Totally Dubwise Recordings are back - this time with a big selection of remixes across a track from 2020. And it shows the breadth and depth of the outfit's capabilities - as the remixes cover various genres really well.
The selection opens with the producer of the original track, Robbie Melody, giving us his VIP Mix. He's expanded on the original by including some additional/extended synths and samples, including back-spins, heavy reverb and engineering across Culture's vocal.
Then, the Subtifuge Remix takes Bag of Herb back to an Old Skool Jungle vibe. (audio link below)
Jamie Bostron brings Subtifuge's sound bang up to date with a remix that is more DnB than Jungle - and makes its intentions clear from the start. (audio link below)
Totally Dubwise end proceedings with a straight-up, 'Bag of Dub' version. It winds the BPM back to the original - but the similarities in terms of arrangement end there. Robbie Melody has honed in on the drum arrangement as a central theme - using plenty of tin drums, djembe and kette effects to create a sound that nods to Reggae's African roots. These are mashed up with more electric drum sounds, too - plus the inclusion of a vibraslap is glorious. The horns are still present, but like much of the other instrumentation heavy rhythmic reverb, decay and compression have been laced across them.
