Still one of the best if not the best sounding V8 roadcars ever made. No other car comes close with how unique it is
F type (sv) r sounds way better
Absolute bollocks
Is this a joke?
😂😂
Aston Martin Vantage GT8
Car lost 10k value during this video.
The combination of that V8 engine with all its drama and soul, plus those 2 proper rear seats… it’s an absolute legend of a car in my world 👏 great video James
Totally agree
Love your Channel and your daughter's expressions!
@@23294virgo ah thanks! 🥹
This has been my dream car since it came out. I had the chance to rent one quite cheaply in Dubai last year. The interior was pretty beat up and not all buttons were working, but it didn't matter for one second. Putting the roof down and turning that engine on makes you forget all the flaws. It is simply an amazing feeling to drive it.
I think if I had one, I'd never get anything done, I'd be too busy staring at it all the time.
One of the most gorgeous looking cars of the past twenty years.....and it sounds heavenly too. So why doesn't the Almighty ever respond to my prayers for a lottery win?
Good review as always James, always on the lookout for them. We’ve had a few Facelift Sports in, and lots of MC Stradales, I’ve only sold one of the MC’s. I think as a daily they’re the pinnacle of the 13 year model range.
Every working model of this gorgeous car should be protected at all costs. A childhood favourite
You forgot to mention that it is a "National Treasure". 🙂
@Martin Guenther this goes without saying but worth adding
Great honest reviews on QP’s and GT’s. I’m very fortunate to have a trouble free Granturismo Sport (past 5 years) and a MC20 in the same stable. I just couldn’t let the GTS go (more sensible thing to do) as I couldn’t replace the Singing Sirens and the 4 seat practicality. The MC20 is stunning to look at, and stunningly fast (but all too quiet) and a bit like girlfriends! The younger MC20 is hot as hell but the more voluptuous GTS is willing to do things the MC20 just can’t compete with 😅 I expect the new V6 or Electric GTS will cause some to relook at the V8
I have S with MC Shift and love how theatrical it is at low speeds and even low throttle. I have not driven anything else like that. To get drama and nice noise from other performance cars you have to push them and it leads to aggressive driving. This one is trully special in this sense. There are better sounding cars. But there are none beating this one under calm driving enjoyment....well maybe there is one Alfa 8C spider....And always I sit in and drive its just about The engine and The gearbox everything else is just forgotten
One of my neighbours has one, and deliberately revs it when coming home. He's one of the most popular guys on the street. That sound is glorious.
One of the greatest soundtracks of any engine ever...
The best CAR Ive owned.. AND Ive owned over 50 cars. MaseratI Grandturismo is one of a kind. :)
The new one is insanely overpriced IMO. No one is paying $200k USD that has a below average 0-60 for its class, is MUCH worse sounding than the old one, worse looking, and the same interior as the $60k Grecale. It's a nice car in a vacuum, but not for $200k. The depreciation will be a disaster, it will be half price in 2 years like the Ghibli
One of the most underappreciated car in history I think. Unplug the exhaust valves and she'll really scream. Add an X pipe to that combo and it's over. And it ain't the fastest thing. But I eat scatpacks for daily with her, can match up with SRT's and Vettes just fine.
Best sounding Ferrarii V8 engine, timeless Pininfarina design
Love the old-school, retro exterior & interior design makes it a modern classic.
Not a Maserati fan but IMO the Gran Tourismo is the most beautifully designed car of the last 30 years. A work colleague of mine bought a 2016 last year, and everytime he is leaving for home, I follow him to the parking garage and listen to the thunder that car produces on start up!
I’m very proud of that I’m an owner of last Masearti GT MC. I bought the red MC on 2019 and still have it and drive it with happy. Whenever I hear the sound of this beautiful car, I just fall in very deep happiness!! I’m gonna have it forever!!
Real question. Does it break often? Is it reliable? I'm trying to treat myself with a Maserati GranTurismo or a Quattroporte. Should I?
@@fuko4066 In south korea, granturismo is called ‘Tank’ because it is really reliable.
@@날틀의취미공간 👍
@@날틀의취미공간 good!
I have a 2014 granturismo sport, sounds amazing and good handling.
We have a ton of these in Boca Raton Florida and my mother currently drives a Maserati levante SQ4 gransport. The brand gets a lot of flack understandably so but if you understand what you're buying, have a solid line to parts (Alpine performance here is the best and the cheapest) mechanic with common sense and enough of a budget to own a mid to upper level BMW, you'll be fine and have a lot of fun. Just for the love of God don't buy a Ghibli unless you plan on renting it out for Turo
I'd take a Ghibli Trofeo anyday...
Here in Europe this whole generation of Maser was even molested with a DIESEL!
@@alfisti93 that is a fair exception though I don't remember if they offer the tropheo here for the Ghibli. They offer it for the quattroporte and the levante
@@MrJjg123ish The Trofeo should be available in Ghibli form as well - at least the socal media guy "RonsRides" presented some examples in Florida.
And yes, the Trofeo is the only, truly dope Ghibli out there. I like my Masers sporting an intoxicating V8 with some nice Ferrari traits...
(When they charge for maintainance at Ferrari level, at least have an engine worthy of that.)
This one of the cars even I would not care how it drove the noise and the looks are enough to make me want it
Absolute gem of a vehicle. Truly dual personalities - best driven at 7/10ths. The length made it predictable in the wet. Miss mine dearly- in the US insurance rates are astronomical for these. Removed the X-pipe for a deeper rumble when in sport mode. Could have used just a wee-bit more power given it was an automatic (if manual offered would have been plenty though). Most interesting north of 3000rpm. The leather smell is intoxicating. Infotainment and electronics were completely ignored because of the driving pleasure.
Not as composed or shuttle like as an M8/S63 Coupe, lacked the execution of interior of Aston and Bentley, missed the raciness of a Ferrari, but she was a naughty 🇮🇹 and was forgiven for all of her “flaws” (character) while driven at 5000rpm
PS - it eats tires 😂😂
Thank you for mentioning insurance rates.......I was thinking of buying one, but my rates have already gone up with no accidents in decades and the last thing I need are more "astronomical" insurance premiums.
These are the ultimate heart vesrsus head argument. It's so deeply flawed, and potentially ruinously expensive to own, yet so gorgeous and charming you cannot help but want one. Then your head has a wobble and reminds you just what your income and savings numbers are😅
To put the sound up? Yes Sir, so I did. Music to my ears. I still think that every drop of fuel going into that engine is a blessing of god.
I've been eyeing these on the secondary market for a while. They don't make cars like this anymore, especially Maserati, this is their last good car. Would love to see a comprehensive buying guide, please make one!
bought my 2018 gt sport (just over 18k miles) end of July while on vacation in Florida. White on the exterior and the interior is black with the red stitching (same that I had on the ghibli I just got rid of as I needed to make space for the gt). If you can afford to buy the car and know you won’t regret it just do it man. I turned 24 in July and worked my ass off for the last 3 years to have paid for it in cash so i wouldn’t have to stress over anything.
Something I learned overtime as I’ve gotten older is that money will come and go. Time never comes back. If you can afford it treat yourself, don’t live with regrets. Do what makes you happy before you’re too old to enjoy it. It sounds corny but it’s true. Not sure if this helped you at all but I hope it did. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I’ll answer to the best of my abilities :)
A friend had a Maserati. The leather interior shrunk and pulled away. The dealer, the regional manager, and Maserati USA refused to take responsibility. At all. Didn’t even offer to split the cost which turned out to be $17,000.
Thanks J, can't go wrong with Maserati content! Great knowledge of this model to! 🙏🙏
Same as some others on here. A dream car of mine. Those looks, that character, that drama...one of the best looking cars ever IMO. I know it would keep me on my toes much like any fiery Italian, but thats also a big part of it's charm too.
Ran a GT-S for a couple years. The looks, sound, and comfort made this such a lovely GT. Still miss it. Nice work Jayeem!
The infotainment rebooting in Italian actually made me laugh out loud 😂 It doesn't want to speak English
It’s one of the most stunning cars ever made.
My dream car tbh.
Once again, thoroughly enjoyable and informative video. But full disclosure, I clicked the "Like" button for the M2 comment. 😄
I'll take that
From the bottom of my heart, i wanted to say a massive thankyou for reviewing this particular Gran Turismo one of the most powerful one before going out of production.❤❤
Love mine every chance I get I give it a boot full and listen to it sing...
Just saw one of these earlier today when i was in the Inner City of Frankfurt here in Germany, these sound even better in Person, hard to describe.
A bit later i saw a Ferrari SF90 in the Inner City as well and oh my God the Sounds of both of them are Worlds apart.
Kinda funny how a Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale sounds so much better than a Ferrari SF90
Hell, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT which i saw on the Autobahn on my way back sounded much better as well.
Prost & Cheers from Germany
You do know the SF90 is a hybrid?
@@tjk9263 Yes, that doesn't mean much.
Ever heard the Porsche 918 Spyder? Also a Hybrid, still sounds amazing
Two main reasons: the Ferrari engine has a turbo and a flat plane crank.
The turbo muffles/dampens the sounds. The crank removes the rumble and makes the engine sound more like an extra angry four cylinder engine.
@@rogerwennstrom6677 It's kinda like the Ferrari being Sam Smith and the Turismo being Tom jones
Because turbos kill the sound of cars. You'll see this to be true in coming time :)
Great review! This generation GT will really be missed. The new one just does not sound right and is too "fat"... I still think that the best sounding Maser GT is the GT Sport, and not the MC or MC Stradale that sounds slightly more metallic. MC shift is fabulous and better than the auto box.
One of the sexiest-looking cars ever built IMHO. High-maintenace queen she is... but she's pretty to look at!!
Everything is very expensive on this car, because it's 2 brands at the same time Maserati and Ferrari.
This is my dream car. I grew up wanting a 3200, and now I am looking at low cost, heavily depreciated GranTurismo's. Foolish, sure. But the heart wants, what it wants.
That rattle coming from the dash sounds a lot like the one in my QP, which comes from the cruise control selector ‘ring’ around the left wiper stalk. It’s hilariously loose and rattles around all the time… Italian build quality, but forgivable :)
Thanks for answering that question for me. I always wondered what that rattle was. It's not often it's just slight at some moments
I've daily driven one for 10 years, 95k currently and loved every mile.
Not sure if you'll get a notification for this reply, but here goes. What has your maintenance costs been after 10 years? Has it been running good? Any breakdowns?
I'm hoping you were lucky because I've read dozens of horror stories and it worries me. I wouldn't make it a daily driver though. It would be a sweet weekend car to take into the hills for the day.
I'm interested in getting a used one in the near future after I get myself a good-paying full time job.
@@P.W.R. Hey. I’ve heard the same from other owners but I’ve been very lucky. The only issue I had early on was my car went into limp mode and needed towing however it was only a filter. The dealer said it was likely lack of use, they don’t like not being driven. This was just after I bought it I think 2 years old and only 5k miles.
Since then and I’ll talk specialists rather than main dealer because dealers = deep pockets. Service every 2 years for most people, standard £800 major £1200 which isn’t bad. Anything extra you need that’s where you must be careful not to over stretch yourself. F1 clutch 2-3k, I didn’t want that. Tires are not cheap, discs and pads all round 2-3k, way way more from dealer.
Your local garage won’t be able to order a service kit from Maserati but there are places…..
Read up on variator issues. Maserati confirmed it doesn’t affect the engine but it’s shameful if you go to start your amazing V8 in front of a crowd and it sounds like a skeleton having a wank in a biscuit tin for a few seconds.
People take photos at traffic lights and they hear it before they see it.
You get nods from people driving 300k lambos, and people let you out from junctions. Tesla’s want to race you, so do M5 drivers. You have nothing to prove.
Do it, but not if you can’t raise some cash every now and again. You do need to keep up with the little niggles that can happen but it’s so rewarding.
“The others just travel”
This is the car I would buy instead of the E92 M3 if I didn't have to worry about other people existing. You can never go under the radar in this thing & I'd be worried about parking it anywhere. The M3 you can blend into traffic if needed & enjoy a V8 when you want.
The best Car Ive owned a 2015 Maserati Granturismo 👌👌👌
remembering my ghibli but this one sounds way better, music to my ears ;)
Forgotten?....Abandoned! .... have it 5-6 years in rainy area and these get rusty belly like wreckage of an ancient steam machine....Everything else is nearly great (except gboxes) and convertible version as summer cruiser is magnificant holiday company if you can bear running cost...BTW Interesting that Quattroporte doesn't rust so much.....So is it good full-fat GT?...No...it's just fine spaghetti muscle car...Love it or leave it....
Went to view/potentially buy one of these recently, came with some invoices and the running costs were like nothing else. Ended up with a F Type R instead
Paraphrasing Oliver Twist...
Please sir, can we have some more??!!
😀😀😀😀
The exhaust note is wanting for bass. It is, however, a very handsome machine.
I own both a Maserati GranTurismo 4.7L V8 (non-MC) and a Gen 1 Bentley Continental GT W12. These are great GT cars and are easily daily drivable. The Bentley gets better MPG. I get about 14.6 MPG from the Conti and around 11.6 from the Maserati. Part of that is I love to rev the Maserati for the sound and that's where the fun is in these cars. As for value, here in the U.S. they are both pretty much fully depreciated and are a decent value, but get a good example as repairs can be pricey. For long distance trips, I take the Bentley. I find it more comfy and it's heft makes it really solid when navigating around lots of SUVS. But with the Maserati....everyone will hear you coming. You can't lose either way, really. (Unless you absolutely need 4WD, then the Bentley wins, hands down.)
Way Better drive car than the new one !
Hey James, what an excellent review (and a fantastic car)! I'm reeeeally thinking of getting one, and I look forward to your buyer's guide promised here 😉
I have the 2008 with about 25.000 miles. I'll never sell it. But I will get the new Trofeo and Folglore.
A great car but even if I got one or free I would not be able to afford the upkeep.
Everything is very expensive on this car, because it's 2 brands at the same time Maserati and Ferrari.
Thank god I bought a GranTurismo S 4 years ago. Still turns more heads than any Porsche while doing it with so much style. It's not a car, it's art.
Do you own a Porsche?
than any Porsche ? really?
I don't know of any Porsche people get their cameras out for like they do with the Maz, when you're just nipping to the shop. They're unique.
@@AB-sr9mc
As with a lot of exotic cars, single experiences can be great, but will you still be as happy after a few eye watering bills? Definitely one for the well salaried😃
Not that expensive. And major repairs are far and few. It's the little quirky repairs that'll make you pull your hair out and add up in cost.
You have sold me on a grand turisimo, just nee d to find the best one in my bubjet.
Thanks for building up the appeal of these just as I’m starting to seriously consider buying one! Hope your influence doesn’t extend to driving the prices upward! 😂
Loved everything about my leased 2018 MC. Daily drove it for 3 years. Only wished it had about 50 more HP (especially compared to the Sport trim) and most importantly an 8-speed auto. Wonderful GT car overall
I'm getting the 'just get a lexus' vibes from these lol. Thank me later.
👍🏻 sonic joy
Beautiful car and one of the best sounding cars ever.
This is a definition of good car the balance between handling of power and the supercar characteristics with the heavenly Ferrari 4.7L Naturally Aspirated V8 exhaust note and the massive paddle shifters with the functional 4 seats and great daily drive -ability and cheaper price tag. Absolutely a dream.
The new one looks identical…just a new interior and powertrain. Identical. Bet it shares about 70-80% of its parts
Na if you look the new one really is all new, but they've made a lot of effort to make it look otherwise (a bit like the new Bentley Continental)
Listening to this video with auto captions and when you're demoing the engine sound, UA-cam shows [Applause] [Music]
🙂
Depreciated £10k pa. Its a lot of money to lose
A bloke up the road from me has one of these. Stealth fighter. Uber cool.
As amazing as this car is - I’d still have an F type - R
Agree looks Great. As for the sound track, hey Mr Plod listen yobbo going fast.
I prefer my car to go fast and quietly so as not to Alarm anyone and more importantly allowing the passengers to talk and arrive refreshed.
Looking at buying a 2019 MC right now. I test drove the 2024 Modena… it’s a disappointment compared to a 2019 MC…. Ferrari should’ve stayed on. Instead of stellLantis taking over
I own 2, 2011s a Sport Coupé and a 2011 Cabrio Sport both with the 4.7 V8s... not planning on getting rid of them as the NA Ferrari built engine is glorious sounding and they are both just sexy designs! Thanks!
Such a beautiful car! Just the servicing and parts pricing puts me off 😞
Everything is very expensive on this car, because it's 2 brands at the same time Maserati and Ferrari.
I also had at the same time a BMW 850 CSI an that had ad a tweaked exhaust to but apart from a initial shout ( very short blare ) it was discreet until you wanted to hear it scream “ the base of a McLaren F1 “ had to slip that in cos everyone how ever even stood near a 850 CSI seems to .
Great car 1997 P reg in black with grey / black leather. Sold to someone in Jersey at 57,000 miles
It sounds like if you're daily driving one, MC is better but if you want one for weekend fun car, the stradale is better. I do wonder how the running cost is for these.
Still fancy one of these so bad!
Love how the subtitles switch between music and applause when you floor it, 100% accurate. The MPG and horror stories put me off, can’t fault people for buying one though!
Soooo, the car is not even clean for a review?
I think the best sounding V8 ever. Maybe Alfas version in the 8C was slightly better
Would I have one? No. Why? No Maserati dealer anywhere near my home. Great review Jay.
That m2 comment was hilarious... anyways great video as always. I love this car too.
Are they a potential money pit like the quattroporte?
The back looks like a dodge viper
Can you please stop tempting us to buy the Quattroporte or GT?
He got me I bought aQP last week. It’s absolutely glorious.
I would be keen to hear your thoughts on the new GranTurismo Trofeo if you ever get your hands on one.
Kinda want one..
It's a great looking V8. In future years, it'll do fine.
I know it would be a nightmare but I could never truly be mad at it
I have always wanted a Maserati. I am 77, and now is the time. I’m shopping. Convertible, or Coupe? My budget is $40,000 US. Please comment.
Those brisk hand moves when operating the touch screen... Lovely idea :) :) :D BTW: Very well made video with tons of information. Congrats!!
Bought one, absolutely love it. Much better (and dare I say more reliable) than the 991.1 GTS4 that I’ve owned since new.
I absolutely believe the Ferrari California story. The 3200 is still an achingly gorgeous car, but you can almost draw a direct line from the Gran Sport to the California. The California sticks out as looking, and feeling, unlike any of the other Ferraris. It doesn't share any styling flourishes, it's too much of a 'tourer' to be a real modern Ferrari, it literally looks like they stole it.
There is also rumors the Ferrari Roma was intended originally as Maserati and supposed to be the all new Alfieri - which only made it as a concept car. Sadly.
on the dream list
No es gran final, es una tortura!
Obserbada por diferentes paises..
No cambieis el mombre de la situacion!
Y que cada cual pague lo que tenga que pagar, por algo son sus actos y los compartidos pues a sumar mas...
Great car but I like the Spyder a lot better. These GT's were always too big IMO, the Spyder was the last compact sporty feeling 2 seater they made.
The best sounding car I’ve owned is a 2007 Merc SLK AMG 55 with a X pipe , sounded like a ww11 spitfire on a staffing run on full chat 😊😊 totally different guttural sound to a high strung Italian but both completely glorious an great at pissing off the neighbours at 7 am. My merc only had a noisy start an it was enough to wake the dead 😊😊😊😊
World War Eleven?!
Lol anything over 5000rpm sounded like a incoming attack it was brilliant , hugely anti social an it popped an banged all over at any time but it wasn’t mapped in its just that it did it .
My CLA 45AMG an AMG exhaust popped an banged an was much more Anita social cos it didnt have a V8 burble to go with it it was just bloody noisy an very quick, it was a 2017 shooting break that i had mapped for performance NOT noise to 500 bhp from 380 inc a cold air an a new inter cooler but that would destroy any RS3 an any badly driven RS4/5 or M3/4 , BMWs of that time never new where to go, i had 4x4 they had tyre smoke or iffy launch control , good old days😃 i stick to my 2018 `range Rover SV Autobiography now but I’m looking for something fun for summer . Be well 👌
Happy days 😊
I ran an M113k for a couple of years and it's probably about as far from the Maserati engine as something with the same number of cylinders could be! Very much a generic big (AMG and yank) V8 noise; I'm pretty sure the Maserati won't glug-glug at a tick-over!
Not forgotten, avoided.
Still was the best looking and best sounding GT on the market despite it's age. The new one is a technically better car probably, but not as good looking and not as legendary sounding.
Why don't you just test the car, if that's what the headline says instead of the endless talk about models and history of the car.
Make a separate video for people who want to listen to your meaningless drivel.
I do admit it’s in the top ten best sounding v8 in the world but is a garbage 🗑️ product so many things break in this car and it’s big money to fix I mean it’s still cheaper then a Ferrari v8 😊 I do like it though.
I understand why but omg the car sits like a foot over the rear wheels. Gran turismo is one of the most beautiful cars ever made but the stance/height differential looks kinda awful
Beautiful car and sounds fantastic… great review as always
Cross-plane loveliness………🎉
Good video, as always. Like you said in the video, I almost bought one of those. I was seriously considering it and during a conversation with a 'specialist', found out the servicing and parts costs. I bought a F82 M4 instead. Boring??
Compared to a Maserati? Absolutely. But let's be honest, most of us would not want to pay the running costs of the GT
@@omnitraveller About servicing: the (original) oil filter is like 80 bucks. Which is ridiculous - but other than that?
Had to replace an oil pan last year on the M139 (wet sump F136 V8). Costs a touch above 200€, for a cast and machined all aluminium part!
I'm convinced Maserati is actually just rolling the dice on their price (of spare parts).
Buy it with this zf auto not the trashy f1 style.
