The Hungry Ghost Festival, also known as Yu lan, falls on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. This year it happens on August 30, 2023, a date when tradition holds that the gates of hell open, allowing spirits to roam the world of the living. The Post invited Taoist shaman Andrew Kwan to explain six things you should not do to avoid the ghosts in our midst.

Even if you don't believe in ghosts these are kind of sensible or practical things to do.

I'm going to try all of these. Wish me luck!
And don't call Ghost Busters to the rescue once you encounter one. You asked for it🤪
@@shudoy9386 I got vacuum cleaner at home, so no worries!
Please tell me if you ded or not 🤣
RIP
Please let me know if you meet an Indian ghost!
Seems like a great day to watch the classic movie Rouge, starring Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui. Wouldn't mind hanging out with them! 🤣
Both are my favorite celebrities. Miss them so muchos.
thank for the info and now im going to do all of those. wish me luck
Thank you for the information.
It's 14th of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. On the 15th, most parties are almost over already 😅
you can’t wear black in midnight or else the ghost think you’re one of them and play with you..😮 you can’t swim in the lake or the ocean when your alone at night because the ghost will grab your feet under water. That is all I know because my grandma say that to me
I hope that people don't use modern crazy minds to discuss and humiliate the past.
Dont touch the food offering or candles on the sidewalks.
Interesting video 🙏 Stay safe
I could definitely see a spirit appearing to you when your sitting alone drinking in the corner of your office late at night😂.
actually ghosts are heaving feast all year long except on 7/15th they come out to witness how miserable they once were and remember to cherish their food
We Indonesian-Chinese descendants also celebrate the Hungry Ghost Festival here. Many still avoid taboos told by our elders, including me.
di indo namanya apa gan
As I am living in Jakarta, I don't see any prayer activities here. Which part of Indonesia are you refering to?
@@DanielHYNgperhaps a specific place only. I'm from the Riau Islands, and we did have the hungry ghost prayers done every 7 month lunar year
@bettawarriorbelieve what you want, we stayed on our beliefs and it's not a nonsense as we knew.
@bettawarrior perhaps you mistakes my reply. I wasn't even mentioning it's real to all people, especially in the West. Your beliefs and mine may be different, we believe in ours . And by "we", I mean the believers.
Happy Halloween in China
My Chinese MiL would set out food for the ancestors and it would take forever for dinner so I'd eat some of the DimSum, she'd tell me to stop and I'd say they told be to help myself.
Held wedding on Lunar 7th month
But ghosts are afraid of our body odor!
How can be chinese ghost so discipline only come out once a year while other races ghost can roam freely throughout entire year?
Interesting
Friends, please tell me: during the this time, do Grandfather #7 and Grandfather #8 do their ghost-capturing work ? (I am fascinated by the old lore 🙏📿)
Watching this while doing laundry. Interesting 🌚
Avoid walking the streets alone after 2AM IN mongkok. Lots of spirits there buddy.
Sound advice
Fear humans but not Ghost
Fear bad tempered hkers lol
Is this the festival where they call on spirits by using a bowl filled with water and small thin sticks?
Now that i remember there was one time i saw a random video on the internet. It was a footage of a CCTV camera that caught a laundry hanger with lot of wet clothes on moved by itself inside a family's yard during midnight. This can explain somehow.
Cantonese..
These are the old superstitious beliefs just like Haloween, Jungle Spirits, Talking to the Dead etc. Anyone caught any ghosts or spirits on camera yet? I always thought the 15 day of the Chinese 7th month of the Lunar Calendar was supposed to be the day to feed the hungry wandering ghosts or spirits who died who are believers in Taoism.
Hungry ghosts are the household enemy No.1 of superstitious Sri lankan aunties and grandmas. Dead relatives coming back as hungry ghosts is their daily nightmare fuel🤣
So just chill, stay at home and get bored.
Actually the festival last the whole month. It’s just that people tend to have the practice of burning the offerings on the 1st, 15 and last day of the month. I never believe in all these superstitious do’s and don’t as these souls are all our deceased ancestors, friends, neighbours etc so why do you need to fear them and why would they do harm to you? Just show respect and treat it as a ritual.
who let the ghosts out?
He just killed hk economy for that day.
Poor ghost
In other words.. Just like how we practice lock down during pandemic.. Lolz
If you haven't experienced the paranormal, then I feel sorry for you.
Parapsychology and the paranormal are simply currently unexplainable to those without intellectual imagination.
It’s low IQ that believes in this dribble.
We don't talk about them either 😂
Strangely no news coverage bout this when cov 19 roams wild.. Looks like the 'ghosts' also got RESTRICTION or stay at home.😑

this is such a hongkong Singapore taiwan thing lol (South China)... In mainland china, especially the more north u go, the less u hear about all these lol
oh.. too late then. we don't celebrate it nor do we know about all this stuff lol. we probably had/have 10+ ghosts following us by now.
Who would hang laundry at night ?
people who are to busy during the day. so some people get off work late, and are stuck in traffic.
I did last night when i was heading out to smoke
Too busy to work during the day, long commute, can only do chores at night, much more common than you think, but yeah, night is more taking laundry inside and ironing while hanging laundry is more of dawn routine
For a second I thought the thumbnail was transformers
👹👻
🙏✨🙏👌
I bet this guy watched many hk ghost movies.
Hey this sounds like an anime plot
Manga/webtoon plot
I hope that this is true for China only.
lol
Whether you believe in ghost or not… you are still poor… so stop complaining in the comment section of this video!!
😂😂😂
They're not real, just your imagination
Feel free to go out during the hungry ghost festival. I dare you😏
Even if it is, it is to remind us to be disciplined and to train obedience, like scaring children with taboos. Cutting fingernails during the night, leaping over pillow, stepping on books, swimming during the night, etc.
What not to do: Also do not claim Indian territory.
There is no ghost except , human is the only living ghost walking around the planet .
Exactly then and after
First view !
HNY 👻
Ahh hungry ghost day.. 5 things I do. Wear black. Beat small people (I usually named Xi Jin Peng) 😂, say hello to the air, break all rules.
There is no ghost, after life .
Live present life useful. our life is same as ant , goat , cow etc what happens after they die or killed nothing , same to us
So what happen to person conscious when they die?
@@SinarBaru-bp4jx nothing
@@SinarBaru-bp4jx Can you remember what happens to you when you are not dreaming during your sleep? Yeah, that's exactly when we die. We don't feel anything. Our consciousness shuts down. We were gone.

Hmmmm no wonder my parents told me. Oh well anyway i don't believe any of it. I just think its some superstition. Even though i am Chinese but i still don't believe much in these things. I didn't even know that 15 th of August was the Ghost haunted month.
Untill I watched this and many similar videos to this one on other other YT channels.
