This opening singlehandedly propelled my rating from 1500 to 1700. The amount of gambit lines in this opening is so many that if the opponent doesn't know how to reply he can get crushed in just a few moves!

14:50 This position is a transposition of the main line of the Deutz gambit of the Giuoco Piano. After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 you prepare the Deutz gambit with 4.O-O. And when they play the main move 4...Nf6 (instead of the passive 4...d6), the Deutz gambit is 5.d4!?. Their best response is 5...Bxd4! (5...exd4?! and 5...Nxd4? are worse) and then after 6.Nxd4 Nxd4 7.f4 you reach this exact position.

Hello, at 20:00 the position you show is also one I encounter a LOT in the Vienna. Same line. I was nodding along with you on this part ( although I am a weak player, I do know this position ).
Good job, you are selling me the Bishop's opening even though I thought it was bad. It now seems mighty to me.

Mio; great video! I noticed that these sidelines can lead almost anywhere in the Italian game e.g. the 2... Bc5 line can lead into the Detz/Koltanowski gambit. As you point out; if you dont know your stuff as black in these variations especially under time contraints you can get into a lot of trouble!

20.24 (In 1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Bc5 3. Qg4 Qf6, when we play "against weaker" 4. Nc3 and black responds "99% -ly" 4. ... Qxf2 5. Kd1) black has one another dangerous continuation 5. ... Nf6. My engine always shows for white retreat 6. Qg3, offering queens trade and probably better development, but white is down one pawn f2 and has shattered pawns. For example in alternative after grabbing 6. Qxg7 Rg8, 7. Qxf7+ Kd8 8. Nh3 Rf8 (or 7. Bxf7+ Kd8) black chases white´s queen with his rook more effectively than white black´s queen, (white loses developed knight on h3 (or after indirect queen trade on f2 by bishop c5) and engine shows win for black. I´m not sure, if this analysis is relevant, but perhaps good to know.

It is a good thing and thanks. Although, that is why in my Chessable course I gave following order of move: 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Bc5 3.Nc3 Nc6 4. Qg4! And White is nearly winning! The point is that a small inclusion 3.Nc3 Nc6 gives White favorable almost position!

Yeah was wondering the same as started to play Vienna myself as well couple of years ago. Then again not quite certain what would be the benefit of this move compared to 2.Nc3. Many of the games in database actually seemed to transpose to Vienna very quickly.

Almost the same position as at 19:47 is often reached in Vienna Game via 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.Qg4 Qf6. Only difference is that Black has already developed a Knight on c6. In that position white can sacrifice the f7 pawn as well and gets a huge initiative and basically a winning game by playing 5.Nd5!
Also winning percentage on GM level is above 70% for white after 4.Qg4. Surprisingly it is only the 4th most played move in that position. The move is totally legit and very difficult for black to play.

I'm trying out 2...c6 (Philidor Counterattack) rn. It's definitely shakier than the mainline, but very crazy and fun. 3. Bb3 and 3. Nf3 transpose to the Bb3 line of the Berlin, but there's a fun one with 3. Nc3 d5 4. exd5 b5 5. Bb3 b4!? for an unplayable mess. It's defo a bit better for white, but it's so sharp that your prep will win the day.
