  • This is my second recording of this fugue which is one of the six fugues Händel composed for organ, "manualiter", that is, without pedals. As far as I can see, Händel wrote barely a dozen of fugues for keyboard. But most of them are masterpieces, on a par with the very best fugues Johann Bach composed.
If one really likes the "fugal art", I believe one would cherish a composition like this. This fugue (as well as HWV 605 and 609, for that matter) reminds me of Johann Sebastian Bach's last fugue, the Contrapunctus XIV of BWV 1080. The pace is rather slow and the structures recall earlier stages of the fugal tradition.
Glenn Gould, in his famous three-part interview with Bruno Monsaignon shortly before he died, said about Bach's last fugue, that Bach was moving "further and further away from his contemporaries' expectations". I feel the same about these fugues by Händel still today.
The synthesizer is employed only as a sound module. In other words, it's good old "live playing".

Thanks so much for Your devotion to the fugal Art, and bringing the works of composers other than Bach out in the open where they can appreciated, and reincarnated into OUR HEARTS .!
