Can't thank Chuck enough for this! Just got a Concept SLD gen II and it's absolutely HORSE SHIT that I had to scour the internet to find a video explaining this. Line blew up about 15 times in a row and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to adjust the spool on the inside. 275 bucks for a reel, I wasn't about to force anything or risk breaking it. Might wanna put a video or "how to" on your product website 13Fishing. Hell, i'd settle for a manual. At least shimano put recommendations of what setting you should use based on the line you're using on your Curado DC. Chuck, thanks again for doing what 13Fishing didn't do.
Thank you, this really helped. I’ve always been a spinning reel guy. I recently won a baitcaster reel from 13 fishing and have been wandering how to properly use it.
Man I really appreciate this video. When I first saw the reel I just knew I had to get it. I bought the reel and took it out to the lake. I then realize the dial isn’t on the outside like most baitcaster reels. I noticed the lever but didnt even learn how it was supposed to be adjusted. Iol. Now it’s all good and I can make far casts. Thanks a bunch!
I'm a avid spin reel guy but just bought my first 13 fishing concept A2 baitcaster I've never used one before so thank u I got a rat's nest my second cast cuz I didn't know how to tune it
Great video! I just don't understand why baitcasting reels can't come with a quick setup guide like this. This brake was a little different than the centrifugals I'm used to and this is my first 13 Fishing reel. Great video, it's just sad I had to come to youtube to set it up.
There’s a little white pin, that’s usually set on “zero”, when you buy a new 13 Fishing baitcaster. You can slide that around the dial to adjust the brake. Set it to about 5 for a brand new reel. Hope that help.
I am right handed which reel size is good for a new fisherman in the concept z 13 , like to fish from shore , occasionaly a boat for bass or walleye , crappie thank you
MARK MORAWSKI as far a baitcasters go, you’ll just want the standard size reel. You don’t need the big one unless you’re deep cranking or fishing for musky, etc.
I just got a 13fishing concept tx3 yesterday. I went out and make a few cast and it bird nest over and over and over again... maybe im not used ot its side break yet. Also there's not many video about the tx3
The settings should be about the same. Try turning the dial all the way up to 6 and tightening the tension knob. Better to start off with it too tight than too loose.
So increasing the number will result in lest birds nest? I got this real about 8 months ago and haven’t used it more than 3 times. This was my first and last bait caster I got lol. It’s just been sitting on my desk cause it looks pretty haha. And I’ve been thinking about giving it another try. I never opened it and when I did after watching this vid it was set on 0.
Jr yes, they come out of the box set on “0”. I’d suggest turning it up to 4 or 5 and tightening the tension knob down a little. As you get used to it, you can loosen it up a little.
People can not see or I cannot see how to move the dial, your hand is covered the dial when you do that, can you make a new one and show how to dial to different number?

Chuck, I just bought a new Concept c2 and took it fishing yesterday. I set it on 2 and adjusted the tension knob and it was casting pretty good but it makes noise during the cast. I just watched this video so I can try your suggestions you recommend in this video but I've never had a reel make noise during the cast. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
@@ChuckPippinBassFishing After watching your video I put a light lube on bearing and rails and it seemed a bit better and also also adusting the cast control knob lighter helps. This was my second fishing trip. I'll let you know if it continues. thanks for the reply. Bob
So I have a Origin FT bait caster, I've had it for 4-5yrs. I can not find the break. I have the tention knob, I have the drag knob. Any help at this point will be good. Thx
Chuck, I had asked you a few months ago about my new Concept c2 reel making noise on the cast and you replied with some suggestions. It never got any better and I would like to send it back to the company for repair or replacement. I called 13 fishing a few days ago and left a message and they never called me back. Where do I send it and should I leave the line on the reel?
Hey Chuck I see in your videos looks like your almost always using what looks to be either flouro or mono do you limit your braid use to flipping heavy cover and frog fishing?
Scrimmy All of my spinning rods have braid. Sometimes, if needed, I’ll use a fluorocarbon or mono leader. As fare as my baitcasters go, I only use braid when I need to. It’s just a personal preference.
I just feeling like i would get more bites on floro but not sure on what size would work well for kissimmee for like senkos chatterbaits traps speed worms stuff like that?
After watching this video I subscribed to your channel because you explain things logically I have a question for you however I have a 13 concept baitcaster and every time I reel in the line it fills the spool up crooked is there any way to adjust this to make it feel more evenly meaning one side of the spool has more line on it than the other
I have the TXZ. It doesn’t cast far. I notice when I turn the breaking up i feel a difference in the reel. It spoil feels tighter when I reel. My Concept Tx cast a country mile but the TXZ is not cutting it. Any ideas?
My concept z I set to three and set the spool tension as always the same as you do here and haven’t had to change a thing. My inception SZ (12lb floro, M/mod-fast rod) even with brakes on 4 or 5 and spool tension set anywhere wants to backlash every other cast unless heavily thumbing the reel, and then doesn’t get much distance. Tried a few different lures and a slightly heavier one seemed a bit better but still giving me trouble after about 3 hours of use between two days now, any tips?
My new real cover will not close. The switch just will not adjust/click over to closed. I have the black reel in your video. I have tried everything I can see possible that could be in the way. Any suggestions? Thanks
Tony Webb try loosening the spool tension knob on the opposite side of the reel. If that knob is tight, it pushes the spool out and makes it difficult to reseat the side plate.
Try loosening the tension spool tension knob. If it has been tightened, it will slightly push the spool towards the side of the reel that you’re trying to close. Hope that helps
Hi there..just got a new concept a3 for swimbait fishing. Saw your video. I have a question and hopefully you have time to answer me. I will be using 1 to 3 oz swimbaits. What kind of lines is suitable for that and how many lbs line should I use ?
+Dave Lam Thanks for watching. You’re going to have to use some heavy line to throw swim baits of that size. I would suggest 20 - 25 LB monofilament or fluorocarbon, or 40 - 50 LB braided line. Hope that helps
I have the fate black origin combo from 13 fishing and it has been a nightmare for me. this is my first baitcaster combo, and I continue to get backlash. I just had to take almost all of the line out to correct it. I followed your tutorial but still having issues. I set the dial to 4 and 5 and I can barely cast it out 15 feet. I fish on the shore so I cant get the bait out far enough into the water. If I lower the dial to 1-3 I will almost certainly get backlash. I have my tension knob set just like you explained as well. I really have no idea what I am doing wrong. I want to use a baitcaster but I will probably have to switch back to a spinning real. any ideas?

+gordongransden Thanks for watching. Hmm... I love the Z’s. If there’s any play in the handle, then something’s definitely not right. You’re probably correct. You may just need to remove the cap and tighten the nit down. If that doesn’t work, you should contact 13. 👊🏻

+Zachary Joyner the rate/speed the line is retrieved has only to do with the reel’s gear ratio. The only thing that would slow it down would be if your drag is set too loose?
No. That should not be happening. Sometimes it could be because you have too much line on the spool and it’s bunching up if it’s not wound tight enough.
