Well Mini skirts (or any kind of skirt) are very "fattening." They are designed like hoop skirts. from the waist down and widen up at the thighs. I don't know how anyone would wear such a thing. Of course kilts are better designed because they are for men to wear.
Irony is how short these dresses were. That amount of leg showing would get you sent home from school these days, and yet this is what your grandmother and even her teachers wore all the time.
I like that Marcia sided with her brother and just laughed It off. She can be kinda self centered and maybe a bit atention seeking but she's not snobbish and uptight as those other girls.
It was kind of clear it was going that direction from the beginning. (It would also be weird for her to be interested in ceramics and also hate the volcano Peter worked on.) When the girls all came outside for the first moment, the ringleader instantly showed disdain for it, but Marcia didn't. After being accepted, when the leader discussed how they are exclusive and only accept the right kind of people, Marcia questioned what she meant, then got and earful of exposition, including saying that Marcia would only be allowed to date certain boys, and that she could not choose her own clothes. Marcia questioned that as well, "What I wear?" By the time the volcano exploded it was already clear she was heavily doubting her membership in the group. It's why she didn't give a caca when the leader scolded her for laughing and said she didn't belong. It is further buttressed by her end conversation with Mom. She wanted instant popularity, but in order to get it, she was going to have to completely lose herself in the process and basically become a plastic.

Today it's clear that being popular is extremely important to people, we're in the age of Likes, Shares and Retweets. Difficult to deny that animal instinct of being "accepted by the group".
I love how Marcia laughed and had a great amount of humor, and defended Peter, even after that Booster girl changed her mind about accepting her in her club. Marcia did not hesitate to be happy with herself.
Not only that, but some of the girls were smiling as the smoke starting coming out of his volcano. Those smiles disappeared as their leader complained about it. Geez!
She later said how all the girls so looked forward to doing the mud spraying scene. It was a chance for them to let loose and have fun, AND get paid to do it!
