- Soaking in Lava Hot Springs. Ever wanted to soak outside in a HOT SPRINGS on a cold winter day, if so, come join us. We spent a day at Lava Hot Springs in Idaho, USA, to soaking up that heat and minerals into our worn-out souls after a long Christmas/Wedding, just to relax.
FYI, Lava Hot Springs is located in the mountainous valley of the Portneuf River. The city is a popular resort location, noted for its numerous hot springs soaking pools. Lava Hot Springs Idaho is located about 2 hours north of Salt Lake City, Utah and 3 hours south of Yellowstone Park. Bubbling out of natural underground springs, the Lava Hot Springs are laden with minerals and odorless, promising a relaxing, healthy soak. If wild is more your style, take a thrilling inner tube run on the Portneuf River, which is fed by the local hot springs.

How do hot-springs work?
Hot springs are heated by geothermal heat-heat from the Earth's interior. In volcanic areas, water may come into contact with very hot rock heated by magma. Hot springs in active volcanic zones may produce super-heated water, so hot that immersion can result in injury or death

Lava Is Fantastic :3 one of my favorite places to go, I don't visit as much as I use to as a kid.
They use to allow people to basically have "All day Pass" to my knowledge, however after Covid that changed.
There are basically 3 flavors of main hot pool.
- Warm
- Hot
- REALLY ITS HOT.

I live up the road in Pocatello and have been to the public pools many times. They are pretty good. Some things to know. Avoid holidays and weekend evenings if you don't want huge crowds. Don't expect serenity, even on a slow day, as there is a major truck and train route (complete with loud whistles) literally yards away. BTW, beside these pools, there are other soaking opportunities in Lava Hot Springs.
