Northern Cheyenne Tribe - my daughter grew up as a jingle dress dancer. She was also a princess representing many people. She's only 20 now but has gone through 35 dresses and will need many more throughout her life. But they do have layers of fabric. I believe we put on around 120-140 jingles on each dress. We've weighed each dress with all the accessories, the lightest was 38 lbs and the heaviest was 52 lbs. My daughter has to train for months to dance like that and make it look effortless. Especially when dancing on her toes.

The dresses are called Jingle dresses because they attach hundreds of pieces of metal to their dresses that make that jingle sound when the dancer moves.

@@heatherspence3848 the dresses are hand made and the only part that is modern is the bells but even those go back to first contact

I love the respect that the two of you give to Native American culture. It’s very important and it’s very special because they are the last natives of America.
It’s extremely kind of you to give this attention to the subject. I I have a dear friend that is Native American and and I am going to share this with her and I think she will like the two Native American videos. You have done, and perhaps lead her to some of your other videos. She moved from Arizona to Orlando two years ago and lived with me and my husband for a short time. I think you would both like her very much.

    Hidatsa/Cherokee Tribes here.
There is a beautiful Legend about the Jingle Dress, that is too long to post here.
The Jingle Dress is a dress made for dancing the Dances that Heal. They are considered healing dresses and dances.
You need to have a dream of one or permission from an Ojibwe Elder to make a dress, before you can dance it.
There are two types of Jingle Dress Dancing .... Old Style Jingle and Contemporary Style Jingle.
The 2nd dance they did was called a side step.
There are multiple types of dances that can be danced at a Pow-Wow.
If you are ever in the U.S., you really should go to a Pow-Wow, I am sure you would love not just the dancing, but also the atmosphere.
I am glad more people are interested in our Cultures.

    Yo! I'm Ponca(Tribe)-Oklahoma
Just thought your video was sweet and nice to see Asian Indians enjoy our culture.
I know the names get confusing but in Oklahoma we still call ourselves Indians because it was short for Indigenes but now days people also say Native American, First Nations, and probably stuff I don't know ha
Really enjoyed the video, thanks for enjoying our dances!!

@Small Town Couple Just wanted to add, I didn't know if you saw my other post suggesting Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown, But if you're interested in Native American history that is THE book to help understand the tribes about their thoughts and feelings in their own words during colonialism. I'll stay tuned, thanks for the content!

@Small Town Couple Try the book Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown! It is a beautiful collection on the voices of the First Nations people who lived during colonialism. There is an HBO movie but like most Book Movies it falls short just due to run time, because the book covers so much of Native History. My Mexican mother gave me her copy when I got older because she told me she wanted me to understand everything that wasn't being taught to me in school, the voice of the Natives in their own words on how they felt during those hard times. Love-Patience-Kindness-Acceptance makes us all better world neighbors!!
