watch the show bc I'm kind of tired of them giving out false info on things they know nothing about.
I'm pretty excited for the new Avatar. The original creators/composer are back, plus they can improve stuff not fully developed the first time around. - Aang/Katara chemistry - Make Ozai as compelling as some of the villains in Korra - More Dante Basco. Somehow. Make him the Cabbage Guy. - More solo character episodes. Sokka alone. Toph alone. Momo Alone. etc. - Book 3 pacing. Less killing time waiting for the eclipse. - Better Lion Turtle foreshadowing so it doesn't seem so out of the blue.
They have colored eyes because its a fantasy genre show. They do this alot in that genre. Another example is in the source material for game of thrones. The characters have eye colors that people dont have in the real world, but they decided not to do it for the show.
Avatar the Last Airbender is my all time favorite show! Amazing character development, GREAT story, Beautiful animations and Art Style, LOVE the music, everything about this show is just perfect in my opinion. A lot of people are very skeptical about the live action remake because they're afraid that it'll be horrible like the M Night Shyamalan movie where it takes 10 earthbenders to move one little rock and all the characters are either white or Indian.... BUT the creators of the show are the ones making this live action remake. So with that said, I'm not too worried about how the show will turn out. I just hope that the actors portray the characters correctly, that's my biggest concern.
Awesome another series for Netflix to ruin with their awful live action adaptations! But to be fair it's not only Netflix, lets not forget Dragon Ball Evolution as much as everyone wants to forget it ever existed. But it seems like they have learned their lesson by having the original people help work on it this time around. Not like Death Note.
Netflix funds the money they don't get involved in the process. If a live action is bad it's because of the directors and the team they hire. I'm giving it a chance because I love the series plus it's not going to ruin anything.
