Alrulz MCOC dude, it’s wind. maybe you’ve never seen that before. the sun’s uneven heating of the earth can cause large and fast gusts of air. these gusts are quicker in speed, typically, at higher elevations, i.e. hills and mountains.

Place the balls "on the mat on the top of the hill". As far I understand, as a person who learned English as a second language and has a purely logical bias, Richard did perfectly. He placed the balls on the mat that was on the top of the hill.
On the top of THAT hill, not just a hill

Right, if the task were purely about the hill, it could better have been "place the balls atop the hill on the yoga mat." Watching this, I was more surprised that the sneaky solution wasn't an intended "gotcha".
When doing taskmaster you should be carrying ductape at all times.
You should carry duct tape at all time in real life mate, can't know when you need it. What if a stranger asks you to help him/her carry three yoga balls up on the hill.
I usually carry gaffer tape wrapped around one of my pens.

I'm surprised Katherine didn't just ask those people to take the last ball up.
Maybe because of the wording of the task? It said 'place these three balls on the yoga mat'. If she had asked someone else to do it Greg or Alex might have argued that asking someone else to place them isn't the same as placing them.

@@junbh2 She would have still placed them there indirectly. If it weren't for her the balls would have never ended up on the yoga mat (doesn't matter if they were carried by her or not).

@@junbh2 Nah... all the task is needed is for the 3 inflated exercise ball to be place on top of the mat on that top of the hill as explained in beginning and 7:30. It doesn't matter who does it or not. The task doesn't pick the only specific person to do it. She only ask the person to stay on the mat is probably already hard since they need to go up to the hill. She need to lessen the burden for a random stranger to able to help. Less hassle more high chance on helping. Yea I know it's just 1 exercise ball but it's less hassle if you holding it or not right?

They had to be fully inflated at the end, as long as you re inflate them it would be allowed.

ky How? You dont have a pump and I doubt you could even do it by hand its not a beach ball. And it would take so much time having to inflate them you are probably better off not doing it
@@alexrsps141 You only have to deflate them just a bit to decrease their surface tension allowing you to grip two in one hand, the other can stay inflated. It would take no more than a couple dozen seconds or so to re inflate the small amount you let out.

I love this task so much. Jon, Joe and Doc being tortured. Katherine making friends and getting it done on the first go. Doc also discovering the power of friendship. Richard's moment of genius. And as the absolute cherry on top, a (non-visual) cameo by the lovely Susie Dent.

Tvmucho is pretty cheap or you can watch one hour a day for free and let's you watch as it comes out and it has some pre recorded episodes. Already in place

I immediately interpreted it that you could move the yoga matte. Right until Richard's go, I was flabbergasted at all the wasted effort everyone else was putting in.

another way would be to take up one ball and drape the mat over it to hold it down, maybe a rock on each end of the mat? then bring up two. Yeah movement speed was the deciding factor huh?

I think that rolling the 3 balls together up the hill would be faster than any other option, potentially even including bringing the mat down to the balls (because that is twice the distance)
I think you'd be wrong because if you try to roll three giant yoga balls up a hill at the same time you will lose at least one and have it roll down. They're just too big to be able to roll three at a time.
I think you could EASILY jog up the hill and sprint back down with a mat faster than inching three balls up a hill.

The "I liked it" response to the "insulting the taskmaster's assistant" thing is phenomenal haha. Like, that specific variety of "fuck you" I always read as playful and good humored, so I take it well. That's kinda how my friends and I act towards eachother, and it's _VERY_ funny to me when someone overhears some ironic banter but isn't in on the joke and reads it as genuine malice

I love semantics! Take the mat off the hill and place the balls on the mat now flat on the path. The requirement states the balls stationary on the matt, not necessarily on the hill.
My first thought was that the balls are just going to roll down the hill and they should just bring the mat down. I was so annoyed only one of the thought of it! And I thought Doc had thought of it when he mentioned the wind up there...

Katherine understands that she is on a TV show and therefore knows that bending the rules to beat a task as quickly as possible is not necessarily entertaining. It's her job to be entertaining so she respects the "spirit" of the task. She does something similar in the potato throwing task.
Why are people confused by the validity of Richard's interpretation?And my word, there are native speakers amongst them!
'On the hill' can be either a prepositional phrase (indicating position) or a relative clause (defining a noun). As a relative clause, it would most correctly be 'that/which/who is on the hill', but we often omit relative pronouns anyway (that, which, who etc.).
In 'Place the balls on the yoga mat (which/that is) on the hill', it can be understood as either a prepositional phrase or a relative clause.
1) The balls are on the yoga mat. Place them on the hill.
2) The yoga mat is on the hill. Place the balls on it. (relative clause)
3) The balls and the yoga mat have somehow been provided. Place the latter on the former whilst being on the hill.
All three are equally correct interpretations, but the first can be ruled out in this case because it contradicts observation. Nothing in the card makes either of the remaining two exclusively correct.
For Richard's interpretation to have been wrong, this task should have read:
'Take the balls up the hill and place them on the yoga mat (which is) there'.
Nowadays we have this series in Sweden too. It is great and very amusing. 🤗👍🤗

The guy who brought the yoga mat down from the hill DEFINITELY took the time to read the assignment. He was 100% right and if you leave the rules with an airplane hanger’s worth of “up to interpretation” you are begging for something like this.

" put the balls on top of the mat on top of that hill" to break it down "on the mat" is the first condition "on top of the hill" is the second. Put together I interpret it as up on the hill and on the mat. Had the phrase been "on the mat that is on top of the hill" the first condition remains the same but the second part "that is on top of the hill" this is now a description as to where the mat can be found. Not a requirement for where the mat must be when the balls are placed on it.
This is ofc just how I'd interpret it.

There was double sided sticky tape on the balls, didn't anyone notice it? Maybe they were supposed to stick all the three balls together in a triangle and take it to the top.
I jumped to ‘take the mat down the hill’ immediately, because it sounded like the laziest and easiest solution, and I’m so glad someone did it.
My instinct based on the title was to just deflate the balls so I was rather disappointed when I actually watched the video and heard the instructions lol

I agree with Richard. The task said "Place these three excersise balls on the yoga mat on the top of that hill". It counts. If the task said "Place the excersise balls on the top of the hill on the yoga mat", I would object. But it doesn't.

The phrase "mat at the top of the hill" was the location bound to the mat. That doesn't necessarily mean it cant be moved, just implying the mat at the top of the hill must be used, not some random yoga mat.
My first thought was "deflate the balls" and then the instructions said they needed to be inflated. Hope was obliterated right there.
If you wanted it on the hill, it should have been phrased "place the balls you see here on top of that hill on the yoga mat." Disconnecting the "top of the hill" part from the description of the yoga mat.
Jacket off, ball in jacket-zip up, drag ball up hill by jacket arm while carrying the other two under arms. Would have been faster since there wouldn't have been a return trip.
