I love BMW X5 G05 - I had F15 30D, which i swapped for G05 30D (286bhp). Then i got attracted by my childhood dream (911 991.2 C4S), so i sold G05 and bought 911. After having X5's for 4.5 years 911 was totally not comfortable for daily driver and i swapped for Macan S. I'm in Macan S last two months. Like the look if and power (385bhp) it but everything else is worse comparing to X5. I've Already reserved brand new X5 30D with better specs (M Sport Pack Pro, Tech Pack Pro Plus, Comfort Pack with merino leather, Pano Roof, Crafted Clarity controls, and pretty much no deletions aside of touch function of iDrive controller and soft close) and selling Macan. To all of you who considering swapping X5 for Porsche DON'T DO IT - YOU WILL REGRET IT. X5 is such a nice car, fells excellent to drive, I tested it in extreme winter condition in alps - X-Drive was amazing - kept me well on fuella pass full of snow (a mountain passage in Davos) , technology amazing, comfort amazing fuel economy very good.. One thing you want to consider - trouble of getting 22inch winter tyres (i used 22 without BMW homologation) Joe - question to you - I am biased by some users to get a 40D instead of 30D - what are your thoughts about it? Whats the fuel economy difference (i have been getting approx 30MPG with 30D which was excellent for such a big, comfy car)
Hi Joe! First time viewer from the U.S. here, and I want to say I thoroughly enjoyed your review. I have to confess to a bit of bias, however, as I recently took delivery of a 2019 X5 40i. I’m fortunate to have lived long enough to have owned a number of nice cars. But so far the X5 is my absolute favorite. Keep up the great work, and Happy New Year!
The only SUVs I've driven are the Vxl Frontera 2.2 CDTI&SEAT Ateca 2.0TDI FR Sport. I've been in mk2&mk3 Land Rover Discovery's. I'd love a used BMW X1, X3,X5 or X6.
I'm not quite sure why he kept harping on about a wheel coming off the ground on the cross-axle humps. That is actually what you don't want when offroading. Wheels in the air don't have much traction. But great video. Got a good feel for the car. Will never buy it, but might come across it as a rental sometime.
Great vid Joe. Somehow I hadn't seen this before I handed over my money to Tony for my X3 30d. Was already happy, but thanks for validating my choice on the engine (in the same way as you did on my manual choice on the M135i. Your X3 M40i one was the reason I was chatting to Tony about an X3). Really good point on the petrol V8 sound. I might be mis-remembering but reminds me a lot of the sound from my dad's Mk1 Range Rover. Albeit about 4 x as fast and 4 x more fuel efficient. Love the fact that it also does 0-60 in the same time as an early 1980s Lambo Countach as well. That should be fast enough to cart the family about, surely?!
I’ve heard drivers report that, real World, the 50d is lighter on juice than the 30d. Would be nice to know accurate figures than just assume the 50d’s heavier?
Hi joe Merry Christmas and thank you for all your great work. You’ve entertained me all year with excellent content. If fact me and group of friends will be off to Scotland in 2019 to do the North Coast 500 as a result of your video. Now this is the gentlest of criticism’s. I think sometimes you can be a little too positive about whatever your driving. Now I appreciate that driving around in the latest 100k car there’s not going to be many bad bits that you can point out. I also appreciate that if you consistently unfairly slate the manufacturers products then access to these sort of events will quickly dry up. However, I would like to see you be I little more ‘focused’ if that’s the right word on the things you don’t like about a car or where you think it should have been better. Just wanted to mention that and let you know I’m subscribed to a number of like minded channels and your the best buddy!! Keep it going for 2019.
Great video Joe. Been a subscriber for years and love your content. I’m looking for my next SUV and I know I spoke to you on Instagram regarding the X3 M40D but really thinking about the X5 now. The M50D will be crazy money so think the 30D would be an awesome compromise. 👍🏻
Great review as always. I don’t ever consider SUV’s because I prefer fun cars but this review has me rethinking it. BTW what tires were on the M50D? Merry Christmas!
Dear Joe, Can you tell me why do you use traction control off in everey situation? I undertand it in sport mode, but why in comfort or eco? Thank you! M850i owner
Detest the overtly "bugs Bunny" front end styling and non descript back end... My current X5 40d will shortly be replaced by a new Cayenne.. not the last word in styling, but its road manners and 4x4 system crucify the Beemer. Sorry.. apart from this particular car, great videos!
Great video! Would love to see you review a F30 335d X drive. Not many reviews at all and considering its now a discontinued engine, makes it even more interesting! Keep doing your thing mate
Sounds good to me you can see out of the front and the sides, amazing, not only good in that weather Joe handy in all situations on the road me thinks, outer styling not to my taste, prefer the new VW ,which looks fantastic but you being a Beemer man would probably disagree, 27 MPG is crap my 2018 Cayenne averages 32MPG knocking about. question are you on the payroll of BMW? Cheers
Hi Joe, I know may find this petty, but saying that BMW is the first luxury SUV, is wrong the first Luxury SUV is Range Rover, any how loved your video
Nice review Joe! You made me buy an Alpina D3, and watching this I feel tempted to buy an X5 30d. Think I need to unsubscribe to your channel lol. Merry Christmas from Belgium!
hi joe , i have an e39 520i Tu engine , i am from chad , i was trying to buy a mass air flow sensor with rectangular plug ! but i still don't find a used parts dealer ! if you got one who sell used e39 part for no so expensive i will appreciate , thanks
Interesting comments on 3.0D v 50D. I normally try to buy the biggest most powerful engine I can. I recently drove a new 530D and a current M5. Less than a year old the price differential between these two cars is over £30,000 and I have to be honest with myself and say that for 90% of the time the 530D probably performed just as well, if not better than the M5. I'm still torn between them but that extra £30K is feeling like just too much.
@@fazer12779 To be fair, the G31 5 series touring is longer than X5. On other side, X5 is wider than 5series, and obviously taller and heavier. What got me hooked into X3 over 5series (because that is where the real comparison is, due to similar 60k price) is ease of access for getting kids into the child seats and getting all the shit in/out boot. I'm also on a taller side, so no more slouching to get into a car.
True, but SUVs or SAVs look good and a lot of people prefer them instead of an estate car. I don't think it's about the space anymore, it's all about the cool factor.
SUV always will be top heavy.. but then are they designed to be driven fast.. but "S" = Sport ... Maybe the name should be changed From SUV to CPV in "Comfort Practical Vehicle"... Etc etc..
I owned one of these recently, but I do not see the benefit of having the M50d version over the 30d M-Sport. The 4 turbos do not seem to pull more than the previous X5 50d. Drives better and is lighter than the previous X5 this replaces, but I actually got rid of it only after 6 months. That is saying that perhaps this new X5 is not really that great and only improves on the previous X5 through being lighter and has little touches like the steering wheel is not the size of a horse cart wheel. I would recommend the 30d M-Sport as it now makes no sense to own the 50d version, none at all. I think it is now weaker than its competitors like Audi and dare I say it, for the first time, I would rather a Range Rover Sport over this new X5 50d. Astonishing that I would lower myself to a chav-mobile Range Rover over a BMW, but it is that stark. Nice review, but I think the new X5 is perhaps not as good as they make it out to be, not now the competitors probably have the edge over BMW X5. I had a go at you a while back, my apologies about that as it was completely unacceptable and arrogant of me to have been so rude to you. I recognize you from somewhere though, I kid you not, perhaps school. You live somewhere in Sussex or Surrey though. I recognize your face from somewhere for sure and it ain't UA-cam. When they bring out the M340i Xdrive Touring, now that is a car I think will be a major winner for BMW. I am sure you will get to review that and I will be watching that review as it is probably a car I would buy, just going on how good the previous 3-Series was. The new M340i has the same engine as the 540i, so it should be a brilliant vehicle and not have that 326BHP 340i engine which again I owned one on a Shadow Edition, but it seemed sumbersome and actually quite slow. The old 340i M-Sport felt heavy and was really juicy. Anyway, nice review, my apologies I had a go at you around 6 months ago. Keep up the good work Sir.
