Luke Martin i'm from indonesia and i never saw that snack before
Luke Martin hello from indonesia
Is everything you eat good-tasting? It seems that way.
Me as a dutch girl cried when you put the salt and peper on the kibbeling :o i never seen that before....
lol. Ik zat ook met verbazing te kijken... hahaha
And the lemon juice. Never done that.
Bente Kiss exactly! Mostly the kibbeling is already seasoned enough, like a bag of chips....and the lemon juice...not very common...
I literally went ''Stop, you're butchering the flavor!'' and then went to check if anyone else had commented on this or if I'm the odd one out. Kibbeling spices are a thing and if you put salt AND pepper AND lemon juice AND garlic sauce on the fish it'll just kill the flavor. It's also pretty unnecessary as kibbeling spices are savory enough on their own, so you don't need salt or pepper
But hey at least I know what I'm going to have for dinner tomorrow :'D
Agreed on the salt and, somewhat, the pepper. But the kibbeling spices or fish spice they tend to throw on it are really horrible.
Kibbeling needs nothing but a bit of sauce. (like Lekkerbek which is also very good, if you get real Cod that is)
You are really killing the Kibbeling! :) no salt pepper and lemon juice needed!!
As a dutch person i had to gringe when i saw you put pepper, salt and lemon juice on the kibbeling😂😂😂 and btw you eat those with your hands and use the saus as a dipping
Precies deze...
Bedoel je cringe of The Grinch?
yayabutok ik denk niet dat hij the grinch bedoeld
Sauce*
What was those for? Why was it placed on the table then?
By God I hope you don't think that is the music we Dutch people listen to😱😱😱😱
hahhahaha
@Just Overbeek All Day Every day
saskiapanter Haha, yes. I was very confused. What is this? Scottish? lol
@@evilpagan2342 Its Irish Banjo Music
Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Martin Garrix and the list goes on. I am from Holland but never heard this before...
You really missed a few essentials, kroket, bitterballen and drop. Even the McDonalds sells a McKroket.
prc diee
Bitterballen zijn goddelijk !!!
Haha vooral de drop inderdaad
Drop heb je ook in amerika hoor
Drop is da bomb!
I love all the many whimsical shapes it comes in. Engels drop is also interesting. The only one I don't like is salty drop.
I think you need to be born a Dutchie to appreciate that.
I AM Dutch and even I love to watch this video. So good and properly done. I like how you explain a little bit about the food and its heritage too.
I’m arriving in your country soon
Hope amsterdam opens up soon ..I visit Amsterdam once every year ..lovely city ..friendly people ..great vibes ..love Amsterdam ❤
You did some good research and picked out the true Durch foods! Fun to see you try foods from my country!
No, he didn’t!
When I was in N.A.T.O. stationed in Germany, I used to take the train to Amsterdam on weekends as it was the BEST place in the world to visit!!!!
Whoa the guy making the poffertjes is a MASTER! They look so tasty. Loved the look of all the food- especially the crispy codfish and the stroopwafels 😍😍😍😍 Great edit guys!! Cheers, Sheena
Thanks Sheena! Yes he was an expert! Amsterdam really had some delicious treats on offer:)
The crispy codfish is cald kibbeling and we thend to eat the fries with onions as well on top of the pinutsaus and mayonaise 😇
Almost all people who i have seen selling poffertjes are that proficient at making them.
@@RubyroxXxx Lol, liked for pinutsaus
omg how you eat the kibbeling😂😂 ya just gotta dip it thats greeeeeeeaaaaaaaat
The Fries with mayo and peanut (sateh) sauce is freely translated, "Fries of war". It hints to the dutch mayonaise sauce and the Indonesian sateh sauce. The Indonesian independance war in 1948 when they broke away from dutch colonial rule. We still love indonesian food and is a well traveled location by dutch tourists. If you ask any dutch person, they all have their own favourite sauce on their fries.
i am from Amsterdam, you have forgotten the space cake from the coffeeshops 😋😋and of corse the kroket and old amsterdam cheese
Niet van belang im also from Amsterdam, and they also forget to eat pussy at the wallen 😛😋
Echt he die zijn zo lekker
Can i get 1000 subs with no vid 😂😛😋
Going again in Jan, already so excited,
I❤️msterdam
Greetings from Germany and a happy new year
Thesodadrinkers 😛
Dude! You forgot the most populair one the frikandel
I lived in Amsterdam for 2 years and my absolute favourite was the Frikandels - still miss them!
The Netherlands also has so many varieties of milk products, yogurts, puddings, etc. I love "vla" - a liquid-ish (pours) vanilla or chocolate pudding that mixes with yogurt (and sometimes with muesli). Also, licorice candy is popular. The bread there is also so good (I'm not Dutch but have traveled there)
You missed out on kroket and the bami ball.delicious. get them out of the wall in febo
Just ask them inside to make one fresh for you with some bread and sauce..
And the eierbal too 😂
Not febo but smullers at the station
Febo s burgers are so good
ik ben. 15 en heb nog letterlijk nooit zon muur ding gezien
I hate how hungry you make me, but i cant stop watching.
hahah ahh sorry buddy, go grab a snack:)
woah thanks for the reply, my first comment on your channel but ive seen a bunch of your vids. love the taiwan food vids!
A wild Bob appeared! Didn't expect you here. 😂
BobSamurai hahahag same
Now im happy to be a dutch person (;
Iff you get good kibbeling you dont spoil it whit pepper, salt, lemon .
Flying Dutchman I think you eat it the way you like it.
No you dont tonda putting salt, pepper and lemon on kibbeling ruwns it lol.
Onzin, ik doe altijd peper en een beetje citroensap op mijn kibbeling.
Nonsense, I always use pepper and a little lemon on my kibbeling.
And I own a restaurant in Amsterdam.
If you don't know the custom and they put it on the table, people will use it because you assume the restaurant knows what they are doing. Personally I always taste first, Id also use my fingers but that maybe considered rude.
eveny119 idk about Dutch culture that much but the knife and fork is definitely a british thing. Holding pickled fish in your hand, opening your wide gob, feeding this long thing into your mouth, would be unheard of in Britain haha.
I admire that you find raw harings tasty at the first time and you just had such a big bite wow.....
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I hope to return to Amsterdam again. Beautiful place.
✌️ and blessings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Omg...I would so love a big plate of that deep fried cod right now. I've never had herring but that looked good also.
Oh yeah, that kibbling was awesome! thanks for watching Tina!
So... This music with the accordion is not Dutch but sounds more Irish. Food culture Amsterdam? :) Our country sure has more to offer than only in Amsterdam, the city is so crowded with tourists 24/7 that you actually don't get a real and good view. Even us Dutchies feel like tourists in Amsterdam....Our fries we eat with mayonnaise/ frietsaus which is more sweet than Belgian mayonnaise. The main combinations we eat are just with frietsaus, or 'oorlog' which is frietsaus with peanut sauce and raw onions, the other version is 'speciaal' which is frietsaus with curry and raw onions. The main main main snack you have not shown us is the Dutch 'kroket', you actually missed out on the most important snack our country has, next to the 'frikandel' :p
mayo and frietsaus are so different. I hate frietsaus, too sweet.
Miss C, the music in the beginning has a distinctive "Scandinavian" sound, but, here's the weird bit, it's actually Dutch as the traditional music from the Northern part of the country is essentially not that different from traditional Scandinavian (Spelman) music. Too, in the olden days, Scandinavian musicians (Spelmanna) travelled along with the cattle drovers down from Denmark and East Frisia, many stayed for the harvest, paid by means to spent the winter in barns with meals provided and in return they worked in the harvest, made music and did all sorts of work that needed doing during the cold and dark winter months. They would usually help out during lamming and then head back up north to return in the late summer, early autumn. This way of life ended only just before the first world war, back then there weren't really any restrictions as to traveling (except Germany, of course) and people could work where they could find it. A very hard life for sure, so I'm pretty certain the music was a well deserved and much beloved break from the daily drag.
Good comment! Good to know for foreigners about the fries: we (the Dutch) call it "patat" or "friet". The main difference is that north of the main rivers we say "patat", south of the main rivers we say "friet". Also, mayonaise is the traditional sauce.
I liked the music, it was not Dutch, but so what?
Nog nooit gehad, altijd met curry mayo en uitjes. Welke provincie?
Stumbled upon your Amsterdam food tour. Amazing content and editing!! subbed:)
You made a great video with excellent coments of the dutch food!
Have a nice trip .. stay healthy and take care of yourself. thank you for sharing with us ❣❣❣
Thank you so much :)
As a Dutch guy myself I love this video and I am sure that most of your viewers on this vid are Dutch edit: you missed tompoes
Jaaaa de tompouce heeft ie gwn gemist kan echt niet
I honestly love the comments of these videos, bc most are ppl who hail from the country being visited and give so much cool insight about their food culture that I'd never otherwise know---especially the CORRECT ways poor Luke should've eaten foods...like the Kibbeling he evidently ruined. lolol
Loved your video. We're going to Amsterdam next year and will definitely savour in your recommendations. Thank you!
Belgium guy here, if it was sweet mayonaise, it isnt belgium mayonaise. The ducth make a sweet variant of it called "frietsaus", we belgium dont use the sweet version
Frietsaus is not mayonaise. Mayonaise is minimal 80% fat. Frietsaus is 12% fat and 88% water
😐
Finally, a vlogger that tried poffertjes without nutella. Thumbs up for that
Poffertjes 😍😍😍 will always be one of my favorites... everyone ‘s comments on the Kibbeling 😂😂
Poffertjes (those tiny little pancakes) are the best!
Omg I live in the Netherlands and hearing you pronounce all the food is so funny. No offense, it happens a lot. I really liked seeing you eat dutch food. I'm originally taiwanese but on my passport it says Dutch since I'm adopted. Love your channel, love seeing all the different kinds of street food and now I want to visit all of the countries you've visited❤
hahah opps it was a little difficult to pronounce all those Dutch foods! We are off to Taiwan in only a few days! Very excited to be back!
Geniaal hoe je dat vertaald naar een simpele Engelse uitspraak haha !
Heh, I was laughing so hard at the pronunciation of stroopwafels. I'm 2nd generation Dutch-Canadian and unfortunately my mother never taught me to speak Dutch, but I know all the pronunciations for the food, because of course!
Also, Luke, if you go back make sure you have some saucijzenbroodje (sausage rolls)! It was my husbands favorite snack when we were over visiting family =)
Y Smetsers I though he pronounced it pretty good
The sauces you chose on your frietjes are my favorites. They are amazing together. Satehsauce is soooooo tasty
Very nice episode of Dutch Street Food. I love Kibbeling very much, without souce it's taste nicer imo. Great work as always, mate!
been to Amsterdam several times. All the street food is great! Fabe was smoked eel. Actually found mail order source in US. Good, but you need the street atmosphere to make it complete. Lekker!!!
love your european series, luke!
Thank you Shiela! It was a short series but I really enjoyed the food in Europe!
It looks so yummy i want some great video i love it amazing work Luke 👍👍👍👍👍👍❤
Thank you Ritsu! :)
Hello
Excellent video Luke and thank you. Liked and subscribed.
really good video. thank you.
Nooo dip the kibbeling😂🤦♀️
Going to Amsterdam in May/June for the first time: can’t wait!!!
Hello
Looks amazing🎉!
It looks delicious. Fantastic recipe. yummy
The herring is NOT pickled. It is raw salted herring. Pickled herring is also available but it is called rolmops. Tastes very different than raw. They eat it on the tail in The Hague. In Amsterdam it is more often cut into chunks and served with a toothpick. This Canuk's Dutch pronounciation is not too hot, but congrats on being adventurous and trying the herring. One thing missing that most foreigners are crazy about is croquets (tubular) or bitterballen (same content but ball shaped) served with Dutch coarse ground mustard.
Rolmops is pickled herring with a Pickle in it...
There is also normal pickled herring and it's called Sour herring (zure haring)
Zeg gwn haring
Love it, welcome to the Netherlands
Thank you :)
I enjoyed the video very much. You did a great job!
Enjoyed your video. I love pickle herring.
NOOO why would you *ever* push out the stroop in the waffle, dude that is gonna stick baaad...
One of my favorite food reviewer good job Luke martin... always craving to watch more of your videos
Hey Mark, thanks so much! We are in the process of posting more frequently so make sure you stay tuned because we have a lot more coming your way!
Ommggggggggggggggggg you actually replied... ^_^..........My day is complete
Thank you so much for sharing 😘❤️
Hi Luke - I had pom frits in Germany and I was hooked for life. Love your videos!
In the South-East of the Netherlands you can get Fries with ''zuur vlees'' wich is a kind of stewed meat! It's the best sauce you can have with Fries
So, it's the Dutch version of poutine if you just add cheese curds?
It’s nice seeing some non-Asian food once in a while
Im glad to hear that! We want to travel some more through Eastern Europe in the future as well!
Luke Martin good to know! Nice to see something different!
Agreed but Asian street food (or cuisine in general) has no match. They have the most flavors and variety
KillerTacos: That's what I was thinking!
Luke Martin we’re going to Western Europe, you got any videos on Paris or London?
yummy!! looks delicious! nice video!
Thank you very much!
Yep I'm trying all of these when I go to Amsterdam. The fried cod look especially good!
The fries are also very nice with some mayonaise and sambal sauce (the sambal is a little spicy and that combo is amazing)!
This is so funny to watch as a dutchie, but you haven’t seen half of our classics.
Excellent job thanks
Thanks lots for sharing. 💙
Hahahahaha lol the lemon water on the kibbeling is for cleaning your hands! 🤣
Jeff Outmans wtf are you talking about. That’s lemon juice.
Kkr dom

Really a great sharing Thanks friend stay connected
Good selection!
I lived there for a while I loved everything about the Netherlands the wee pancakes 🥞 have to be the best I’ve ever had love love love the Netherlands
Hello
Hello
Hey man, great videos. It didn't seem like you enjoyed the herring too much haha! Anyway, the trick is to always ask them to slice up the herring into quarters (that's why they give you 4 pickles), then simply put some onions on it, and pickle on top and eat it in one bite, it is a lot more delicious. I was just there a few months ago, great place!
nice video. thank you for sharing
I love Dutch Street food and bought herrings at the same stall as you did, and was served by the same lady.
Fries, mayo & curry with raw snall fresh onions! Friet Speciaal! ;-)
My favorite combination for chips is currysauce, fritessaus and chopped onions.
Mouth watering....miss our Dutch street food...
Amazing video 📹 😍😍😍😍😍😍
You forgot to try the Frikandel Speciaal
I like it💕💕💕💕
Thanks Eka!
Luke Martin your welcome💕
Luke, the haring (herring) you are eating is not pickled. You can buy pickled (=marinated) herring in pots in supermarkets. In Germany it is called Bismarck herring.
What you're having is indeed herring, preserved in salt. Even though it does not taste that salty.
My mouth was watering while watching your show
Have a great time luke
Thanks Sanjay!
It is marinated in the herings own gut acid and brine it was a way of preserving the fish in times when there still was no ice available !! Yes it sounds strange i know. I am Dutch and indeed it is the most known streedfood.nice video ;) !! Next time visit Groningen and go for the clubs at friday or saturday, one of the best city to party and Socialize!! :)
Roald van Dijk as a fellow Groninger, agreed.
+E Braam .laat Groningen niet in zijn hempie staan!! haha ;) Nice welke wijk?
Ohhh! This place us so.nice ..! , The poffertjes , the stroopwafels, de pannekoeken, de haring and the patat, are all so familiar to me.
My children live there, so I,ve been there often.
My country Surinam was a colony from Holland, but became independent in 1975.
Thsnks for sharing..love
Nice vid!
My brother lived in Amsterdam for about 3 years! And we were over there at least once a month for a weekend. The street food is very good. I actually didn’t like the herring but my brother loves it. Sweden loves the pickled herring too.
They do some lovely pastries/cakes, quite similar to doughnuts. Can’t remember the name but very yummy.
Am loving your travels by the way 😀
Thanks Carole! Amsterdam is an awesome place to visit:)
Carole Pearson you probably mean oliebollen... on markets and fairs they are usually sold from a huge stand (truck) called the “hollandse gebakkraam”. They are selling olliebollen, appelbeignets and all kinds of waffles😃 Hmmm mjammie
Nederland is klein maar lekker 😋
Klopt haha:-)
Ja topland als je er over nadenkt.
@@drewbase zijn we ook alleen zeiken we te veel en waar je ook komt iedereen kent nederland

Mayonaise, curry and union
I love food. I'm starving now!
I love food too :) Thanks for watching!
Looks lekker!!!
Great selection of street food
Adoraria um dia conhecer esse pais
Oh wow the Netherlands is so beautiful! Always wanted to go to Sweden and to Amsterdam, I have a friend that lives in the Netherlands and she Lao swears that those baby pancakes are addictive and to die for. All that food and the breads and pastries look fabulous. Great video as always, thank you very much.
The baby pancakes are called poffertjes
Oh they are so good! mini pancake heaven! I definitely think you should visit if you get a chance! Thanks for watching Angie!
i'm pretty sure that if you're a non dutchie amsterdam will be amazing, but i disliked it very much, it's way to crowded and most people are so rude. :/
FitAngie if you come here (Netherlands) and you wanna buy poffertjes (mini pancakes) buy them if there is a market going on ,same as the stroopwafels (they are the best in farmers villages not that thin as in this vid)
@Bennie Leip... a Goudse stroopwafel is supposed to be thin, you can get thicker ones but those aren't traditional Goudse. Having said that Rudi's stroopwafels (where he bought his) are considered among the best freshly made stroopwafels in the country and are made according to an old recipe.
My memories are all coming back to me and my mouth is watering. Many years ago in the 70's i spent alot of time
in the Netherlands. We ate alot of what they called frite met which was french fries with their mayonaisse which is
very different from ours it was yellow and i was obsessed. But my favourite was croquettes with mustard, boy did
i miss them when i came back to Canada. My parents were from there and it warms my heart seeing anything to
do with the Netherlands.
Looks so delicious
In my region of France we eat herring too, but marinated in cream with lots of onions and apples slices, that's a GREAT combination
oh man, that sounds delicious!
It is! Lots of good food and beverages (mostly alcoholic) in Alsace !
Congrats for your videos, you two are doing a amazing job :)
Here in Cologne we add slices of pickles to the apples and onions in the sauce. In addition freshly cooked jacket potatoes - a dream.
