Whether by plane, train, or automobile, traveling with kids who are too young to entertain themselves is a challenge. Here's how to rise to the occasion.
Step 1: Give each child a carryall
Before the trip, give each child a backpack, tote bag, or plastic box to pack whatever games, toys, and books they want to bring along. If you’re flying, make sure everything meets airline standards.
Tip
If you travel a lot, put aside some special items that are just for trips. They’ll be more appealing than stuff your kids have access to all the time.
Step 2: Include travel-friendly items
Make sure to include plenty of travel-friendly items like crayons, paper, and coloring books; hand-held and magnetic games for older kids; and drawing and doodling toys.
Step 3: Hit the dollar store
Hit the dollar store for some cheap toys you can dole out as needed. Wrap each surprise item to make it more exciting for your child.
Step 4: Bring a DVD player
Consider buying or borrowing a portable DVD player, even if your car is equipped with one. (You’ll be able to use it on trains and planes and in hotel rooms, too.) Try to get one that has more than one jack for headphones, or get an inexpensive headphone splitter.
Tip
If you have an MP3 player that plays videos, consider downloading a kid movie or two-for unforeseen emergencies.
Step 5: Borrow books on tape
Borrow some children’s books on tape from the library.
Step 6: Bring music
Bring plenty of CDs if you’re driving-especially stuff the kids like to sing along to.
Step 7: Pack snacks
Pack fun snacks and beverages. Mix several varieties of cereal together; make 'sushi' out of Rice Krispy treats wrapped in fruit rolls; make trail mix with your kids’ favorite dried fruits and nuts. The food should be safe-nothing that could spoil or pose a choking hazard-and not too messy.
Tip
According to one survey, kids’ favorite car snacks are gum, lollipops, cookies, and chips, in that order.
Step 8: Take breaks
Take breaks. Often. At least every two hours. Look for playgrounds or rest stops with room for kids to run, jump rope, and throw a ball.
Tip
Cure the 'are-we-there-yets?' by giving older kids a map with the route highlighted. Ask them to help navigate or challenge them to figure out how many miles to the next town.
Step 9: Play car games
If you’re driving, play car games, like License Plate Bingo or 'I See.' Start a made-up story and have each child continue it. Basically, do whatever it takes to keep your little backseat drivers occupied until you truly are 'there yet.'
Did You Know?
Michigan was the first state to have roadside picnic tables. - Навчання та стиль

Not many people bring Portable DVD players. But they still bring DVD's for big trips. Before iPads and other stuff came along, I'd often ask if we were there yet. Now I use the Maps app on my iPad to follow the blue dot. I often save my iPad's battery because I may never know if we were to get something to eat or because I'd board the plane to go across the country or outside of the United States.
Man, I always have problems with road trips because I get motion sickness if I try to play any handheld games or read. Luckily, I can just listen to my iPod for most of the trip, and I usually last it out.
Every time I go on a road trip we play Slug Bug and bugs are EVERYWHERE and I get sent to the hospital. That's why every time we have to go somewhere I lock myself up.
Motion sickness is a problem
Watch HowCast's video called how to cure motion sickness
Step one: Let them borrow your phone with pocket wifi
BAM!!!
All I need:
Squishies
IPhone

Although this is Very outdated, if you don't have a good data plan, or good storage on your phone, it isn't outdated for those types of situations.
2:33 I am 10 and I don't need a map to navigate... I have been on every route from Rhode Island (where I live) to Williamsburg, VA, and from Rhode Island to McGhaysville, VA about 15 times each (I travel alot) and so I can navigate with no electronics, no map, no printed directions, but just from memory. I also know how to get us from one interstate to another (you can take either 95 + 287 or 95 all the way so I can get you from 287 onto 80 over to 95 easily without any directions... It's like I have a GPS built into my head XD
2:01 that kid's like "mommy what are you doing?"
So so true.
Gooo Michigan! Gotta love my home
Before yall comment about "all i need is my phone"
This video was released 13 years ago. Before a lot of you were even born.
Step 1: Get a Samsung Galaxy S6
Step 2:Install Pokemon GO
Step 3:Turn on mobile data/Buy pocket wifi
Step 4:Play and catch em' all.
Best : sleeping pouder :)
1. Spray the sleeping pouder and let them sleep the whole way
I tend to find my old laptop is a better bet for watching movies on long car rides. It's battery operated so the driver can use the 12 volt socket up front for charging a GPS, the display is bigger, the resolution is better and it has a hard drive to store movies on to reduce the DVDs cluttering the car, but still has an optical drive and appropriate driver software for watching DVDs.
my version for 13-17 year olds:
you will need:
carry-all = a cute bag (girls) a backpack (guys)
toys= ipod, ipad, iphone, itouch, cellphone
new books= Twlight/Harry Potter/How to Kill a Mocking Bird/Jane austin (whatever!)
CD's= Ke$ha, Avril Lavigne, Lady GaGa, Justin Bieber (what ever)
books on tape= which ever one you take
Actually I like the backpack and I'm just going to take my phone my ear plugs Wi-Fi and of course the amazing book is not on fire actually it's on my phone so technically I'm also bringing my phone
I will keep this in mind.

REPLY: Blacky159 ~The point of a road trip is to explore and enjoy your country. I'm From Canada and took a road trip from Toronto to Las Vegas and enjoyed every minute of it. Sure it took 2 and a half days to get to Vegas but you see so much along the way. Maybe YOU should go on a road trip and experiance it before you put it down.
Thats Rigth Brother! thats the way to do it! haha
Why is a portable DVD player & DVDS optional?

If you have a old iPad or tablet you can get a mount to iPad or tablet but you have to buy one of those mounts get games on it and movies on the iPad or tablet then mount your iPad or tablet to your mount boom there's your entertaining system. So that video was it was more efficient.

To make memories that your children will never forget, I'm glad my parents don't give us electronics and tell us to play and be quite don't get me wrong we take our phones and handheld things but we hardly use it!
Not anymore it's not, nowadays it's about documenting the *"memories",* unfortunately 😑🙄
