I agree with Johnny, if you don't already own a ps4 and not interested in a 4K tv yet, the slim is a good option.
The PS4 Pro only needs 4k for HDR. Most other benefits will be visible on a 1080p screen since most games will still run at 1080p but with higher settings enabled such as draw distance, AA, texture quality, and better frame rate. The PS4 Pro is just going to scale most games to 4k from 1080p.
I don't agree. £100 more for the added power is more than worth it IMO.
+Arnold “CrazIEGamer02” Rivers there's no added power in the slim. It's the exact same hardware just smaller. Maybe you're thinking the pro.

Yes, I was talking about the Pro. It's only £100 more than the slim, and is twice as powerful. For me, that's worth the extra £100.

Sony recommends a 60 inch 4K tv which right now is around the 800 dollar make so it's more like 900 dollars to get the full experience. Also I just bought a PS4 in 2015 so for this to happen about 1.5 years after I got my PS4 is kinda shocking that they would upgrade a system so soon. Especially after how long the PS4 lasted. I'm afraid they will upgrade again in another 2-3 years and have to buy another 400 dollar gaming machine. So I think I'll stick with my PS4 for now.

I think I will wait for the PS4 4.7 Slim Expert edition.
Also read somewhere on the internet (so must be true) that it also has a slot that allows you to use the N64 expansion pack, this will help improve textures but might cause frame rate to drop for some games. Also an add on is in the works that allows you to use the 32X, no date on when it's out unfortunately.

That's because compared to those two. Sony did a fantastic job with the PS4 OG launch model size to make it as small as they did. That's why you can't really make it much more smaller than that

While on the PSone (the smaller version of the Playstation), I noticed that Playstation games rendered better on the PSone than the Playstation 2 with backwards compatibility. I played Metal Gear Solid during the final stage and the playback was so much sharper and more depth. The Playstation 2's was about half as good as the PSone in that regard. The option to make the graphics smoother and quicken the loading times on the PS2 was also very impressive.
I still wonder to this day if PSone rendering was combined with the smooth textures and faster loading times.
Same, I always loved the slim redesigns. Even if some remove things or features, I just love the overall design

My PS4 slim gets really hot after hours of gaming. Especially with GPU intensive games such as UC4 or GOW. It doesn't overheat nor does the console give me any errors, but it feels really hot to the touch. Especially the portion at the back. The front is always cool.
Yeah mine would get crazy hot. I did have an external hard drive on top and I'm pretty sure the heat eventually cooked that hdd. I eventually took it apart, cleaned it, put in new thermal pads and re-pasted the silicon. It didn't really help...
It's interesting to hear that the slim runs quieter and cooler than the original PS4. I wonder if that will impact the life of the console significantly.
No version of the PS4 is compatible with my Revenge of Shinobi SEGA Genesis cartridge; therefore, the PS4 is of no use to me.
Revenge of Shinobi is one of my fave games of all time. Would love a port on PS4.
Revenge of Shinobi is as close to perfect as any action/platformer I've ever played.

I prefer the C-chassis to the slim personally. The PS4 was already small enough and quite enough imo, and I prefer the square edges and to the round.
I also like the light bar on the original that they removed from the Slim.
Lastly, other reviewers have stated they think the slim is made of cheaper plastics from the feel of it, I have not seen nor felt one to confirm this!

I like how the Slim looks, so it's nice to see someone who likes it too. It also resembles that of the PSTV system as well, which I personally enjoy. Nice comparison video Johnny.

Thing that trips me out is why don't they release these slim models first. I can't imagine that the technology wasn't there for it from day one.

Damn! I would have mistaken it for a cheap laptop. I guess the only best thing about it is not overheating as much as the original model. I worry for the amount of heat it generates especially in a well hair conditioned room. I'm worried if I'm keeping the dust off of it enough so it won't burn up. I'm paranoid because I've fried up the grafics card on my laptop.
It actually looks a lot better than in the leaked photos.
I still prefer the look of the original PS4. The Slim has no major changes for me to get one. Now the Xbox One S, that thing is way better than the original Xbox One
People who own the REV2 model of the PS4 will already have the quieter fan, cooler system, physical buttons (non-conductive), matte finish.
You should also know that Sony dropped the optical audio output. While it seems unnecessary to some, there are some speakers and high end headphones which utilized it.
One thing I would upgrade to a new PS4 system would be a 3.5" hdd bay... then we could use 8TB hdds, but nope.. Not happening.

I just looked it up, and if what I read is accurate, in California it is illegal to carry a butterfly knife with a blade longer than 2 inches out in public. It is legal to own a butterfly knife, though.
So basically, you can own one and keep it at home, but you can't carry it in public.
I am glad Sony included a PHYSICAL version of the game rather than a download code....

Since I am quite happy with my handhelds..I will be buying a PS4 at the end of its life...cheaper consoles and hopefully cheaper preowned games :D much like with the PS3!
I am currently saving up for a WiiU as I have a few games I bought beforehand that I thought might become limited and overpriced in a few years time.
I went out and bought a second PS4 before the slim came out because I could not stand the lack of symmetry between the top and bottom portions of the new model. Also, the lack of the optical out was a no go.
I like hitting the 0 key on my keyboard multiple times to hear "SO WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER EPISODE." lol

I remember getting my first PlayStation 4 the bloody thing was heavy.
Because I could never get Wi-Fi in my bedroom so I had to carry it all the way downstairs but now I have a slim it has made things easier

Why no one seems to care the improved wifi on slim? For me it's a game changer. I have 4g modem at home and my old ps4 was not able to connect to internet with it and same goes with various hotel wifi's. I travel a lot beacause of my work and carry my ps4 with me and with slim I'm finally able to play online during my trips.
that's a good point .....WiFi ....Idk which console to buy ....pro ...stock r slim ....something about the slim tells me it probably can't take the heat ....hmm

You mention 4K, but PlayStation VR sounds like it's going to be *infinitely* better on the PS4 Pro.
IMO the PS4 consoles are the best looking consoles ever.
I feel nice about holding back on this generation really the best time toi catch up on the PS2 and PS1 RPGs I didn't get to play back in the day.
Idk why but every time I get a new console, it has always been a Slim version. My Mom gets me and my sister a PS2 Slim, then she buys the fam a PS3 Slim a few years later, then my Grandma gets me an Xbox 360 Slim another few years later, and now I'm considering getting a PS4 Slim... WHAT IS IT WITH MY FAMILY AND SLIM CONSOLES!? XD

500gb consoles should be forbidden by law...there is absolutely NO reason manufacturers should be allowed to place 500gb in to the consoles when the price difference between 500gb and 1000gb hdd is 5 dollars...

With all these current gen upgrades, VR etc. I notice the price of last gen games just keeps dropping and dropping. Seriously, I got Vanquish and Metal Gear Rising for $7.50 each brand spanking new. This is definitely the time to grab last gen's gems before they become retro and fashionable to collect.

Cool. I always preferred the og version of consoles myself with the exception being the Xbox 360 Slim, that one I think looked nicer then the launch design.
There's no optical audio out on the slim, that's a deal breaker for me as i use my Astro A40's all the time and wouldn't be able to use my mix amp pro, anyone using surround sound would probably be screwed also.
Hello. I am planning to buy a PS4, but I'm not sure about which version I should buy cause you all say that the slim is the same like the standard, which are the two versions I am between in. So which one do you recommend me? Cause I once had the ps1 like you and it was the slim version. I felt really confortable with it, but then the ps2 slim and the ps3 slim came like poor, like they usually get hot easy or they fall and get broken. I know they are not made of iron.......but also the slim should not be like so weak. Has this changed? Help me please
There is no differences,both was simply by looks
PS4 pro will still have improved features on 1080p/1440p TVs, depending on the games. Tomb Raider will have the option to boost graphics, as will all future games.
Kind of an odd time to release it what with the Pro coming out so soon. Even if someone didn't have a 4k HDR TV, I can't imagine getting the Slim vs the Pro just to save $100. I'd rather spend the extra $100, get the handful of enhancements, and then be ready if I ever did get a modern TV.
Jesse Watson man ps4 slim came to substitute original ps4... now they don't produce the fat ps4 anymore instead they do this new version. c'mon guys it has been like that since the ps1... psone came in 96 slim version in 2000, ps2 in 2000 slim version in 2004, ps3 in 2006 slim version in 2009, ps4 in 2013 slim version in 2016. why are u guys reacting like if it is something new?

I always liked the OG versions of every console.
Personally don't have a PS4 at the moment. Looking to buying one sometime next year, going for the Pro. Hopefully by the end of next year I'll have a PS4 Pro and a Scorpio or what ever it will be called sitting under my tv and hopefully an NX. 2017 is sounding to be an expensive year 😲

I like the hdmi placement my og ps4 is the silver batman edition and the ammoumt of scratches by the hdmi port pissed me off for years

i got the psone slim as my first piece of playstation hardware and yeah gotta admit even today its a great looking machine never had the lcd but might here soon cause the system itself is cheap. i like this version as well i will likely get this or the pro since i have no ps4 yet
still debating on buying any new model. the VR doesn't excite me at all unless I can play GTA or a full game like that. not upgrading for 4k, PC gaming is calling me.
