Couldn’t agree more, it really makes a person appreciate the wildlife and nature around them. Even more so why we need to protect it!

Good or bad influence? 😂 right on! Prepare the patience, the fly rod is a whole different ball game. Good luck and tight lines! 🎣

Love this video!! I have done this many times when a younger man, as taught to me by my father. I live in Maine and wild brook trout in rivers and streams are getting fewer, but I still do know a few places and will go this fall.

Thank you for sharing! Something I wish I had the opportunity to do more of with my father growing up. Exited for the fall trout season to start up again!
Thank you for the comment and for watching!
Tight lines and good luck at your trout holes!

Congrats on another successful outing.... from one self taught fly fisher to another, your doing lots of things right. I'll offer a couple things I learned over the years, you can try them or not and if you don't like it, no big deal.....a) for your hook set, go a little gentler....fly rod tips are softer/whippier so if you set like a spinning rod you actually pull the hook out and b) relax a little when you do hook up, you don't have to horse them in quick, patience..... fly fishing is an art, enjoy the tug .... plus when you get into some giants (and you will) you need to play them....only friendly suggestions, I'm not saying your doing it wrong, just a couple things that worked for me....taut lines....I can't wait until you try the next step in this addiction, tying your own flies, lol

Thanks for the comment, we always appreciate the friendly constructive tips!
I agree, this was brought to my attention a few days ago and I never realized it until some friends mentioned it hahaha. I am going to start to work on slowing things down. I just get too exited when I get a bite and just want to get it in the net before it hooks off lol.
I think I’m a ways off to tying flys still, but I would be open to trying it at some point.
Thank you for the thoughtful comment :)

Thanks for the videos. You're in my neck of the woods and I'd love to do a days fishing with you if you're ever back down this way again. I've not been to the waterfall so think I'll have to take a trip down there. Trying to figure out where you were on the Kennetcook River as I don't remember there being any areas which would be easy to wade across - if you're OK with giving a tip or the nearest road I would appreciate it. Tight lines and keep up the great work please

Hey thank you for watching! I think I happened to be on the river during a period of low water level, was pretty shallow on some of the big bends.
As to where, I was between Stanley and Clarksville. Southwest of Kennectcook :)
      Good luck and have fun!

Would have been nice to see what you use for bait for strippers. I have never fished for them.

I was using shrimp that day. Seems to work well for the most part in my experience. Tommy cod is a good bait, by product of the shrimp. I’ve heard the best bait for strippers is mackerel!

Hey kyle you do much fly fish for brookies around Colchester im looking to get into it what weight would you recommend for smaller fish ?

    • @TheCastAroundCrew
      @TheCastAroundCrew  7 місяців тому +1

I’m not an expert and only started fly fishing this season but from my experiences so far you don’t need anything crazy small.
I use an 8ft6 7-8 weight fly line. I find it is a good all round size rod, line weight and the casting feel is very receptive, very versatile for the wide range of rivers around Nova Scotia. But everyone will have their preference.
I find the important part is the right leader line selection, this is what I feel has more of an affect on the fish you plan on catching. The smaller the fish the smaller the leader and vice versa. I currently use 5lb test chameleon leader, but any 5 pound leader should work for majority of the fish you catch. But you never know if a monster is hiding around the corner.
Finally, practice some different casts to take advantage in those close quarter areas of a river, roll casts are very effective I’ve learned recently.
Sorry if this was long but hoping it was helpful!
Thank you for watching. Tight line! 🎣
