Yay Schmincke! Congrats on your new paint babies. They're such good paints. Some little info tips: quin-ack-rid-own is the best I can think on how to write out how you say quinacridone :) More opaque colors, especially yellows, reds, and oranges, will look more like their painted colors because of the way the light interacts, but transparent pigments tend to look darker (like that yellow) than they will actually paint out. That yellow is referred to as Nickel Azo Yellow by most other brands, and like you found out, it mixes to make such lovely tones. Schmincke also uses oxgall in their paints which is why they flow so well, though not all professional paints use flowing agents (Mission Gold is a good example, they barely move at all!). I hope that helps a bit, and that you have fun with your new paints! Love your little unicorns as well :)
Woah this is some good info. Thanks for sharing!
@@tabletopfriends694 Thanks! Glad it was helpful :)
These watercolors look nice but what I enjoy the most are these great looking little monsters you draw 😃✌️
Thanks! They were a lot of fun :)
Schmincke are really vibrant and high quality. You will notice a handling difference compared to your Shinhan paints which follow oriental tradition, formulated without dispersants or wetting agents so are less reactive wet in wet. Eastern/ Oriental painting styles are traditionally more calligraphic, stroke based, where as European styles were more layer based. Schmincke watercolour follows the European / western style, formulated for high transparency / high flow, using Ox gall as a wetting agent to increase dispersion. Most western brands - WN, Sennelier, Daniel Smith, M Graham etc are made this way.
ah your art has such like a warm feel to it. i dont know how to explain it, but it makes me feel comfortable and safe? in a way? i dont know, it's hard to explain, but it's definitely a good, home-y feeling :0 keep doing what you do, cause it's awesome and very inspiring.
These drawings are dope! how long did they take?
Edit: You know without the editing and stuff
Hmm maybe 2 hours each total!
Your channel is so calming, I love watching you after a long day :).
Your videos are so relaxed.
"I want to do something magical, *because I can*
same
They left up pretty nicely!
These creatures are super cuteeee
Those little creatures are really cute! You did a great job with new materials. :-)
I watch these videos so I can vicariously enjoy art supplies I'm far from affording. Then I stare at my Walmart paints until their color is infused with my loathing.
I've just discovered how good the Schmincke paints are! So glad you are enjoying them too :D
All those colors look super bright! 😮 Maybe once I get better at painting I'll invest in those fancy smancy paints lol
These are lovely paints and they do excellent flat washes. I'm impressed!!! I love your art work. ☺❤
Those new paints are amazing. Great work as usual. I want one of those as a pet or a friend.
I got inspired to start doing water colour just recently I’m about to do my 3rd one today keep making videos I love your creatures you make they’re so CUTE you also inspired me to do digital art so thanks again :D
I'm using a mix of Schmincke akademie and horadam for years now and they are great :) in addition to your colors I would maybe recommend a light ochre and burnt umbra for muting down stuff? And maybe a tube of sap green
Just realised that you are left handed) love your art😘😘😘
I'm so glad you have the them!! I love them!!
They would be cool stickers
Awesome, I just love theses schmincke watercolors. Cute art 👍
You're so damn goid at creature creation. Love it!
Awww, these creatures turned out so adorable! And wow the colors are amazing! I only have one small pan of the Schminke Horadam watercolors and yeah, they are pretty amazing! Probably will buy more someday :)
You really inspire to actually draw everyday
Bloom/flow/spread doesn’t necessarily indicate higher quality, it’s mostly just as a result of whatever binder the company uses in their formula. I recently did a big review of shinhan PWC versus their student line (deceptively names shinhan professional) and because they’re Asian watercolors, they very likely lack oxgall in their binder, unlike European watercolors that usually have dispersing agents in their mix. It’s mostly just a different style of how the paints work, and it’s good to know the properties of your paint when you go to use them, that way you can give them their best chance.
Now that you’ve tried very flowy paints in comparison to the very tightly-controlled PWC, are you finding you prefer one over the other?
I didn’t like schmincke the first time I tried them, because I’d been pretty much using a lot of REALLY concentrated Daniel Smith colors at that point....but it turns out I was just a fool and got earthy colors that I don’t really like normally, anyway! Now? I like Schmincke more than I did, though I’m not sure HOW MUCH I like them.
Schmincke 🙄wow.. I have always wanted to try these...
I was wondering where was your video yesterday xD
(uploald when you can, im not forcing you to be on time.Everything happens.)
So cute :3
Love Schmincke 🧡 hey what is that brush you used?
Great work!!! Love how you do the fine painting on top of a wash
The Schmincke Horadam watercolors look really nice in your video. Do you think you will use the Schmincke more than your previous watercolors?
I saw that Jackson's had them on sale and was surprised that, even on sale, they're more expensive than they are here in Germany at full price. And then you called that a really good price! It's crazy.
Meanwhile I'm over here in Schmincke-land drooling over QOR watercolors, which are just as overpriced here as Schmincke is elsewhere. :D
Ramo and Jackson’s is the cheapest we can find. Those import taxes are crazy.
@@KateTheSleepyTeacher i'm about to order from jackson's (to the u.s.) ...did you have to pay import taxes on the receiving end?
sttab8888 I am not sure. I think they get you in shipping, but now I heard they have a US store, so I think it isn’t as bad.
If someone wants to buy these i recommend buying the 15 ml tubes and putting those into empty pans. The pans are around 6€ for 1/2 ml while the 15ml tubes are around 9€ for a lot more. Schmincke themselves even recommended this in a factory video, the mixtures for the pans and the tubes are the same so they don’t dry weird if you would put them into pans.
This applies only to Europe though, i don’t know how well available Schmincke is in other continents so it might be more expensive depending where you live
The lightfastness is on the label by the way, together with the transparency in little shapes. I’m pretty sure their website explains the meaning of the different shapes
I just finished the video and I Reallyyy love those little illustrations! The color scheme is soo beautiful and cool (the one you liked the most) the other one is like the other side! Ya know (cooler - warmer)?, anyways I loved the way you sound like really happy in the video! Hope you always, have a nice day there 🌈🌼!
Schminke, Daniel Smith and QoR are my favs! Nice video!
Daniel smith and QoR are also on my wish list, hehe
The transparent yellow is PY 150 and is excellent when mixed with burnt sienna and creates an almost perfect Quin Gold! The Quin Magenta mixed with the pthalo green mix a very nice neutral (quin rose s better, how ever the magenta is beautiful). Nice buy at a good price! Where I live a 5 mil. Tube of Schmincke is $20... nice vid thanks for posting.
Why do I get the feeling you put your brush in your tea a lot?
Jel~~ such a great video and so so so cute sketches! Fantastic job with the new watercolors 0u0
Thank you!! It was a lot of fun!
You are so good with watercolors😍
Love you, your vids and your art😍
I would love to try watercolors on my channel too😍
Tricorne rodents of some kind. So cute. Those paints look amazing. I haven't tried professional grade paints yet. Sometime...
Oh Schmincke are like the best watercolors ever 😍😍😍😍
What brush do you use? :)
Just wondering
That's so cute. I am always commenting ur amazing vids bcz u r the best artist.

I haven’t clicked in a video so fast I’m a while. I’m so excited. Thank you for making lovely content :)
12:30 - Why not use them? They're nice, warm, happy colors. :)
so cutee! ❤️❤️
I’ve been thinking of purchasing Schmincke watercolours
I wish to have that watercolors too when I think I am already at that professional level 😂 Just started with watercolor in my channel from ink and I love it! 😁☺️
Part ginny pig, part ram, part goose, part unicorn? I love it!
Exactly hahaha
Does anybody else think that her voice is always so soothing and calming and I’m just like💕💕💕
I only had student grade watercolor, but last week I bought myself a bunch of professional watercolor tubes, and I came back to this video, and now I understand everything you say here :) I felt the same while using my new paints :P
As an Aussie, I think your creatures look like wombat unicorns. (Or, wombicorns!) Seriously cute.
Aw that's so cute
These and the Sennelier both seem to have very clear candy-like colors. The DANIEL SMITH and M. Graham are far more saturated, strong, intense, and dark. Not candy like at all.
aaaaa I'm so glad you uploaded after all I draw along aaa
I keep comparing my art to you
I've been using these paints for about half a year now, they are my first professional grade watercolors, so I was very excited to see what you think of them, also those creatures are cute as heck
Thanks haha I love them
Theres an almost 50% off sale at DeSerres on the 12 x 5ml basic tube set and I’m really tempted aaaah but idk if its worth it, you get a palette and the 12 tubes for 99$ CAN instead of 175$... Would you say it’s worth it?
And here i am stuck to a student grade watercolor.
try Mission gold, they are really good! I got a set of 26 for $42 on Amazon. They are artrist/professional grade
Mix in the compliment to mute it a bit or the dark blue maybe?
Love how the lil guys turned out!
Thanks average!! ❤️
Been using Schmincke since forever but only the student variety! These look amazing, oh man, dat pigmentation! To get rid of the dark edge forming around shapes you laid down, use less water. A big watery bead of color will develop a heavy edge when drying, a flat, fairly dry stroke won't. Also different colors create edges of different intensity. This is something that is also the case with the student grade Schmincke colors.
Lol yes please don't drink the cadmium :,)
pH nebula online art supply store sells the 5ml because for some reason American stores (in person or online) don't sell them :/. The shipping took the usual amount for overseas but I got them at a deal of price. :) I honestly love my schmincke paints, and my Daniel Smith paints 💕✌️💕.
I just ordered some schminke paints from Jackson's because of the sale the other day! I can't wait for them to get here
phthalo blue is one of my favorite colors to paint with
I can relate to putting paints in drinks 😬
Once I accidentally put my liquid water color brush (I was painting with) into my drinking water- and realized after I took a drink 😳
I love your characters so much. 😊 Those colours are very nice, but I shall resist for now as I appear to be turning into a bit of a watercolour hoarder. 😇 🎨
*Junicorn* A Unicorn that appears on earth during june
Ooo I’m excited you got these! I just got some from Jackson’s sale too.
@JelArts Transparent yellow is actually nickel azo yellow which fresh from the tube is a yellow brown but dilutes into a yellow! Is personally my favorite yellow and makes a beautiful triad with quinacridone magenta and pthalo blue green shade! Also most transparent colors are darker from the tube than more semi-transparent to opaque colors. Most yellows are semi transparent to opaque so that’s why they don’t get dark but nickel azo yellow and green gold are rare exceptions. This transparent rule applies to most transparent colors.
Oh, interesting! Thanks for the info :) I'll keep in mind that it works well with those colours.
JelArts yeah I tried out many color triads and those three colors for me makes the best colors! I love the vibrant sappy greens mixed with nickel azo and pthalo blue.
I love that hestu sticker on your old pallette! Where did you get it?
I got it for Christmas! Pretty sure it was from red bubble?
When you put the watercolors in the pallet do you have to spray them with anything so they stay or can you just leave them in there?
The cadmium colors no longer contain cadmium. That's my understanding anyway. Do your own research of course, but I believe so.
I got a few of these and love them! Definitely need more :)
I love your guinea piggycorn 😁 and you made me want to try the Schminkes!
The paintings you made are stunning ♡ Also i do hope you get better soon, a cold is never too nice.
Omg you should totally do a studio/art vlog
Someday for sure!
Love how the gradients in the ground/grass wash transition in the purple one. There are so many subtle hues in there in a very uniform wash. Schmincke's such a joy to work with!
Thank you! Yes they're so fun :)
What kind of brushes do you use?
And what mixing tray do you use?
She’s using the Royal and Langnickel Zen watercolor brushes. I have these. I hope that helps. They are pretty good brushes.
@@Sevvin89 yes it does! Thank you!
Oh yeah, Schmincke Horadam, top of the game. Pigments and Gum Arabicum, nothing else. The reason for the high price and the dark color (the darker the color fresh from the tube/dried in the pan, the higher the pigmentation and quality). I used them since I was a kid, though they are expensive in Germany too, the company is from here so no shipping costs etc. However, I was forbidden to use them for classes, as many of them are poisonous (not only cadmium, prussian blue is also a chemical).
However, because they don't have any filler at all like honey or chalk or whatever, they spread a lot. You need to get used to that first when you only used low or medium quality watercolors as Winsor&Newton and japanese/korean brands (kuretaki, kumorebi, shinhan, etc). Like, only watering where you want the color to spread, layering, drying between layers, etc.
Also, on the Schmincke website you have all their colors listed (for all their lines. For watercolors there is also a cheaper line apart from Horadam with fewer colors), including a color sample, information on light fastness, opacity, pigment origin, amount of granulation and pigment composition.
I love Schmincke, but they can be really expensive. They have so much competition nowadays, with new high quality brands coming out so frequently. Between Paul Rubens and Mission Gold sets, I feel like you can buy so much more of those paints for the price without sacrificing quality. The dark purple color did turn out lovely. I really like how they both look together side by side, they compliment each other so well :)
I love Mission Gold, PR is good too - I got their metallic set which was nice but expensive
I. Love. Schmincke! I’ve been using them for about a year. Once my Windsor and Newton travel palette was finished, I filled all the pans with my tubes. There are pros and cons like any brand and any line but through experimentation, I’ve been able to find my staples. Great searching video and demo!
YOU GOT SCHMINKE????? * watches with enthusiastic curiosity *
They look like capybara! So cute!! ♡
Uhm lol love the video and I'm from German and "schminke" with a k means "make up" in Germany 😂❤️
Thanks haha I'm also probably butchering the pronunciation :P
@@JelArts actually your pronunciation is really good :)
Ramacornasaur? Lol cute creature creation!
I always wonder how you mix this beautiful green color 😭 it’s so pretty!
Schmincke Horadam water colors are my favorite, but I have the pans, not the tubes. But after your video I’m thinking about buying the tubes as well. 🙈♥️
Great paintings. This animal looks like Quokka with unicorn on it!lovely. Thank you 😊💐🦄🐗.
To dull the yellow mix a tiny bit of violet in
Cute creatures!
Do they have a name?
i loved seeing your thoughts on these, i've been considering buying schmincke lately and learn a lot from your videos!
Schmincke is hands down my favorite, I’m glad you made this video so I could grab the sale for more tubes
I know they are watercolors because of the way she is using them, but they do look oddly like acrylics because of the tube.
💖❤💖
Also have you ever used paper to mix watercolors because I do that.
Sometimes when I'm desperate I'll do that with acrylics :)
i love these little dudes. i’m wondering what their relative size is to their world? i can’t decide if they’re big like a bear or small like a hamster!
thanks for the review! these watercolors look awesome!
The Tube's necks look sooo long! Or at least feel so while closed. Little bundled giraffes of color
Very curious, do you feel satisfied with your selection of colors? Any second thought changes you wish you could have made?
I've been wanting to experiment with Artist grade paints so hearing about the sale and seeing your selection helps! + w + Artist grade colors appear to lay more solidly, are easier to get richer darks & the lightfastness will be helpful if I wish to gift my paintings or decorate my room with them. The tricky part has been deciding which particular colors to get though! Know Burnt Sienna will certainly be one I hear often but for the primary colors there can be so many shades that it feels intimidating to choose. Considering their normal cost I wouldn't want to get a color that works against the rest, such as conflicting color temperature families. Have at least heard of the tip to get darker colors since they can be watered down for lighter tones while the reverse doesn't work as well. Definitely taking a further look at the sale!
[PS] Sorry for the earlier comment spam, I only pressed the button once but it posted sooooo many times somehow!
I don't see myself using the dark blue as much as I thought since the purple is nice and dark. I'll probably need more time with them to decide if there's any colours I need. I was definitely anticipating the red to be not as orange, but the again I'm not an expert when it comes to pigment names. I just use what I find that works :)
Thankfully there is plenty of time to figure it out and still be able to buy them on sale. Will love seeing you further experiment and get used to them! Loved the results of your paintings & their colors!. Though I am biased towards adorable creatures
Such a cute unicorn.. ❤️😍
These creatures are so adorable reminds me of my guinea pigs but as unicorns🥰💕
