Hm, comparing this version to the album version, these are my thoughts: I like the denser, heavier sound/style on this one, but I like the bass line and guitar solos on the album version. Both are great in their own ways, IMO.
this version is the original version, the one conceived by Taylor, the most famous (and for me more in the) it was rearranged by Fred, with a wonderful bass riff and May's guitars, any song of theirs, anyway it's wonderful .... God save the Queen!

A lot of people love to compare the two versions and say one is better than the other (which is fine, don't get me wrong), but I love both as much as each other with the heavier, punchier sound on this version (that is Roger to a tee) and the bass-line and guitar solos on Freddie's one. If I did have to have a preference though, it would probably be this one - but only by a whisker - for said heavier and punchier sound (probably why I Want It All is my favourite Queen song), even if I've heard Freddie's version more. That said, I do really love Brian's six-note guitar melody at 1:25, which Freddie's version lacks.
I doubt I will get an answer, but is there an extended version of this song? I feel as if the ending is forced. You can clearly hear the guitar playing way longer. Thanks!

Is it just me or is it a complete f***ing travesty that that amazing guitar riff/solo at the end of this version is cut off and lost in the fade out as the track ends? It should have gone on for at least a good fifteen to thirty seconds longer to let us hear that.
I came here after buying Hungarian Rhapsody and watching A Magic Year documentary, Freddie calls the original version Magic, this song was called Magic before it became A Kind Of Magic or that was the way Freddie called it?
I think "magic" was a non-official short name for the song. It is possible that the name and the song itself (A kind of Magic) originated from the Highlander movie, as did many other songs from "A kind of magic" Queen album.
Freddie's voice still amazes me after all these years. Queen is the best.
