- Black forest cake is the first cake that I ever ate as a child, so it's definitely close to my heart! This cake forest started off as 7.5lbs of my Ultimate Chocolate cake, soaked in cherry Simple Syrup and stacked together with ganache, chocolate, and plain buttercream, layered with cherry jam and fresh cherries. Hi Yolanda! As you know, the Black Forest cake originated in Germany and I work at a traditional bakery in Northern Germany (not very close to the Black Forest, but i‘d still call our cake pretty authentic). We actually have a very similar technique with piping rings of whipped cream, a cooked cherry filling and chocolate whipped cream (which is not the same as ganache, it‘s melted chocolate that’s folded into chilled whipped cream)! We use chocolate sponge cakes and soak them with kirsch (it‘s Kirschwasser in Germany, Kirsche = Cherry) and then we cover the cake with whipped cream and top it with chocolate shavings and fresh or canned cherries depending on the time of the year. So yeah I loved to see your take on this delicious classic. Greetings from Germany 😊

I just got back from Kualoa Ranch in Hawaii and this cake really reminded me of the rain forest there 😍
I love your chocolate swiss buttercream! I made your chocolate cake recipe in two 8 in layers with a vanilla butter cream fence. Then I spread chocolate buttercream AND mixed in some chocolate sprinkles. I spread vanilla on the outside but scrap the outside like a naked cake. And I made some buttercream succulents with crumbled cake bits on top and "Happy Birthday" and it was delicious ( Btw it was gluten free! )

In Germany this cake is called Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte -> Blackforest cherry cake
And the Schwarzwald is a place here, that's where the cake comes from, hence the name :3
