Great vid! Thanks for the effort! Give me a good idea about what to expect when installing the tow bar. I'm totally surprised about the terrible manual :').... I played that part again.. it's hilarious :') And that's coming officially from VW, right? or is it second branded? I do wonder what to do with the Electric, I did hear most cars are prepared for the tow bars, so they already have the cables going to the back, so plug&play, so i'll be looking for those, and if not there, maybe that will be a bigger obstacle than installing the tow bar itself.

Thanks for watching pls read other comments as we talked about electrical part take your feed from drivers side rear light if youur plug and play theory does not work and cambus adapter if u need one 😆👍👍👍

Not yet I recorded it but not edited when you do elect the drivers side tail light switches to a fog light is a twin filament bulb so take power for side lights from rear passenger side. If you take light cluster out separate bulb bit and look at the metal printed bit on it then follow back from the middle terminal 👍
@@daddyfixit5188 thanks pal for the tips, I was supplied with a 7 pin connector with the tow bar with no instructions and nothings pre wired. I’m quite handy, but hearing stories of popping the ecu if wired up wrong puts me of so think its a job for the auto elec guys I suppose
If you have a newer van which has cambus think 2010 onwards maybe. It is doable I’m sure but hey some things are best left to the pros. Maybe if you arrange to take your van to see them without bumper and light under trims it would reduce cost. In that position I recon they could do it in less than 2 hours and U don’t have the headache. U might be able to find someone mobile then u will save time on cleaning out van or leaving it which always makes me nervous. 👍
@@daddyfixit5188 yeh from what I read it has the cambus, also have been told it’s easy to mess up the ecu if you get it wrong? Have been quoted 80 quid so not that bad👍Keep up the great vids
Where do the electrics run to? Did u get the universal kit?
Hi make sure your van does not run cambus if it is you need a relay the electrics cable should go to the right hand side. Drivers side.not the left as in vid sorry. Make a hole in the grommet where light fitting cable goes through and tie into the back lights cable in a spot where it can be tucked back in panel. Remove light cover so you can see the bulbs and there is one metal plate which runs to all bulbs that’s negative and all the positive pins can then be identified. Run both the rear lights from near side Then there is a separate cable for fog light on drivers side. Do this way because. The fog light is a twin element bulb when the fog lights are turned on the normal power is stopped and the brighter side of the bulb is then activated by another live. Which is one of the solid black with small stripe green or red on drivers side. If it’s not done this way the fog light on trailer board will come on with side lights. I got the universal electric kit. Which contained connector block and buzzer for indicators you will need additional x2 cables to run from one side to the other and spare pack of inline connection blocks to complete. Total job time is about 5 hours ish You may well do it faster 😀. I am doing a vid on electrics soon but have confidence it’s not hard but remember the fog light thing.

also man thanks for the Towbarsdirect ...awesome ....and also anyone out there the Towtrust Bar is designed so it doesn't need the extra bumper wedge .... as other reputable towbars do ! ....costing another 50 quid from VW.
why wouldn't Westfalia for example make a tow bar that fit the same space as the spacer its replacing -seems very strange to me !
Hi ruu there is a vid on way for electrics but it will b for non cambus waiting for daughter to edit and post it she will b back in a few weeks and will get it done then. If you can’t wait for then best way is to take back light s out and bulb cluster out look at the printed board electric metal bits you will see one is joined to all bulbs and touches outside of all bulbs the other one which goes from each bulb is positive. Follow them back to the lead you will have your positive feed. Run both tail lights from the left hand side !!! now on the right hand lowest bulb it’s a twin Filliment Same as a stop tail bulb this is the fog light and tail light when the fog is switched on the tail light is switched off that’s why both rear lights take from the left and fog light feed from the right don’t be scared make sure all joints are well done and all dangly cables are all taped up I put all wiring where possible and the beeper behind the big grommet underneath the light hope this helps. Oh yes get a helper to operate brake peddles and lights for identifying cables good luck daddy fixit
Yes I got uni kit at same time as tow bar came with buzzer you will need also an extra length of cable to go from one side of van to the other for fog light and extra scotch locks/cable connectors oh and a roll of black insulation tape to wrap all cables really well as it has to last and you don’t want problems with the lights. Just a little gem of info if brake light switch brakes your engine management light will come on and workshop will b shown on dash 😀
Please stop using a torque wrench as a normal wrench. Its a calibrated unit
