KGF was the only gold mine in India. It is located in Kolar district, Karnataka, around 94 km away from Bangalore.
It was famous for Gold mining and the mining has been stopped since 2001 due to the low level of gold production.
It's a good weekend destination from Bangalore.
From KGF with the help of local people you can reach cyanide Hills.
India's first power generation unit was created to support operations of the KGF in early 1900s.

Cyanide was named because
After the extraction of gold,with mud and rocks. They mixed the chemical called cyanide with that mud to seperate gold from that extracted mud and rock. After the separation of gold the waste and remaining mud was thrown outside the mines hence it is called as cyanide,
