Sonic had a great transition into movies Repetitive jokes aside, this was a great video. These movies aren’t for me, but they can be fun when watching with friends. I’m just happy that these films didn’t end up with the original design. The redesign not only gave the community hope, but it also saved this series as a whole when it was at its lowest point. Very wholesome to see a new generation of fans growing up with this character.
The Sonic Movie is actually what got me INTO Sonic the Hedgehog to begin with. Before I saw that movie, I knew very little. I mean- I knew who Sonic was and I could name some of the characters like Tails, Knuckles, Shadow and Eggman and I knew generally what it was. But I never played any of the games and never really got into it. I saw the Sonic movie since my little brother and sister wanted to see it and I decided to go with them as a fun family movie. I thought the movie was good. Not great, but good. Entertaining. Then I watched it again. And again. And again. And again. Then it happened. I got into the lore, played a few of the games, started getting invested in characters, made an OC and then the second Sonic Movie came out and the rest is history…
I've been a Sonic fan ever since my toddler months, I enjoyed both of the previous Sonic movies, and I'm SOO hyped for the upcoming third one! I've planned to have it be the first movie in my life that I will watch in a theater twice instead of once!!!! I believe that one of the best things about that movie that has been revealed about it so far is that studio has woken up and understood that not having any vocal songs from the games be in the movies was a big stupid mistake, because Paramount was legally given the rights to the banger SA2 theme song Live & learn, (that info got officially confirmed by the Crush 40 lead singer/songwriter) and I have heard that an update was released to reveal that Paramount will very likely have the OG Crush 40 version of it in the Sonic 3 movie instead of any crazy sounding remix!
@@SBaby Yeah, I think that I also know when they will have it play. It's soo clear that there's nothing wrong with Paramount using the OG version, (they'd get a lot of fan respect for that choice instead of any fan criticism) and it's easy for anyone who knows the story plot of Sonic Adventure 2 to know what the perfect time in that movie to have that song be playing at is.

Great video man :)
Seems like Paramount are more centered on promoting Transformers One at this moment in time. Their next trailer should be Sonic movie 3. i mean i haven't seen any other trailers from them since comic con.
Sonic 3 is the only upcoming movie this year that Paramount has yet to show a trailer for. I'd probably put it close to the end of this month, or possibly early next month (first or second week).
@@CaptainF123 I can only say 'MAYBE' on that. But that is not a guarantee that it'll be there. We've already had two conventions that the trailer was presumably going to be at, and it didn't show up at either one. So my confidence in it premiering at a convention is definitely not very high.
As a writer, I can say that objectively, the movies are one of the best things to ever come out of the franchise. For the first time ever, I actually cared about Sonic's character, and not just what would happen to the world around him. You could argue that I liked SatAM, and there were some brief character moments with Sonic's uncle in that, but the title character doesn't really have too much in terms of an actual character arc (there's no difference between him at the end of the series and at the beginning). So with that show, it became more about the world around Sonic and not Sonic himself. I wanted to see his uncle rescued, I wanted to see Bunnie get cured of her condition, and I wanted to see the world get saved. But with Sonic himself, there was nothing I really wanted to see, because the show didn't present much there (it's not really the show's fault, that's just what they had to work with at the time). Sonic X, which the movies take alot of inspiration from, had the same problem. Sonic never goes through any kind of character development, and he really should have, especially given what happens in that series. It makes him come off as not really caring about what happens to the others, outside of how it affects him personally. But with the movies, Paramount got total freedom to craft their own story surrounding him. Sonic is the central character, and you see him go through a full character arc, from a brief backstory that sets up his internal conflict in the first movie, to him realizing that he doesn't have to run away, to the second movie where he finally learns what it means to be a hero. And now all of that is going to be applied to the situation in Sonic 3.
What about the games? I understand that he didn't have character arcs per say but his character was used to push the characters around him. Also I'd still say he has been an interesting and entertaining character in the games, excluding the 2010's but we don't talk about those.
@@CaptainF123 The problem isn't with the games themselves. It's that Sonic never has a real character arc. And when you are trying to tell an ongoing storyline over the course of many game entries, it's a basic fundamental aspect of good storytelling that the main character should grow along with the progression of the plot. And if you think Sonic in the games has had good characterization, then ask yourself this without referencing the plot of the games. What is the difference between the Sonic in Sonic Frontiers and the Sonic in Sonic Adventure 2? The issue with the games an why the movies are superior in this aspect is that Sonic in the games is largely nothing more than a punching bag for the plot. Sonic doesn't drive the story, but instead the story drives Sonic. Sonic never really pushes the characters around him. The other characters push one another and they are the ones that drive the story. You could literally replace Sonic with any fast character and you'd be able to tell the exact same story without changing a line of dialogue. This is why the movies absolutely blow the games out of the water on this, and why they've been so successful. Because you can't do that with them. Sonic for the first time in the franchise's history actually drives the plot. So because of this, he becomes irreplaceable when telling that story.
Sounds like u just did not like the character in general. You say you're a writer but nothing you described in the games is inherently bad. A story doesn't need to have a dynamic character to work, and it doesn't inherently make it more polished.
@@SBabyyou can have a compelling character that is static. Luffy and Naruto are great examples. There are many arcs that challenge their beliefs, but they never change. They grow through the people they help. Sonic is a static character, he's a symbol of freedom. He doesn't ever ever try to reach out his hand for one's redemption, he just accepts someone's help. Sonic's simple and yet complex: He's cocky, yet he gets embarrassed for being complimented Hates being closed and having his freedom taken away, yet sometimes he just wants to nap and not go anywhere He's Short tempered who doesn't like to listen, yet is always a good listener when someone's in need. If the character is to have a character growth it would have to be true to the character's ideals. I don't like movie sonic because he's essentially a different character. They don't try to actually challenge the character's ideals.
@@BlurBlizzard Naruto and Luffy aren't static characters though. Both of them have desires and fears. They change over the course of their respective series', especially Naruto who goes from being a Ninja in training to more of a mentor figure by the end of Boruto. Even Ash Ketchum had a desire and a fear. I'd almost argue that even Mario has these. Sonic on the other hand has never really changed once over the course of the franchise's history, outside of design changes and voice changes. We don't even know who his canonical parents are in the games. And we don't know what he wants. Sonic isn't really a compelling character. The stuff around him can be compelling (most of the time). But with Sonic, he's always the same, so we always know what we're going to get with him. Far from being compelling, Sonic is a one-track horse. Take Sonic out of this comfort zone and he'll basically do what Roy did in the latest episode of Pokemon Horizons. Roy in the latest episode was becoming a one-trach horse and got called out in a brutally honest way because of it. This is likely going to set him off on a character arc where he'll eventually have his 'AHA!' moment. With Sonic, because he doesn't have any internal conflict like that, he can't ever have that kind of moment that could truly make his character shine. Why do you think people wanted to play as the other characters in Frontiers? People aren't interested in Sonic, because he never changes. But the others do change and they do have character arcs, and they have their own 'AHA!' moments. This is why the movies have been so well received, because they bucked that trend and did something with his character that has been desperately needed for over 20 years. Sonic had internal conflict in the movies and he had his 'AHA!' moments in both movies (I can timestamp the exact second it happened in each one). And the people in charge of Sega need to learn from this, or step down and make room for younger people that WILL learn from this. Because if they can't understand this concept then they're nothing short of obsolete. If this doesn't happen, then once the movies end (and they will), Sega isn't going to retain that audience and they aren't going to retain that revenue.
Tbh if they ever introduced Amy, I could see her going to Rachel for advice on how to get Sonic’s attention. Having those two paired together would be hilarious.
Only thing that kinda kills the second movie for me is the inconsistent writing in terms of sonic's speed.
