yeah, even if we were to assume everything is actually at the youngest age in any range or even significantly younger than that, we're still talking about ages well beyond their 6k claims. And there are plenty of other factors besides these dating methods that easily preclude the earth (nevermind the whole universe) being that young.

Indeed. The MO of the apologist is to deliberately IGNORE all the evidence AGAINST their position. It's hard to believe that this isn't a deliberate move on their part most of the time.

Their fairy tales can only be supported by fairy tales. But Slick et al are happy with that, because that's all it takes to keep enough of the flock in their tender embrace for yet another month. It's radiometric dating this month, but next month it'll be fresh blood in T. rex fossils and then lethal mutation accumulation the month after that.

My Mom was religious for most of my life, but when I started asking difficult questions(around 9yrs.), she supported me in my search for truth instead of trying to reinforce the indoctrination of her religion at the time(LDS). @@tabularasa0606 I used to build microwave spectrometers and related instrumentation, and even had chemists, Material physics and other physicists help us to make customizations as needed... You're the biochemist here, you tell me"!
I also got to meet some pretty well known scientist from places like Firmilab, Max Plank institute, MIT, Oxford... and learned a lot from them, and never did any of them treat me like "Just an engineer", or get a "You wouldn't understand... They always probed you to see what you did know in where they were going, to see if you could follow, and then clarify it first before going forward. They just want to sin.” Most genuinely DO believe their mythos, but do not have the willingness or capability of understanding these more advanced concepts (at the risk of sounding condescending, though most laymen do not), and most all their research is through the lens of a confirmation bias for a conclusion they have already reached. It’s yellow research, if you will (yellow journalism combined with confirmation bias), that paints their view in which they believe they’re actually correct.

One thing about YECs is that, in a way, they realize that a universe that is 14,000,000,000 years old, makes absolutely ZERO sense from a Christian perspective. That literally means, using Sagan's Calendar, that we humans didn't even appear until the last minute or two on 12/31.
A universe this old (and this large) is completely incoherent on any theistic model, especially one like Christianity that teaches that everything revolves around Jesus and humanity. Um, OK, so what's with the BILLIONS AND BILLIONS of galaxies, planets, black holes, etc.? They HAVE to have a 6,000-year-old "universe" in order to save their savior and put humanity back at the center of things, which is what their Cosmic Narcissist religion is all about.

Radiometric came about when radio grew to cover all the world. When radio was first invented in the UK in 1640 it used Yards to measure the wavelength of the transmitted signal, Radio Colaig in Scotland's wavelength was 286 yards as the jingles would confirm. As I say most of the world used the Metric system so to make radio compatable worldwide it was changed to metres, and of course laterly to hz.

We might wonder why they cling to their position when it requires them to lie. They do so, of course, because they simply do not care about truth or facts. @ageofrocks 25 днів тому

True, but I feel confident (from experience) that people in Matt's position fall prey to a subset of the 'appeal to authority' fallacy, where they not only accept claims uncritically from perceived authorities but they identify those authorities on ideological bases (e.g. this doctor is politically conservative, so I trust them over a liberal doctor contradicting their medical advice; this scientist goes to a baptist church, so I trust their study over the one by a muslim scientist contradicting their conclusions).
Through this filter, it's easy to be duped into thinking your worldview makes more sense than all others when tested against complex data, because you never had to deal with falsifying observations. I remember that feeling. For some, it's like a drug, and they ride it high their whole lives. I think Matt sincerely believes he is right because was duped into thinking that Paul Giem (who is legitimately competent in math and basic geochemistry so comes off as an expert in Matt's world) had fairly represented the discipline.

I’d like to understand everything that was said here,, but everything just ricochet violently off my face.
I tried to concentrate and take it in but I was absolutely lost the moment the qualified scientist opened his mouth.
If someone like me who would like to understand this topic but simply just can’t,,, then Just imagine how impossible it would be to explain this to regular Christians who don’t want to know about any of this kinda thing.

For example Uranium-238 has a half-life of 4.5 billion years we discovered this has been around sense the earth existed.
the amount of Uranium-238 that had existed at the time of the earth's birth has now reduced to half
this makes the earth about 4.6 billion years old, approximately.
that also means in another 4.6 billion years, half of what is already here will be gone.
      does that help any?
Think of it as a shape that gets cut in half after a period of time, then you cut what is left in half again, after the same period of time.
Lets say we have a cube you cut it in half after 10 min take the remaining half and then cut that in half, keep doing so till there is nothing left. This is a simplification of how decay rates work.

Since no one was actually there to measure the original levels of the elements being measured when the sample was formed, they still have to be assumed (as implied @ 4:20min).
Another problem is that nobody was there to measure any possible leaching into or out of the sample of the elements being measured. That also has to be assumed.
Then there is the possibility that the rate of decomposition of one element into another in the sample has not been consistent. Nobody was there to observe that either. That another assumption that needs to be made.
The necessary assumptions are made to fit the millions-of-years story.
Radiometric 'dating' is like turning up at the end of a race and pressing the stop button. Regardless of the quality and accuracy of the measuring instrument, the result is meaningless. No one was there at the start of the race to press the start button.

Radioactive decay is constant and the half life depends on the element. Radioactive elements decay at different rates from fractions of seconds to millions and billions of years

How long something can last doesn't tell us how long it has been here.
Carbon 14 on the other hand only has a half life of about 5700 years. There is abundant C14 in oil, coal, diamonds and fossils which should all be gone if the earth was millions of years old. That alone tells us that earth can only be thousands of years old at most.
Then you also have the existence of unmineralized dinosaur bones and soft tissue -- the original biological material of the animals. These are also obviously not millions of years old, but only thousands at most.
