Excellent to see this finally going ahead!! I guess recovery from debt was needed. Well done Qantas looking forward to seeing these beautys sporting the roo!
In 2017 I was actually one of the lucky ones to board The brand new Qantas 787-9 Dreamliner and get a tour of the cabin And the cockpit. Great work Qantas I hope to be onboard you again soon.
AWESOME! I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN! I look forward to flying on the 787-9 when it enters service for Qantas! #AvGeek #Aviation #Qantas #QantasDreamliner
S787iFly a few years late? The 787-9 was introduced about 2 years ago, It recently came into service and Qantas just had a gain in avenue after last years big loss.
+bradfor925 What I'm saying is given that QF originally ordered the 65 787's in 2005 and planned to have the 787's in the QF/JQ fleet from around late 2008 onwards, the whole introduction into the QF fleet is a few years behind the original schedule. I was on the 787 design group for feedback on the customer experience from 2003 so we have been a long time coming to see the 787 in QF colours.
At the moment they have only ordered 8, but eventually they will order more to replace their remaining 747's and some of the older a330's. Hopefully they will also order the A350- 900 ultra long range which is currently under consideration. The 787 and the a350 will make a great combo for a fuel efficient long haul fleet.
It was because the Qantas 787's have been ready since like 2015. But they said to Boeing, we don't want them until 2017. Boeing didn't allow that so they handed them over to Jetstar.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY I have been waiting for this for AGES I always wanted to fly the Qantas 767 but now theres only the freighter left so maybe one day i will be lucky enough to fly that or the 787! either way, I am becoming a pilot.
+John Phillips I think cattle class catering would go to Singapore Airlines or Qantas (both are better in my experience) but Air NZ definitely wins premium economy
X-Plane Aviation It's a Boeing Livery in the video because, The 787-9's haven't been made for Qantas yet which is why the plane shown doesn't have the Qantas Livery. They just used the video from Boeing to show.
I would say the 787-9s will replace the 747s as the range of the 787-9s is not needed to Europe/Oceania/Asia unlike the US. Higher seating capacity 787-10s are needed in Asia especially given the lack of slots
An domestically the 787-10s will be selected for domestic use as well since the 8 and 9 variants have far to excessive range to based on domestic routes
QF wants an average fleet age of 8 years and the 717's are now at least 9 years old. They should put an order in the next year for a 2018 delivery (12 years old by then).
A part if Qantas' fleet renewal strategy was to achieve an average aircraft age of 8 years in their fleet and the 717 went out of production in 06 making the youngest possible age of a Q-Link 717 as 9 years old. Qantas should look to retire them soon and replace them with Bombardier CRJ1000's.
Been waiting for this moment always wanted a Qantas 787

Just a few years late, but at least it's coming.

AussieAircraft98 bb
now she's gonna be flying from Perth to London, non-stop!!!
@Lachlan Sturt, I expect the majority of Qantas' 787-9s to come from the Everett plant.
John Eddy Nah mate, they come from Toulouse.
+bradfor925 Qantas 787s will be built in Everett.
+bradfor925 I think Airbus planes are assembled in Toulouse such as the Qantas A380 and Jetstar A320s
nankervisj Taurean Lea My god.. please learn sarcasm...
+John Eddy Thanks, wasn't sure if it was Seattle or South Carolina :)
@Qantas What song is that it would be great if I could get a response.

This is so awesome
Whats the difference between a 787-8 and a 787-9?
It's great Qantas are getting their 787-9s in 2017 opening up new ultra-long-haul destinations. Qatar Airways needs 787-9s too.
Welcome to the Qantas Boeing 787-9!
You are in safe open hands.
Which factory is Qantas taking delivery of their 787s from? :)
+Lachlan Sturt Seattle in USA
Lachlan Sturt Boeing duhhhhhh this is a Boeing 787-9
BOEING
cant wait to see this thing in the air!!!!
+JayMan Coolistio You just did.
Roger Barraud I mean in Qantas Colours....
Brunei airlines call it the butterfly and Qantas call it the kangaroo, that means what do the other airlines do
Hope it's as comfortable as A380 coz I flew 2 times Melbourne - LAX with Qantas
It was sooooooooooo smooth
why 787s were first allocated to Jetstar rather then the Flagship Qantas?
Jetstar probably ordered before qantas
It was because the Qantas 787's have been ready since like 2015. But they said to Boeing, we don't want them until 2017. Boeing didn't allow that so they handed them over to Jetstar.
The DANGO ate my BAYBEH
Its in Infinite flight! i love qantas
And it's here.
cant wait to fly it!
VH-ZND was the best one...
Music?
+PoorPatrician I think its Daniel Johns 'Atlas'. But like a remix with different effects. Idk, soz if its the wrong thing. Im wondering like you :)
Qantas why the 787?
Fuel efficiency, Lower running costs, longer range, less noise etc:
Will The 787 Fly To Hong Kong?
Probably before 2020, HKG may even be a launch route
Bowling Blaziken ! Hope so!
The 787's launch routes will be Melbourne to Los Angeles and Perth to London.
i would like to say that there is one airplane that is superior than any other aircraft this is only my opinion and that is the iconic jumbo 747
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY I have been waiting for this for AGES I always wanted to fly the Qantas 767 but now theres only the freighter left so maybe one day i will be lucky enough to fly that or the 787! either way, I am becoming a pilot.
Why don't you do a hop across the tasman with Air NZ?. After all they have the worlds best premium economy and cattle class and catering.
+John Phillips om i will have to try that!
+John Phillips I think cattle class catering would go to Singapore Airlines or Qantas (both are better in my experience) but Air NZ definitely wins premium economy
+nankervisj 4 >> 2 :-)
i like air canadas 787-9
i also like qantas
Order the 747-8i joyce!!.
+Chris Lazenby I think they are getting rid of the 747's according to fuel costs.
***** about time
***** cause we had the 400's for life times
+foe moe What's wrong with that? The 400s are very capable aircraft for both passengers and airlines!
Not going to happen
Sad this means that their 747-400ER are going but still a good choice for business.
Great!
when is the reveal
October this year
Boeing presents..
FINALLY
Boeing 717 are the new jets that was recently introduced. Its the best .Its not going anywHere
It wasn't recently intorduced but their not old enough to retire
PoorPatrician Look don't comment if you don't know what your saying. Its best to stfu
Boeing livery?
The first one in Qantas livery wont arrive until 2017
X-Plane Aviation It's a Boeing Livery in the video because, The 787-9's haven't been made for Qantas yet which is why the plane shown doesn't have the Qantas Livery. They just used the video from Boeing to show.
+bradfor925 yeah that plane was for some other airline
foe moe I think it ended up with Air New Zealand ironically
PoorPatrician possibly, air New Zealand has a lot of 787's
What's this song? Shazam doesn't like this...
+Hungrybonegaming Shazame! ;-)
Joyce order the 787-10s
+AbsorbedPoliceMan ROBLOX how would you know? that plane wasn't even for Qantas!
The 787-10 will be used to replace all the A330s for wide body domestic/Asia/Oceania and Europe through Dubai
Christopher Campbell WRONG! they are replacing the 747's for the 787's for fuel costs.
Omg, what would happen if they ordered the 777? Lord help em
They dont need the 777 for quite a bit of time
ITS 2017!!
Now replace 717-200's with CRJ1000's !!!
The 717s still have a bit more life left in them, they wont need retirement until 2020
QF wants an average fleet age of 8 years and the 717's are now at least 9 years old. They should put an order in the next year for a 2018 delivery (12 years old by then).
HoldenisAustralian What are you on about?
A part if Qantas' fleet renewal strategy was to achieve an average aircraft age of 8 years in their fleet and the 717 went out of production in 06 making the youngest possible age of a Q-Link 717 as 9 years old. Qantas should look to retire them soon and replace them with Bombardier CRJ1000's.
HoldenisAustralian The CRJ1000 is not a suitable 717 replacement, id say an E195 would be a better replacement
I swear I just saw BA stolen footage.
Me gusta mas el 747-8 y el A380 son estos aviones que hacen lucir a esta aerolinea , no me gustan los 787-9.
Qantas funny
What's so special about it ? look mar its a bird no son its another dam Plane
tuff ute cheaper fuel and it can take passengers to different places in the world
