Not really, Goku has always trained damn hard, especially up until Namek, Vegeta had never trained as hard up until then. Only afterwards did Vegeta dedicate himself to close the gap. (note, I'm not hyping Goku, I am a vegeta fan 100%) It's great to see Vegeta living a different path to Goku imo
