Jake was the undisputed ambassador to skateboarding. We don't get too many of those in our lifetime so I really hope someone can step up and keep the dream alive. Thrasher got me back into skating at 34. Never stop hopping fences
I remember over 30 years ago on the Mississippi coast where I used to live, this one guy had built a vert ramp in his back yard, think it was 24 ft wide. My first experience ever skating something that big before, about 3 months after I started going over there every weekend, that particular day, just out of the blue, Omar Hassan shows up and was doing over head-high madonnas where the foot he drops down was above my head, smack his tail on the way in, and first time I ever saw anyone live do a 540. I think he stopped by because he was on his way to Florida(most likely) for a competition. I was in complete awe at just how good he was while watching him skate It was definitely bragging rights for awhile after that day to say I had met him very briefly(all i ever said to him that day was that he ripped!). I was stoked to keep skating vert, even though after 4 months I could only do a couple of short grinds adn no airs, so yea, his random visit was inspiring!
First time a saw "STILL WATCHIN" anywhere was at Thrasher Death Match in Austin 2019 when we all found out he passed away. They tagged it on the ramp and the font stays the same to this day. So who ever tagged it started the phrase.
Miss him woke up the other day and was like i gotta watch Keg Killer and Beers Bowls Ad Barneys.some Bru Rays Alwayd inspired by Preston P stooooone and Jake Phelps Nevr forgetthese peoples.
