Will it run? - Jaguar XJ6

- After months of work its time to see if my 1975 Jaguar XJ6 will start and run. In this video I will perform some last minute checks and adjustments before the first start up.
The engine does sound a little noisy on camera but that is just my microphone being weird.

Watched all episodes. Excellent thorough work performed.
Well done Adam, sounds nice, no leaks. I'm following on behind you getting my 75 XJ6 engine running after 2 years of interior and brakes work. Only difference is my XJ6 engine is in a 69 XKE and because I'm in the USA I have Strombergs - 3 of them! One day I will put up a video about my classic and hope it is as well done as yours. Keep up the good work.
Nice job, you did a fantastic renew of the motor, the restart is a big victory !
Thank you so much Nicolas! I feel relieved that it runs well now
Excellent job on this beautiful car and you turned the engine bay into a work of art.
Congratulations, great to see your XJ6 back and purring nicely! Thanks also for showing us that sometimes there are a few bumps along the way, it's really great and encouraging to see a realistic account rather than one where all the issues are edited out!
I'm glad you showed the mistakes. We can learn from them. Was a little scared about the coolant leak. Some of the head bolts run right down into the coolant jacket wo when they don't seal its worrisome. Great video. Subbed.
sounds really good. Big milestone passed on this car!
Wow, great job! And this is the first of your videos where I got FOUR ads running in the course of the video, so I hope that money is coming your way!
Thank you! I hope it is too 😊
It's interesting how I think everyone sees different adds and different numbers of adds
Hi Adam! I'm looking at a 1979 Jaguar XJ6L 81k miles with slight body damage to its trunk that is going for $3,000 (hoping to talk him down to $2,500). Just watching these videos is giving the confidence to know what to look out for. Even something as simple as checking the exhaust pipes and seeing how much pressure comes is really helpful.
Hope the car is nice and that you'll be able to get it. Thanks for watching 😊
Congrats man, I can't wait to see it going down the road.
Thank you Simon!
Love your content man!
Thanks!
Great job and it's looking good too. Well done 👍
Thank you! It actually turned out better than I imagined 😊
I just got a 1978 Jaguar XJ6L not running since 1999 running again! Any videos on charging system issues or upgrades?
awesome !!! Congrats...
Really happy that there’s content on how to replace the headgasket on an xk engine. One question I have if you don’t mind answering is approximately how much did you end up spending on this job? I’d like to replace the headgasket and a valve on my xj6 because it runs on 5 for now
I will be making a video on the total cost of getting it back on the road but tye cost of just doing the head gasket and valves about 400-500 dollars in parts and fluids.
Living With A Classic that is very reasonable and way less then I was expecting. Thanks for replying this makes me want to do my cars head as soon as I get a chance.
Hi! Congrats! I’m really looking forward to the next episodes on this XJ6, inc your big grin once on the road at proper speed.
I understand the need for thin engine oil to start with, followed by 20-50 oil for a while, then a final oil change. Do you think this cleaning method is better than using an engine cleaner, type Forte or similar?
I'm looking forward to that too!
I feel that it's a safer method of cleaning the inside. If an engine is very dirty an engine cleaner can clog up the oil strainer and then your engine might starv for oil. Just my theory though 😊
Best thing to do is do away with the AED and fit a manual choke kit. SC/Limora sell them. so much better
can you provide more detail on installing a manual choke? I want to eliminate the AED in my '65 S type. Thanks.
Just bough a 90 xjs v12. Harnesses under hood have been damaged by pack rats. Any good idea as to where I can get new harnesses? Your videos have been helpful, keep up the content.
Hi, Thank you for a great series of videos. How does one get in touch with you for suggestions of what to see?
Hey Adam, thank you for all the great videos! How did you manage to make the AED function as it should in the end? I have a similar issue with my AED.
On mine the bi-metal that opens the main valve was staying closed. I bent it up a tiny bit and that was enough for it to work normally again. Then about 10 cold starts to set the mixture and idle correct again
@@LivingWithAClassic So, basically the airflow was compeletely cut off all the time? (I thought that your car shut off because of the mixture being too rich when the AED wasn't blanked off, but that wasn't the issue?). I think on my car everything stays open all the time. Although at some point in March it did seem to work fine for one or two times. The AED still puzzles me :-)
Adam, how did you get the hood/bonnet on aligned perfectly? I saw the alignment in your final vid. Tough to get it on! Thx!
I made some marks with a permanent marker before I took it off. It's pretty good now but needs to go over to the drivers side a few mm. I will do th final adjustment the next time I have a few friends over.
@@LivingWithAClassic thx Adam. A quick, how-to vid would be awesome! Appreciate the high quality series. Los Angeles.
👍
Hello, my oil pressure lamp lights up before starting, after the engine has started it goes off again immediately. Is that normal? A few weeks ago the light did not come on before the start as far as I can remember. thanks
The light should come on with ignition and go off shortly after starting the engine
👏👏👏👏👏 yaaay! well done. keep it coming :-D
