One feature you didn't mention was the unique to the Scorpio is the electrically titled rear seats (the upright part). You can clearly see the switch bottom right at 14:32 Over time on this. generation of Scorpio had numerous changes until 1992 when the facelift arrived. The cloth trim, the smaller alloys, the 4x4 and executive were dropped to leave just one Scorpio model and on this those 4x4 7 spoke alloys became standard along with the leather seats. Ford are good at tweaking model specifications to keep the car showroom fresh during a production run and the Scorpio is no exception. You've probably gathered I'm a massive Scorpio fan and I owned a 1990 2.9i V6 Scorpio (with leather as standard!) from 1996 to 2002. Thanks for all your hard work with these videos as always.

Thanks for another Ford video. That top model is 60k in today's money. Not that ridiculous compared to some of today's prices.
Definitely out of reach for most people.
Still no leather steering wheel even on top model!

Cars todays are a lot more expensive than cars back then due to all the safety kit they have to have

I loved the rear headrests that were integrated into the seats. A lot of Ford's and Vauxhalls had manual sunroofs even on top models but there was no way they couldn't have an electric sunroof on the Scorpio. It's always been interesting that they named the top model the Granada Scorpio in the UK. It really made the top of the range stand out as a unique model at the top of the Ford range. The Carlton Omega has a nice ring to it. It sounds like a luxury hotel.

My older Cousin was doing rather well in the bank and had a succession of high end for the time company cars. In 1988 he got a Mercury Grey Granada 2.9 V6 Ghia 4x4 manual which was a spacious and good handling fast car for the time. It had the 7 spoke RS style alloys like the Sierra XR4x4. And very nice car as I recall.

My Dad's first one was Silver Sage with Velour trim and the 14" Alloys..... just like the one in the brochure. Though his had the Graphic Equaliser and Cruise Control.
Loved that car, big leap forward from his old SD1.

This was a really nice model, yes it was of its time, the late 80s was a excess. I remember in my home town Ace Taxis had a Scorpio Executive as a private hire vehicle but it was 2 years old then so they didn't pay crazy money for it, however it was the car that everyone wanted to hire. They also had a Mercedes W123 at the time too but everyone wanted the Ford. I don't remember seeing any other one in my lifetime so yes a rare car indeed.

The Scorpio models do seem expensive in 1987. I'd probably stick with my preferred Granada 2.9i Ghia 4x4.
Depreciation certainly hit the Granada and Scorpio models hard after 3 years. Suddenly those other German car brands started to make good financial sense.

Some thoughts. The Mk 2 Granada Ghia X had air conditioning. The Mk3 was in my opinion a big improvement on the Mk2. It was a big breakthrough like the Sierra. I do not like leather upholstery either. I think that the 2.0i DOHC should have been combined with 4 x 4 as they did with the Sierra. I think it a pity that the 2.9i 24v did not come out earlier and be mixed with Ghia trim. I like hatchback better than the saloon or estate. I like big hatchback or big cars with the hatchback look such as the Citroën CX.

Can we have a full Jaguar XJ40 review in the future early to later one before the X300.

The Scorpio was the nicest of the MK3 Ford Granada line, plenty of nice extras, and creamy if smooth thirsty petrol engines. I would've offered a diesel to this model for those whom value economy over performance.

Having lived the first sixty years of my life in Newcastle New South Wales Australia, and since then in Cagayan de Oro City Mindanao Philippines, I've never understood the reasoning behind black leather upholstery in cars. Every bit as bad as the "burn your butt" vinyl upholstery of the past. Anywhere with hot conditions requires upholstery that isn't going to cook the occupants of the vehicle. Similarly, I don't understand the trend towards two tone vehicles where the second colour is a black roof. How hot do you want your car to be? Go figure...
Those Ford Granada Scorpio models were certainly crazy money for 1987. A Granada Ghia 4x4 would have made more sense.

If you can and would consider look at the bmw 7 series of the same time and compare the price and specs against the scorpio.
That fully specced scorpio was a lot of money and even in todays climate A big chunk of money to throw at a car.

Scorpio trim devalued the Ghia trim.

Ford made a lot of mundane cars but don't get the abuse that BL often got and get.
