Kind of harsh of Ed Seymour with Elizabeth there, poor girl was just worried about her brother! Great acting by everyone here, thanks for posting Lili!
Tbh, this is the first series I have seen that the children recognize each other as siblings. Most tv series it portrays that one family member sees another family member as a threat to the throne and they seek to annihilate that family member to "protect" their crown.
Interesting. I think it's generally acknowledged that Elizabeth and Edward had a good relationship especially as children. Mary and Elizabeth was strained.
I think things were rather safe when their brother was alive. Since both girls had no right to the thrown with him alive. But most shows and movies skip over his short life to Marys rule or even after to Elizabeth's. So we don't get to see a time when they are not enemies.
All three had sad young lives. Mary had to see her mother cast aside, and herself declared a bastard. Once Henry separated Catalina and Mary she never saw her mother again. Elizabeth never knew her mother and was also declared a bastard. Then she had to deal with the Thomas Seymour situation and after Mary became queen she never could be sure if she would one day be take to the Tower and would never come out. Elizabeth and Mary’s relationship was always tense after Mary became queen. Mary was always kept suspicious that Elizabeth could be involved in a rebellion and the Catholic/Protestant issue was also a bone of contention. Elizabeth lived life on a tightrope until Mary died. Edward mother died several days after he was born and he was like a bone to his Seymour uncles and the other members of his Privy Council. Edward might be king, but he was pawn to those around him.
@@themermaidstale5008 When he was a child Henry laveshed gifts on Edward had a hall rebuilt, a varied diet- anything he wanted to eat, many gifts, napkins inlaid with gold fabric. And books with golden covers(idk the word) encrusted with sapphires, rubies, emeralds. His culterly was also gold and studded with gems. His sister Mary visited him often and gave him personal gifts. Henry was glad to have him and gave him the best. AAtleast he was happy before his sad end. Eddie Seymour is relishing his position of power. KEVI should definitely be apprised of his destination. EdwardVI’s Uncle Eddie is insufferable and his attitude does not bode well for him. The Seymour’s were not an important family in the scheme of things. They never developed any powerful alliances, rather alienated heads of families and made implacable enemies. They were catapulted into a milieu many degrees above their comprehension due to their sister Jane’s marriage of KHVIII and her having produced an heir for England.
Both Seymour brothers were eventually executed. Thomas for trying to kidnap Edward (among other things). Edward Seymour managed to alienate the entire council and was executed for treason.
At this point they weren't. Later on as the Dukes of Somerset they become the most royal branch of the English aristocracy as the royals started marrying foreigners.
Well, she never wanted to marry Henry VIII, she just accepted his proposal because he was the king and probably would have done awful things to her and her family had she refused.
I think originally they were on good terms with each other. It's just religion stood between him and Mary when he became king. And it stood between Mary and Elizabeth when Mary became queen. Sad.
@@Lily1127channel Aye, but we do see they loved each other deep down. Edward let Mary continue mass, but privately, instead of having her killed. Mary, even though suspicious of Elizabeth (probably due to outside forces) let her go as well when she could have had her killed too. I do believe Edward and Mary were suspicious of Elizabeth, or at least those around her, but I think they shared some love for each other.
Don't forget Edward was 9 when he became King and quickly became a pawn between his two Seymour Uncles, Edward and Thomas, as they vied for the Lord Protector role. That is the person who essentially became a defacto King for the minor Edward. Ultimately both Uncles were executed and the new Regent, John Dudley, had the succession laws changed by Edward when it became clear that Edward was going to die young and not produce an heir. He had Edward name Jane Grey, a 1st cousin once removed from Edward as his successor, who also happened to be his daughter-in-law, thus making his son a King.
They did get on due to Katherine Parr bringing them all together before thrir father died. It was only after Edward's death and Jane Grey's family trying to usurp the throne from Mary did Mary lock Elizabeth up "for her own good" and became distant.
@@ButtonsCaseyFrom what I have read, Edward was constantly admonishing Mary for her adherence to the Roman Church. Mary, for her part, was fond of Elizabeth. That lasted till Mary became Queen. Then she flipped England back to the Roman Church and suspected Elizabeth of trying to take her crown.
@@legionoffascist2014 Technically just Hapsburg as children took their father's name even if the mother was the Monarch. Phillip's father, Charles V, was just a Hapsburg, not a Trastámara-Haps;burg, despite inheriting the Spanish throne from his mother, Joanna, who ruled as a Trastámara.
@@janefelix3821 I guess that depends per monarchy or which Royal house more dominant to assert claim of inheritance. Russian monarchs who descended from the Romanovs refer to themselves as Romanov Holstein-Gotorp and the Habsburgs after Empress Maria Theresa were referred to as Habsburg-Lorraine.
Tbh they even say in ep 3 that they celebrate Elizabeth's 15th birthday, so they don't age her up in the series, they recognize her age. So I don't know why they didn't cast the actress according to that. Casting a 28-year-old actress, who doesn't look a day younger than 28, was a mistake imo, when at 28 Elizabeth had long been a ruling queen. All the other castings are so spot on, why fail with the main character of all people....
@@Ashbrash1998 Yeah, though they could have hired an actress aged 18. Bella Ramsey (Jane Grey in the series) was 18 when shooting the series but she convincingly played the little teenager Jane because she can easily look younger than 18. American high school dramas (Euphoria, etc) are full of 18+ content and they hire young 20ish looking actors to play them. Anyway, anyone younger than 28 would have been better than a 28-year-old actress to play a 14-year-old.
@@justanothergoogler6436 in real life, I don't think she did sleep with him, he was certainly trying to groom her but Catherine Parr sent her away when she realised things were starting to go too far. Yeah it's such a weird casting choice for Elizabeth's role. She is supposed to be a teenager at this time, and they even celebrate her 15th birthday in episode 15, and they say about 100 times "it's her 15th birthday!" 😄 And all along she is a 28-year-old woman who does not look a day younger than 28. I mean, I like the fact that there are still some actresses in the industry who does not use botox from age 20 constantly, but for this role it's mistcasting. I saw this actress in other productions and she is great, she could be a great Elizabeth in a movie about her early reign. But not about her teenage years... I especially don't understand this miscasting when you look at how accurate the casting of other characters is.
@@Lily1127channel yeah, they could have deep faked her or something, or just... have casted a different actress. there's plenty of late teens or twenty something year olds that could still somewhat pass for a fifteen year old.
Yeah, Bella Ramsey (Jane Grey in the series) was 18 when shooting this series, but I think she is someone who can look younger than that easily, so she can convince you that she is just a little teenager Jane Grey. She or someone like her would have been a good choice for Elizabeth. Over 18, so able to shoot whatever scenes legally, but with the right makeup she can pass as 13-14 convincingly. Then as the episodes progress, she can become 16, 18 aka the actress's real age, then with the right makeup she can become 20-22 as well. That would have been the ideal casting.
She doesn’t really look that old, and she sounds quite young. I mean they needed a redhead who could act and have still have some resemblance to Elizabeth, I can’t imagine they had a lot to choose from. It certain scenes she’s actually quite convincing.
"The Queen, she will be grieving"...Catherine Parr probably threw open a window and enjoyed the freedom and breeze.
