    the backbutton on the top of the remote is the number 1 reason i would never get it, such a bad design.

      This is a back for the LCD menu.. So it's not used nearly as often. Fortunately the "remote" part has its own back button for typical operation. But I agree with you. It's an awkward placement. They should be on each side of the scroll wheel

    Does it has a Home Assistant integration, or MQTT or so? Because a remote must also switch on the shellys and the close curtain and so on when I start TV.

      You can't issue a command from the remote like this. You can trigger base from HA via REST

    It does not have a microphone so it can not fully replace Google TV / Android TV remotes or Amazon Fire TV remote or other remotes that have a built-in mic. To use voive control you then need to have a Google Nest or Amazon Echo smart speaker

      Good point but honestly if the command is longer than 2-4 words I tend to use another means of control. I know routines and such are a thing but then you need to memorise the command and that makes it even more annoying haha

    The problem is not playstation the problem is that they tried to make it work without paying a license but reverse engineering the bluetooth comunication
    I have a pdp ir to bluetooth converter for Playstation and it works perfectly to turn on the console and in the prime video app
    Secondly the api is not local and not encrypted or authenticated so if i get a hold of your link i can do whatever i want with your device
    Basically a security nightmare for the low price of 200$ and if it wasn't already a problem enough if the company shutdown (wich is likely since it sells a niche product that wasn't worth the effort even for a giant like Logitech) you will be left with a little more than a paperweight
    absolutely not worth it in my opinion

      That's interesting about the PS4/5. You'd think that a regular BT keyboard would work with PS in apps too. I tried to emulate it as keyboard but without much success. RE: API I submitted my feedback about the API concerns. Local API would be more than enough without causing security nightmare. One of the reasons I blurred my links :)

      @@notenoughtech i think that's because of the DRM content being displayed. If you block every unlicensed device you limit the possibility of being circumvented (yes I know it's stupid because you can easily strip HDCP with an HDMI switch but company do this kind of things to appease shareholders not necessarily because it works)

      It's an awkward solution then. As I mention in the video it's a hard task to make an universal thing in the land of absolutely no standards

      @@notenoughtech the only way to make it work is to establish partnership with the companies that manufacture the device (especially bluetooth) that you want your remote to work with
      The problem with this approach is that especially if you are small this companies will ignore you (playstation in particular was fine very recently 14 milions euros by a French court because working with the them on a license product was deemed almost impossible therefore anticompetitive)

      It's a complex solution to a problem with no standard. Will work for some, others will have bigger expectations. It's nice to have one remote to do all.. As long as "all" is really your basic usage of media devices.

    • @johnszatkowski6898
      @johnszatkowski6898 3 місяці тому

      Exactly! REAL-WORLD! The Logitech Harmony remotes boasted "fantastic" battery life and everything else but really fell short on ALL claims! The Harmony remotes are great when they are charged but a USELESS brick when the battery is dead if you forgot to charge it rendering it USELESS when you actually need it! I think that's the reason Logitech pulled-the-plug on their remotes. Plus today in the streaming world like UA-cam TV, Hulu, Sling and others the Harmony remotes are useless anymore.

  • @chrisrosenkreuz23

    is there any solution that makes use of your regular remotes? Like a reverce IR blaster

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  4 місяці тому +1

      You could do this with RPI. I'm positive you'd find a project or two. The problem is the fact of having the IR remote in your hand. Even if you encode RPI to send other signals associated with a different remote, the one you hold would still issue original signals triggering unwanted device

  • @johnszatkowski6898

    OK! Here's a "real world" take on the X1s. It uses a rechargeable battery like the Logitech Harmony remotes in days of old and they SUCK! Once the battery is dead the remote is completely useless until it can recharge enough to be usable which will take well over 20min or more! In the meantime you can't do ANYTHING with it! The Sofabatton U2 remote uses AA batteries and can swap out the batteries in seconds and be on your way! The other downfall is the LACK of physical buttons that the U2 has to use as macros that the X1S has ONLY using the cumbersome scroll wheel and is counter productive IMO to preform the most simple tasks. I absolutely HATE the rechargeable battery option because we ALL forget to recharge them and then it's rendered USELESS. The other BIG turn-off is the price! Yes, the X1S has more features but the rechargeable battery is just a BIG turn-off IMO but the U2 remote serves my needs without the need to CONSTANTLY recharge it. The U2 remote will better suit the needs of most users without the charging hassle and has replaced my Logitech remotes now that I've switched to streaming over cable TV. I personally have NO need for the EXTRA cost of the X1S over the U2 remote to control my devices.

      I'd agree with you in principle. However... Battery lasts 60 days. That's 6 charges a year. Battery performance is measured by charge cycles and for lipo it's usually 350-1000 cycles.
      If you do the maths. The battery will reach 80% capacity in 40 years.

    • @johnszatkowski6898
      @johnszatkowski6898 4 місяці тому

      @@notenoughtech I can't agree. I replaced the battery in my Harmony Elite TWICE due to lack of charge and terrible battery life. Never lasted past ONE year. NO thanks on the rechargeable route.

    • @johnszatkowski6898
      @johnszatkowski6898 3 місяці тому

      @@notenoughtech ; LOL! NO rechargeable battery has EVER lasted that long and your lucky as hell if you get 2yrs at best. You've obviously NEVER owned a Logitech Harmony remote with the "rechargeable" batteries! 40yrs ON PAPER but NOT in the real world! They "say" 60 day battery life but have you ACTUALLY tested and proven this? I don't think so. These smaller cells discharge quickly and degrade further from there.
