Imagine going to a bar with this guy. "You see the thing about margaritas is..."
Those have neither 100+ mg of caffeine or vitamins and am not interested.
I would love to see you create your own! Not only just energy drinks, but food items too! It is SO hard to find super clean ingredients in anything we consume!
Drink:Contains sucralose
This guy: *Dies*
@@pratikastrosaha5015 living in general is unhealthy but sucralose is better than sugar it’s not a big deal.
@@pratikastrosaha5015 How is it unhealthy? You'd have to drink like 20 cans a day for a year or smth like that to see any effects LMAO.
@@dezenttt9117 it boosts your insulin spike. Having it in excess will create problems in future. Why risk having it when you could have better alternatives compared to that . Anyways it's your choice whether you want to follow it or not. Staying healthy is a lifestyle, you need to make certain compromises which are sustainable in order to attain a better life. Peace brother
"Xyience: no acesulfame potassium" Except for the acesulfame potassium
Daniel Wynne hah.. You beat me to it. He missed it on the ingredients list.
I noticed that as well. It's easy to overlook but important to address.
I see that Thomas bought the Xyience which did have Acesulfame P, and didn't buy Uptime which didn't have it. Both had sucralose
you my friend got me into fasting and trying hard to eat better in 8 months i have went from 245 lbs to 205 i feel so much better and being a diabetic my a1c has dropped to almost normal thank you for doing what you do!!!!!!!
Really enjoyed this energy drink break down. I'm learning a ton about fasting and ingredients as you read these labels!
This must have been shot a few months ago. There's still toilet paper in the store.

Excessive caffeine disrupts testosterone creation, so they may be right 🤷🏾♂️
@@TheTorqueAholic Yep, it raises cortisol. I really need to get better about too much caffeine and not enough sleep, but my natural T levels must be great as far as natural genetic potential because I've had good levels for years despite my lifestyle being full of major T level killers. I stopped things like too much hoppy craft beer and not a great diet, pretty much just stopped alcohol don't have a drop weeks at a time, really easy to do with a diet based on keto and high-quality foods. But even through my 20's never lost sight of 6-pack abs, I was only averaging 4-5 hours of sleep a night too, partly or getting 5-6 only on weekends but more like 3.5-4 weekdays, my sleep has been shit and is still not great at 34 years old. I just need to work on that and caffeine now, of course managing caffeine better will help the sleep I'm sure so that's the place to start.
Glasses you can sleep in that block 99.9% of both blue and green light is really helpful though, it's working wonders. Much better than 98% of blue light, but that's a lot better than nothing. Targeted-keto based on quality animal foods, I only go highest quality so I don't even eat organic chicken, it's still grain-fed, fine if you go with lean meats I guess but it's more expensive than 100% grass-fed/finished hormone/antibiotic-free beef anyway. So I stick to that, beef organs, and wild-caught fish mainly. I just take a full-spectrum beef organs supplement mostly liver and brains, raw freeze-dried powder from New Zealand cows, has balanced amounts of heart, spleen, pancreas, and kidney too. Between that and fermented skate liver oil, I don't really have a need for things like oysters and sardines like before, so just some wild-caught smoked salmon here and there for a treat. It's nice not having to worry about oxidized fish oils and can liners in canned fish, though it's still pretty good for you if it's wild-caught, just not ideal. The fermented skate liver oil is raw too.
Other than that for animal foods I generally stick to pasture-raised ghee and raw goat/sheep cheese. Then some great plant staples I've been going with are acai berry powder partly for being so low sugar so keto-friendly, fermented cabbage like kimchi(bonus points for testosterone for having things like ginger, garlic, and onion), and quality dark chocolate. Those are all at least not bad for testosterone, if not good or great, and also could help block estrogen and/or flush it. Dairy can be not great, but I think that's definitely mainly conventionally raised dairy, not quality raw dairy. Naturally present hormones aren't going to be much of a concern, definitely not in the context of a diet/lifestyle like mine, I doubt it'd have a real noticeable negative impact on test and estrogen. Quality grass-fed whey especially, most especially after fasted training with raw honey is so great for building lean muscle, that makes up for it. Whey is underrated for being dense in nutrients too, if it's quality grass-fed and not a whey isolate, it maintains a lot of the nutrition from milk, it's just mainly missing the fat soluble vitamins but you don't want that after fasted training with raw honey anyway, doing targeted keto you can get those later in the day.
And I really like herbal stuff and things like shilajit and an ionic boron/magnesium liquid supplement. Been trying really strict keto and fasted training, then quality unheated/unstrained raw honey like Really Raw Honey with grass-fed plain whey, with the boron and beef organs after fasted training, then back to strict keto 2-3 hours later. Fasted training can increase cortisol so it's a great time to have the whey and honey to lower it, and raw honey and whey is great for lowering cortisol. I really need to stop caffeine in the morning before training and during too, to help manage cortisol. Technically it'd break the fast, but taking ashwagandha right before fasted training could help too, I don't see why it'd hurt. Probably a good idea to cycle between fasted training, keto nutrition before training, and cyclical keto so carbs before training some of the time.
@@CarbonGearSolid Do you mean as far as taste and giving brief feelings of energy? Because it's definitely a negative thing to have. Probably won't be noticeably bad to your average person to have 1-2x a week or so, maybe daily after months. I got symptoms from sucralose in the past so stopped that for good, aside from rare occasions since then but back to being strict about it. But anyone serious about their health and especially gut health should avoid it, getting serious about diet is going to be so much better for energy in the long run anyway. A lot of these energy drinks are a way for humans to cope with not realizing how nutrient deficient they are in the first place, and most likely sleep deprived so they need to artificially produce 'energy' in their body, which is mostly forcing secretion of stress hormones and then crashing.
Most people might not realize optimal vitamin D is actually around 8,000 IU's a day, 10x the RDA. You'd have to eat like a pound of wild-caught salmon a day to get that, or get it from the sun, or supplement it. Vitamin D3 is extracted from sheep's wool using hexane, it's best to put 8,000 IU's or so on your skin if not getting enough sun, for testosterone it's great to put on your balls too lol, or get sun on your balls if you can in private. Most people aren't getting nearly enough vitamin D, even supplementing it in the diet isn't as ideal as oil on skin or sun, and people are afraid if getting sun without sunscreen which blocks vitamin D.
There's a lot of issues like this with most people being nutrient deficient in at least one thing and probably not realizing it, let alone actually getting optimal amounts of things. That and the brain probably not naturally producing feel-good chemicals optimally, is a large part of the reasons people turn to things like energy drinks in the first place, but obviously it's not so easy to fix and can take years to do so even once people realize it. It takes some knowledge, self-discipline, along with some money and privilege as a lot of people can't afford or even access the right things.
Thank you for not only going over what to avoid in these energy drinks but also suggesting great alternatives such as matcha or creating your own blend using the ingredients you need and/or are beneficial to you; furthermore, thank you for providing a brief description of what many of these ingredients do to the body and their origin or relation to other potentially harmful substances.
Those fully stocked shelves got me feeling some type of way right now
*i drink gasoline*
Boxing Now isn’t that from the movie “Top Secret “? A classic with Val Kilmer. I know I’m aging myself here, but it’s a classic and must see if you need a comedic escape from what’s going on in the world. The guy named Chocolate Mousse chugs it then says “Gasoline, ha ha ha ha!”
Hi Thomas, I was actually sent to the emergency room for drinking Monsters and Redbull. I was working a job that was extremely high energy, very fast paced and wouldn't you know, it was a fast food joint. I won't disclose which one. I was drinking either 3 monsters a day or 3 redbulls a day. This was for over a year. I would wake up and feel like a bag of potatoes. Heavy, weak, and very thirsty ALL the time. I would have my morning coffee, didn't really eat breakfast, and around 10 i'd start my energy drinking. By lunch time I was done with my first 2 drinks and would just munch on some thing for lunch. Then id drink my last drink around dinner time and id have a small dinner. I thought i was in shape, and i thought everything was fine. But one day i woke up and felt like i needed a gallon of water. I drank water ALL day and stayed home. I felt worse around lunch time and started feeling weak and very dizzy. I couldn't even get off the couch. I called my mom and she rushed me to the ER with a very high fever. They took blood and did test and told me my kidneys were close to shutting down because i was septic and asked me about my daily routine. As soon as i mentioned my energy intake my Drs jaw dropped. He made me promise id stop drinking them and i was in the hospital for 5 days! I no longer work at that establishment and now im a stay at home mom. Ive went from 145lbs to 200lbs. :-( I am no longer drinking energy drinks but im glad to know there's options. Me and my husband are starting the keto diet because of you Thomas and your videos. Wish us luck. Sorry for the long message but i had to share. Thanks for the great videos. Your teaching me a lot!
My mother in law was also sent to the hospital by red bull now I told her take Celsius it’s Amazing😊
Thomas, get your own brand of energy drinks on the shelves!
Before I even watch this, I already know my favorite drinks are going to be Thomas’s worst.
I have found the v8 energy drinsk which contain only sugar from the juice itself and 80mg of caffiene. They would certainly not work for keto or fasting, but do seem to be a relatively clean pickmeup for later in the day. (I tend to drink one or two getting through work.)
This has been a big eye opener ngl ! , As a type 1 diabetic and Celiac intolerant person who loves a energy drinks ( sugar free obviously ) with out sounding stupid I didn't know there was certain ingredients that effect the pancreas or your gut two things I have to be pretty careful with I've learned allot from this video and will use this as future reference when I'm looking for energy drinks for sure so thanks !
Thomas can you make a list of things for us to avoid so we can screen shot them at one time and have a reference when we shop?
According to this guy, avoid basically everything..smh there is no need
That first "Thomas Approved" drink you grabbed totally had Acesulfate potassium in it. ( 9:00 ) That second option Hi-Ball one is a very clean choice though, glad you found one( 12:56 ) Keep up the great work.
Oh my God thank you I was going to say it, the first one is owned by subway sandwich Ella mayo and the second one is healthy and all but taste very bad
He read it and it didn't have Acesulfate in it. Do you have insider information that it does?
XYIENCE, a zero calorie energy beverage, has re-launched under new ownership. The new owner is Austin, Texas-based Big Red Inc.
@@joshuaread6838 it's clearly visible on the list. He just didn't read far enough down
As someone who dosent drink coffee and relies on energy drinks for caffeine im glad to see my go to Xyience get his approval. The cherry lime is still one of the best tasting ones out there.
Could have saved the 24 minutes and just said everything on these shelves is complete garbage and not healthy to consume.
He was figuring it out for himself, it’s not like he walked into the store knowing what ingredients each and every energy drink has. That’s why he did this video, to figure out with us what ingredients are in certain energy drink brands.
I drink 1-2 cans of 8.4 oz Sugar-Free Red Bull everyday--it's perfectly "clean" for me. It's the only way I can absorb vitamins B6 and B12. I also like the caffeine, the baking soda, and the taurine in it.
The first one he picked had the ace K in it too. it was right under root extract on the left hand side at the 9:00 min mark
WOW just came back to this channel to see how this dude is doing and this guy blew up!! i remember back in the day when he only have a few thousand subs, great content man keep it going
Thank you for this! :-)
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if you did an episode on artificial sweeteners (like, all of them) and with the technical/chemical details as to what they do in the body and why they might be bad (or okay) and so on. A lot of the Keto and fasting forums I belong to are completely confused when it comes to artificial sweeteners.
This was a phenomenal video - I drink a lot of sugar free drinks - primarily BANG and it’s incredible. Had no idea about these alternatives. I drink it everyday haha -
Subscribing to your channel has changed my life thank you the one thing I love the most is you don’t b.s or lie you tell it how it is and I thank you again 💪🏻✌️
Hey I just wanted to let you know that I watched your video and I made three pages in notes, Satonic energy is my Energy drink that I’m working on right now and it’s going to come to life soon, your notes really help
In the vid the Xcience has Ace K you missed it... [but thanks for the vid!]
I saw that too... it’s towards the bottom after the inositol and before the ester of wood rosin. Weird Xcience!
Great content as always Thomas just wanted to point out at 8:58 the drink you said was ok to have actually has Ace K its just lower on the list cheers
So basically we should just go buy those ginseng and guarana shots they sell at the gas stations! Monster Zero Ultra (silver can) is the only one I've ever bought and used. Aside from the sucrolose like you said, it seems to be fairly clean.
I love how he *actually* gets angry when he sees at sugar and carbs. 😂
Thank you for the quality videos that you put out, we all appreciate you. You are the man. #ForwardThinking
I had a bang for the first time in about 3 years. At the time, felt GREAT! The day after, my gut was so trashed. Acid reflux like mad. Never again. For energy I now take nitric oxide pills, found on Amazon, by Snap. I’m no promoter but this stuff gives me great consistent energy all day and is all natural. I got my dad on it and he’s loving it too.
This has definitely changed my shopping list, great content. I would love to see you take a look at some of the common gaming energies powders that are out now. G fuel, advanced GG, Sneak, etc.
Great review. Hi-Ball (Vanilla flavor) has been my go to and am biased as my wife's company, Anheuser-Busch, helps distribute this product but you are spot on with it being a clean energy drink with zero sweeteners.
Overall I've been trying to drink less of these overall and drink Spindrift sparking water with real fruit (Zero 'natural flavors'). I just wish they had more flavors.
Thanks!
Ya @9:00 on the time there on that energy drink that you said on not having Acesulfame Potassium it does. It's says it under root Extract. In the Ingredients
Thomas, thanks for making videos! Can I suggest that you make your own intermittent fasting friendly energy drink?!?!
this was the video I needed to watch, Thomas.. thanks!
Thanks so much for doing this man!
I am an RN and one of our doctors (Andy Hemmen) made a energy drink. We love it. Its called, beyond energy: The dopamine drink. It really helps us with the long 12-16 hr shifts on our feet. The night shift loves it too.
Wow ~ I’d like to get a hold of that drink. Thanks for being out there in the craziness!!!
Always astounded by how much I read and study this stuff to only look 👀 at one of your videos and realize I don’t know shit. Thanks Thomas for making me feel inferior and but really smart at the same time 🤓
Thank you Thomas for telling it like it is.
I do omad keto and have done If for years and I start every single morning with a bang I have not noticed any change in results . Not going to let a 0 cal 0 carb energy drink that taste amazing slow me down
I just found those cookies at Sprouts yesterday. Lenny & Larry have a Keto cookie version as well.
Yea XYience(sp?) did have Acesulfame potassium. Still watching. Hoping you review in this vid or later a drink called hi ball.
When I saw this title, I thought "this must be a sponsored, online only energy drink because I KNOW that they all have at least Ace K".
I haven't tried a Hyball in years, and they're not as common anymore. But they're inexpensive from what I remember. Will have to try them again when I have a hankering.
Zevia energy is by far the cleanest I've found. Very basic, only 5 ingredients, with "natural flavors" being the very last one. Tastes great if you're used to using Stevia as a sugar substitute. Just like sucralose, stevia has a very distinct flavor.
I also get the FocusAid zero sugar in the powder packs, comes out to just over $1 a pack and you just add it to water. No sugar, no sucralose, no agave nectar. It uses stivia and munk fruit as the sweetener.
Rowdy energy is pretty good as well, but tastes a little soapy.
Please reply to this commitment if anyone else has similar suggestions with clean sweeteners (stevia, monk fruit, Allulose)
Why can’t these MF just make clean energy drinks 🤦🏻♂️
funniest thing I saw on one of those labels is "0 cals" on the front, turned it around and it listed 4 types of sugars in it
Made a review on taka which is probably the cleanest energy drink out there. Two flavors, both really good.
There is a bunch of different forms of the low carb monsters. I've had them at 2 carbs a can all the way to 11. They all kinda look the same e so check every can. Got knocked out of ketosis a few times from not checking each blue low carb monster can. Hope this helps!
This was very helpful my man, thank you do much
I'm really tryna lose weight and love energy drinks
I like to think of macronutrients (like carbohydrates) and chemical compounds (like caffeine) as being like fuels with different octane levels and the different chemical additives that are used to make them work more efficiently, the results dependent on how the engine using them has been tuned.
Kudos on choosing to go ahead and do energy drinks even though we kinda all figure they're not the greatest for you. I truly love Bang. I love the new Reign Thermogenic. I was delighted at Xyience choice though. The Cherry Limeade flavor isn't bad. I don't get nearly the feeling from them compared to Bang/Reign though. I need energy drinks to give up the cheap sucralose and start throwing in stevia/monk fruit. However, most of the time it makes them taste horrible when they come out with those flavors. In the end, I feel like energy drinks are my guilty pleasure.
Black plain coffee for me. Twice a day.
@@SSx90
Many people drink coffee...
If you don't need/want it, great... but, two cups of coffee a day isn't bad. Especially compared to the average coffee drinker.
Hi ball black cherry is awesome!! Made with organic cherry it’s the best clean, organic, energy drink. They have other flavors like ginger. Pomegranate. Lime. Peach. Wild berry.
I’m keto, and I have a Bang every now and then and it hasn’t lowered my ketones. Sour head is the best😍
Thomas, thanks for Making this Video. I can honestly say I have an addiction to energy drinks. Mainly Monster, drinking up to 3 a day just for the taste. I know that is horrible, but I did at some point want your take on energy drink alternatives. Thanks for sharing.
Try yerba mate, you might have to brew your own if you want it without sugar.
Glad you can video without being harrassed like you were in LA.
Thank you I’ve been so oblivious I’ve learned a lot thank you🙂
I live in Colorado and we have one here from here called GO FAST. Look at the ingredients. Amazing from what I can tell. Great video very informative. Thank you
Thanks for breaking those down.
What about Gatorade zero and those type drinks ?!! Please do a video on that Thomas 🙏🏼. Thanks for all you do!
We prefer taka for our non caffeinated energy drinks. Did a review on the pros and cons but definitely one of the healthiest energy drinks out there.
@@tammybaxter4911 why aren’t they good, I’ve been seeing a lot of mixed explanations if they’re good or not
Thomas you need to come out with some energy drinks! I will surely buy. I was hoping you'd find one cause after years of reading the labels I could not find any suitable ones . So I never drank them. Do they think everyone is blind to the added sweeteners that throw us out of ketosis. I often also felt frustrated even before I watched your channel. But after watching your channel I have gained knowledge on some keto- friendly foods. Thanks again.
Worst mistake generously consuming celsius thinking it might be alright until I dug into the downsides of sucralose and the over abundance of vitamins. He's pretty spot on.
I’ve been drinking Celsius packets as a cheaper alternative and seemingly decent but now I need to find something else 🤦♂️
Hey Thomas, weird question for you:
I'm a Type 1 Diabetic who wears an insulin pump, so I'm wondering if the intrinsic insulin response from Acesulfame Potassium is worth overlooking or if there are other negative aspects to consider as well?
I have type 1 too, but I've never had my blood sugar rise from drinking an energy drink with no carbs in it.
I love his' genuine review' .
I've been staying away from Acesulfame Potassium for a while now after I heard it had bad neurological effects (I have neuro issues as well) and was definitely making my pre-existing sy,ptoms worse. I ALSO have PCOS and had no idea that it spiked your Insulin levels. I used to drink a brand of protein drinks (for low carb diet) that didn't really work. Crazy to think that it was probably making everything worse because of the Acesulfame Potassium! Thanks for the info, super helpful. :)
@8:24 Xyience energy with Thomas Dolby 'blinded by science', playing in the background :0
It basically comes down to the lesser of evils with these drinks. I guilty because Monster Lo-Carb is the only one I drink, but with blood testing most times I hardly saw a insulin spike, depending on the amount I consumed.
Xyience had asasulfame potassium, which is like Ace K or aspartame. I’m learning. Thank you, Thomas. Thank you 🙏
So fit-aid is probably the cleanest drink I’ve had. It’s not meant to be an energy drink, but it has 45G of caffeine. It’s also sweetened stevia. I’d say drink those after a morning workout for a good boost. Also it’s keto and paleo friendly.
I'm curious to know your thoughts on the energy drink called "celsius"
Omg this is a really good video I appreciate you for share this information.
well done mate, thanks a lot for inside info, I was wondering how this stuff affects me
Hey Thomas, you skipped the Guru energy drink which is probably the cleanest one on those shelves. Guru lite only 3 net carbs, ingredients (Sparkling water, organic cane sugar, organic lemon juice concentrate, organic flavors, monk fruit juice concentrate, organic green tea extract, organic stevia extract, citric acid, organic guarana extract, organic echinacea extract, organic Panax ginseng extract)
What about an energy drink for long work days/nights and not for work outs?
Thank you for the video. I need healthy energy for all that I do. I like how you broke down all the ingredients. I took notes in my phone so that I know what to look for when I'm out looking for an energy drink. I just got some Bareorganics energy packets. I use to buy organic energy drinks, but it's hard to find anymore. I've been drinking the crap energy drinks and wanted a change.
Thank you, this is so informative
Hey Thomas, please expand on things like Guaraná and Yerba Mate, thanks!
Where is the link for a homemade pre workout (that doesn’t break a fast) with ingredients you can purchase from Amazon??
Just by some L-Citruline & Beta alimine added to your coffee or water & your good to go.
Thanks for explaining in detail what those chemicals do. I'll need to cut out the Sucralose and Ace-K now. Hope that Hi-Ball tastes good.
I have seen this video 9 times and still learning new things
Zevia makes a few great energy drinks too.
Bang is the best Energy drink and Celsius live fit!!!!
I'm new to keto and still in the researching and learning phase...can someone clarify for me if you can have an insulin spike without having a glucose spike and if so does the insulin spike without the glucose spike still prevent or even cause problems with weight loss/gain?
Celcius and reign are my go to energy drinks,
If I'm going for a hardcore workout I only use pre workout, preferably total war.
sucralose in both, not only do they make it hard to digest carbs but they also destroy your gut bacteria
Add GHOST to your updated energy drink review. Yes, it has sucralose- but I have noticed weight loss on the days I drink it while on KETO. I am interested to find your take on it since it seems to mainly only be available in nutrition stores.
Safeway, just like a "names multiple grocery stores I have never heard of." So...like a food Lion/Harris Teeter/Kroger/Shop Rite?
How dare he name stores that aren't in your area! He didn't make the video just for you.

Well enough rambling. Thanks for your time.
The Clean brand energy drinks without sugar are great! I’m sure they would be Thomas approved. And also, there is a brand called ‘True North’ that has a flavored energy sparkling water that is good as well. I’m sure it would pass the test!
You totally missed their entire section of clean energy drinks in the next aisle by the sport drinks. They carry Yerbae, Runa, Cascade and others that are completely clean. You should go back
Holly moly that store has so many stuff.
Xyience actually does have Acesulfame Potassium in it. You can see it towards the bottom left.
He was standing right in front of GURU Lite, would have loved to hear his thoughts on it. 2g sugar but fully organic ingredients
@Eric Spartz I met the Guru team at a tradeshow i was working a few years back..since it was in Chicago I drove to it. They were like, bro..do you have a car with you..I said yeah... they were like here you go. I had a basement full of cases of Guru for 2 years 🤣🤣
Would of loved if you did more of the monster ultra ones and the other Rockstar sugar free ones..
