What an amazing conversation. I've been a huge fan of the work of both of you guys since some time ago and I thought many times it would be great to see a chat between you two. This was for me the adult equivalent of a young kid fan of the power rangers and the ninja turtles watching that crossover episode when they both meet xD in terms of the excitement it made me feel while watching it and joyful surprise when I first saw it was going to take place. So many interesting🤔, deep and insightful points. I have to show this to my girlfriend. Btw, I don't know why but for some reason I find that recount of the apparition of God saying to Peter he doesn't exist hilarious 😂
Thanks Alan! I still remember you well from our time in the Exploring the Self course! Wow, times flies. At the same time it feels like a long time ago now, and I hope you are well on your path. I am glad you found this conversation helpful, and maybe also for your girlfriend! I know it has been a joy for me also to engage with Rollins personally, I think his work is a shining example of how we can bring philosophy and theology alive today. Much more to come and to look forward to!
Beautiful discusion, very pastoral! The distinction between community (positive identity) vs a communion (bound together by shared loss) was a particular great highlight, a great jumping off point for more thought. "Once you know the trick of dialectics you're in." Incredible haha. The intuition of contradiction was also a great point.
Thanks for your comment, George! I agree that this distinction between community (positive identity) and communion (bound together by shared loss) is a great one, and it seems to me to be pointing in the direction of your thinking and our exchange on sub stack re: identity and contradictory politics. Let's subvert the identitarian political landscape 😜
Thx so much. You give a broad-sweeping understanding of what Peter Rollins is on about. I have reached a point where I am starting to appreciate the ultimate unknowingness and uncertainty in life, away from religious or scientific fundamentalism. I do meditate daily. Any sense of orthodox godness is a blank wall and yet the search for presence, maybe in absence, is my journey.
Been a fan of Peter since 2018 and just discovered Cadell..wonderful discussion..thanks for this and wishing you both all the best..cheers from Montreal!
I remember it like it was yesterday when Evan handed me a copy of this “new book that just came out” called “Insurrection” by this gentleman named Peter Rollins, and I proceeded to devour the book in a sitting. I then found every book I could by Peter Rollins and watched every lecture and presentation I could find online. Peter Rollins was a massive influence on me and my thinking, and to see him in conversation with you, Cadell, makes me so happy that I don’t know how to put it into words. The discussion was fire the whole way through, utterly blazing.
😇thanks so much for this comment, Daniel. Reading the Orthodox Heretic was a fantastic treat, and having a chance to dive into its cracks with Peter was a joy, he is such a great spirit that I found myself with a smile on my face the entire time. Let's try to keep that fire blazing! Lots to work through this year!
1:14:11 great point Peter-a “crisis of literalism” emerging from our loss of ability to know implicit rules. Seems like a symptom of our digital age to me-the clean/hard binary nature of computation versus the contradictions and ambiguities inherent to organic systems.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciated and enjoyed this conversation. It was so incredibly rich and I’m going to return to this video often to mine it for all the gold it contains. A big thanks to you Cadell and to Peter for bringing so much value and light to the needed intersection of psychoanalysis theology and philosophy. Loved it✨✨✨✨
We need much more thinking at this intersection of psychoanalysis, theology and philosophy, and glad we could bring out the importance of those dynamics here. Happy future gold mining! And always appreciate the presence you bring to these philosophy spaces!

Great stuff Peter, and I’m also glad you were able to move back home - hope it goes well for you! 👊☘️❤️🔥
