Very good explanation as to why under the Mosaic Law a King could not be a priest, but Jesus was both a King and priest because He stablish a New Covenant.

Your logical jumps are unwarranted, even if you happen to like them. Jesus said (I paraphrase) that the Pharisees had authority to speak about God's instruction and should be heeded on that front, despite their failure to have their own actions backing up their teachings. You work very hard to get away from Jesus' instruction here, by saying that someone else gets the seat, etc.
Maybe the lesson is that modern American Evangelical Christianity is what is now not bearing fruit, has lost the seat, etc. Maybe American conservative Protestantism is proving to be the desolate house today. Nah, that can't be it, can it? Or is the message that you, new seat-holders, are to be heeded despite your hypocrisy? That's also a plausible take on what you laid out.
A healthy white American Christian heterosexual male is further from being the "least of us" than the disabled queer atheist woman of color in this society. Maybe I should look to her for leadership. She probably knows more about what it's to be on the wrong end of abusive, coercive power.
May God lead us all to deeper repentance.

@brad Hello Brad. Clearly the 'house was made desolate' when Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD. After that the 'Levitical' form of Judaism (sacrificial system) gave way to Rabbinic Judaism. That is the fulfillment of 'your house is left to you desolate'.
