    I'm getting a few comments asking why I didn't speak into the end of the mic. This mic is very plosive heavy(mentioned in the video). You can hear hints of it when I say "pound for pound" around the :15 second mark. You can hear hints of it in other places throughout the video one really bad one in the wrap up, Keep in mind that this is WITH the mic turned off axis.
    I don't imagine most people want to listen to a 5+ minute review of me popping every 10 words, so to mitigate, I have a few options. Use a pop filter, move the mic further away(fifine recommends this mic be 1.5-4 inches from the mouth), or turn it off axis.
    This is an instance where I needed to PPPPPPPPick my PPPPPPPoison. So that's what I did.
    I've modified this mic with a higher quality foam screen inside the grill, which fixes the problem, but that is not how the microphone ships from the factory, and ruins the "what you hear is what you get" approach to the review.

      I appreciate your explanation. On the other hand, you could have just straight away trashed it for its poor plosive performance (hey, something you could've gone to town with by saying).

      I would buy this mic for it's look. If I have to put a windshield on it I can do the same with my Behringer 8500. For the camera, not big difference. From podcasting mic I expect good plisives rejection and good look. They could extend the capsule 1" further to reduce plosives. Watching you talking to the side of the mic, just put me off.

    Another great review ! Question, you were talking into the side of the microphone, but at 1:19 the capsule appears to be a top address capsule, was that for plosive reasons I assume?

    Just as a side comment, I have 3 SL40s setup where I do my weekly for QRAZ Radio, It simplifies my settings across the board. so far, I am very happy with them

      The SL40 is deep and boomy, so it will instantly give that "radio" sound! Here's a shoutout to QRAZ Radio! ua-cam.com/channels/n5R_wVipwfonJioni8LcHA.html

      @@LowDoughTech Completely agree. I've got a number of their microphones and currently testing out the M6 wireless microphone which i'm really liking.

    I absolutely love your videos...and I think you know that. I am SO confused about being able to see the whole end address portion of the mic. I am increasingly seeing more and more people talk into the side of a mic, and it just takes away SO much of the sound. Am I missing something besides going to extremes to avoid plosives?

    • @LowDoughTech
      @LowDoughTech  Рік тому

      That's exactly why. To reduce plosives. I think I saw on the Podcastage channel to talk "across" the top of a mic to reduce plosives, I tested it out, and it definitely works! Some people may have a better time with plosives, but not me. It could be my mic technique, or shape of my mouth...who knows? I just know I've practiced, practiced, and practiced and my voice is still extremely poppy with plosives.

      @@LowDoughTech He does talk across the FRONT though, not from behind. You are talking outside of the cardioid pattern and the sound is not THE sound that should come from that mic. When the viewer can see the whole front "end address" portion of the mic, then your voice is not entering the right spot on the mic. Your voice is essentially bouncing off the metal on the side, and then creeping into the caspule. Now I am officially one of THOSE asshole commenters lol. I like you and your videos too much to not share my thoughts 🤷

      @@LowDoughTech nooooooo, heck that's what I enjoy the most! I think maybe you just took Bandrews 45 degree angle method and cranked it to 110 lol

      @@ObscureTech if I've done the ENTIRE video wrong about a given piece of tech, I have no business commenting on said tech. This is a wasted video.. I'm not an expert, I'm just some guy who dabbles, but the average drive by viewer doesn't know that. They expect me to know what I'm talking about, and this makes me look foolish. As soon as I got the second mic, I added better foam to the inside of the grille and that solves the problem, but I couldn't review the modified mic, that would be dishonest. I also didn't want to put out a video that peaked with plosives every 10 words, so I chose what I chose to get the video out.
      Two other people jumped immediately to the comments and when I tried to explain to them why I made the choice that I made, it immediately turned into insults from internet strangers, which, I don't have the time for, so they've been blocked, which I hate to do, but I work 70 hours a week outside of UA-cam and bickering with strangers on the internet over something that is just a hobby for me isn't what I signed up for.
      However, everyone is clearly right on this issue, so I'll not mislead anyone into thinking I know what I'm doing. I have one more mic review that I'm obligated to do, and after that, I'll stay away from audio equipment all together.
