An interesting idea for either a full episode or a short is examining the differences between wheat/rye/barley varieties and how that affects whiskey. Because I remember reading somewhere back in early America "purple straw" was originally used for making whisky but eventually decline due to it not being a super easy crop to grow and not being good for much else other than whiskey
@Brewzle - I don't have too much experience with Rye's, so I'd be curious how you feel the Michters Barrel Strength Rye compares to Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye.
It's one of my go to' s for ryes, I picked up 3 this week! I also finally cracked the Crittendens rye rum finish and I absolutely love it. Ordered me a redwood empire today so thanks TJ for all y'all do for everyone 😊❤
I tried Roseville Union (mgp) cask strength the other day and I thought it was incredible. I’m just getting into ryes so not a lot to compare. Also Pursuit United rye and toasted rye are quite tasty as well
Michter's is quality stuff. I'm also a big fan of their American Whiskey, aged in their used bourbon barrels for some real depth of flavor. All the bourbon flavors you love, just cranked up to 11.
Please please try Powers Irish Rye ...and give us a pro opinion on how Midleton did in this release.. No real rye otherwise in Ireland.... but it has become a massive favourite foe me........ go on😊
Not a rye guy, but like Pikesville and New Riff Balboa Rye. Just picked up an SLB pick Sagamore Spirits 7 Year Rye. Hope to crack it open this weekend. 🥃
Peerless Rye is the only one I've found that competes with this albeit both difficult to find at least in NJ. Rare Breed Rye seems more available and damn good but not quite as tasty IMO.
All very good, but still not Michters barrel proof. The barely legal 51% rye is why it is so sweet and succulent compared to other ryes, it very much resembles a well crafted high rye bourbon. And the low entry proof is why it is so flavorful and viscous. Nothing else like it currently on the market. Very Olde Saint Nick Faith and Conviction is delicious though. Has that super aged rye sweetness up front, then all the rye notes on the back. Very complex, dense flavor profile, long finish
@JayMcB There is a well stocked liquor store right across from the u-haul yard on Ramon road. It might be called cathedral city liquor or something close but it is very well stocked. Also there are two Bevmo's around as well. Believe it or not, Palm Desert costco has some great buys as well. Just got a Mckenna 10yr there.
I’m a fan of this, but also enjoy *291 Single Barrel Rye from Colorado Springs, Co *Pikesville Straight Rye *Whistle Pig Boss Hog lX *Frey Ranch Straight Rye
I'd love to get the barrel strength Michter's! If you haven't tired it, see if you can find a Knob Creek Cask Strength Rye - the one marked as "Bottled in 2010" at 127 proof!
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye and 23 year Barrel Seagrass are the best rye whiskeys. The first tastes like strawberry jam. The second tastes like Apricot.
I love Rye, in a cocktail or with seltzer and ice. By itself not so much. Now I gotta find this stuff I guess. What's a stupid price for it? How far should I go?
I do not know if you are still taking Rye suggestions (you did the video 8 months ago), but if you can find it Alberta Rye is amazing, but my local store said they have stopped exporting bottles to the states, but that you can buy their products blended in other Canadian Ryes like Royal Crown. Although Royal Crown Rye is very good it is not as good as straight Alberta Rye.
New Riff 6yr Malted Rye and Balboa Rye, Smoke Wagon Malted Rye and Redwood Empire Emerald Giant Cask Strength are better in my opinion and much easier to find. The Mitcher’s pricing system outside of their regular series makes them sub tier value wise.
Poor dude lost an entire night because the good part was at the start.
😂😂😂😂

Still one of the greatest channels on UA-cam. My personal list comes from this channel.
Pikesville. A Maryland rye. Excellent
@Brewzle - I don't have too much experience with Rye's, so I'd be curious how you feel the Michters Barrel Strength Rye compares to Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye.
I would love to see if the Michters can stand taller than Rare Breed Rye! I love that rare breed
As someone who didn't like rye whiskey in the beginning, I do love wild turkey rbr
Old Forester Single Barrel Rye
Very, very good. But it don't compare to the michters barrel strength. It's just too damn good.
It's one of my go to' s for ryes, I picked up 3 this week! I also finally cracked the Crittendens rye rum finish and I absolutely love it. Ordered me a redwood empire today so thanks TJ for all y'all do for everyone 😊❤
@Brewzle, if you can find it, Knob Creek Rye twice barreled is fantastic! It's worth the search.
I tried Roseville Union (mgp) cask strength the other day and I thought it was incredible. I’m just getting into ryes so not a lot to compare. Also Pursuit United rye and toasted rye are quite tasty as well
Definitely the best rye I’ve had. #2 for me would be Pikesville rye. Have you tried???
Old forester single barrel barrel proof rye just amazing
Angel's Envy Rye is my favorite. Have not had Michter's barrel strength though.
Same
The brand is phenomenal period. I love their stuff
Willett 4 Year Family Estate Rye is my personal favorite.
Yes!
Love it as well
Goated bottle
Michter's is quality stuff. I'm also a big fan of their American Whiskey, aged in their used bourbon barrels for some real depth of flavor. All the bourbon flavors you love, just cranked up to 11.
ANY Michter’s Rye = 🐐
Alberta Premium cask strength Rye is one of my personal favourites! If you can find it make sure you pick it up!
Sagamore Double Oaked Rye
Please please try Powers Irish Rye
...and give us a pro opinion on how Midleton did in this release..
No real rye otherwise in Ireland.... but it has become a massive favourite foe me........ go on😊
Michter's 25 Year Old Single Barrel Rye Whiskey please try it for me
TJ, seek out Ry3 toasted(cask strength) one of the best I’ve had
Have you had the michters toasted rye? How does the ry3 compare to it?
Anything michters is delish. I love their unblended small batch...
Pikesville 110 Proof, 6 year, pre-prohibition history. Maryland Original.
Please try it.
Thank you for you time!
Not a rye guy, but like Pikesville and New Riff Balboa Rye. Just picked up an SLB pick Sagamore Spirits 7 Year Rye. Hope to crack it open this weekend. 🥃
Love me some michters rye! The single barrel is low proof, but available and delicious!
I’m really digging the barrel proof Limousin from Dancing Goat.
Peerless Rye is the only one I've found that competes with this albeit both difficult to find at least in NJ.
Rare Breed Rye seems more available and damn good but not quite as tasty IMO.
New Riff Single Barrel Rye is my favorite rye- really live this stuff !!
Tannin young oak trash
I'd love a review of some Knob Creek or Old Forester stuff. I'm really hooked on those right now
Stoll and Wolfe rye if you can find it and haven’t had it before
Here in Greece it costs roughly 150 Usd ....700 ml....
Sagamore double oaked, new riff 6 year malted rye, jack Daniels barrel proof rye
Sagamore 8 year and solid senator picks are fantastic.
I just now went with old forester sbbs rye instead of the michters 10yr. Michters $560 old forester $150
My two best ryes are a store pick starlight and a peerless double oaked rye
This is 90 dollars Canadian. Wtf! Avaliable everywhere in Ontario.
Reiffle rye from alberta, it's amazing you got to try it
Thankfully Michters is really easy to get here in texas
you should try the yellow rose rye. so good
For those looking around the Palm Springs area you can find it at the local Albertsons.
Just moved to Palm Desert.. where’s the best liquor stores in the area? I’ve just been going to Total Wine
@JayMcB There is a well stocked liquor store right across from the u-haul yard on Ramon road. It might be called cathedral city liquor or something close but it is very well stocked. I’m a fan of this, but also enjoy
*291 Single Barrel Rye from Colorado Springs, Co
*Pikesville Straight Rye
*Whistle Pig Boss Hog lX
*Frey Ranch Straight Rye
Old Carter is phenomenal too
I don't know if you've ever had the old foresters 120 proof green label rye but it's also fantastic but yes that is a fantastic rye whiskey
Jack Daniels Single Barrel Proof Rye. Completely takes a do-do on this.
angels every rye could rival a good bourbon
Lock & Co Aspen Age Rye distilled in Colorado
Templeton!!! 6 year is good and 10 year is awesome
Agreed. I will be so bold as to suggest a runner up, rather hard to get unfortunately, Woodinville Cask Strength 100% Rye.
michters toasted barrel strength rye is a 100/10
The Gospel Rye from Australia is pretty great, I may be biased though...
Either Michters toasted barrel strength rye or Kentucky owl 11 year rye
Pikeville rye still the best but Michters makes some good bourbon and good rye too
Their American whiskey is amazing
Copper fox distillery in va makes some damn good rye.
Nothing is better than MBSR! You won’t find anything that compares😊
Willett Family Reserve 4 year Rye, fantastic
‘’Hard to find’’ I see this everywhere. Saw it last night at Walmart liquor
Damn thats some high praise. I love the Basil Haydins Dark Rye myself... how does it compare, if at all?
(I know the Michters is 4 times as much, lol)
High West Midwinter Night's Dram
Try overholt 10 year
Wish I could find one..😔
Wild turkey Rare breed Barrel proof
This is more common then water in North Carolina
Wheel Horse Rye
Try it against Michters 10yr rye
Blue run rye whiskey was one of the best I've tried however I'm not that into ryes as a sipper
The best Rye is A Midwinter’s Night’s Dram by High West.
JD SiBBP rye
Barrel Seagrass rye
You need to try henry mckenna 10year single barrel bourbon
Redemption rye is one I like. It had to be the eye not high rye.
Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye Barrel strength. Truly an unbelievable rye
Kindred 7 year Small Batch
I'd love to get the barrel strength Michter's! If you haven't tired it, see if you can find a Knob Creek Cask Strength Rye - the one marked as "Bottled in 2010" at 127 proof!
Alberta Premium barrel strength is very good
Clyde Mays RYE
Have you had the michters 10yr rye?
Try the new Jack Daniels Barrel Strength Single Barrel Rye.
Tin cup rye isn't too bad and it comes with a shot glass
Have you had the van winkle rye? I’m not a big rhe person either but that stuff was crazy good
Sazerac Rye is amazing
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye and 23 year Barrel Seagrass are the best rye whiskeys.
The first tastes like strawberry jam. The second tastes like Apricot.
My current favorite Rye is Sagamore 8 year and Knob Creek single barrel store pick
Angels envy finished rye is the best rye whiskey I’ve ever had. You’ve got to give it a shot!
Changed my mind on Rye Soo good
Definitely one of my favorites along with Barrel Seagrass finished rye!
Jack Daniel’s Barrel Strength Rye is the truth.
JD BP Rye
Traverse City Rye barrel strength
Eh Taylor rye?
Interesting. It's one I definitely don't like. I have about 100 open ryes. I am planning to trade my backup of this.
Pretty weird this was on my FYP cause my family calls me kj
I love Rye, in a cocktail or with seltzer and ice. By itself not so much. Now I gotta find this stuff I guess.
What's a stupid price for it? How far should I go?
Even though it’s 40$ bucks more, WhistlePig 10 is amazing
I do not know if you are still taking Rye suggestions (you did the video 8 months ago), but if you can find it Alberta Rye is amazing, but my local store said they have stopped exporting bottles to the states, but that you can buy their products blended in other Canadian Ryes like Royal Crown. Although Royal Crown Rye is very good it is not as good as straight Alberta Rye.
Absolutely not, lmao. That's at least 300 dollars. You're starting to lose the big picture, fella.
EH Taylor Rye is really good
Sagamore spirit 8 year old rye is just as good to me, and it’s 70🦌🦌 in SE Wisconsin. Don’t believe the hype, and taste it for yourselves.
It's a barely legal rye that's probably why
New Riff 6yr Malted Rye and Balboa Rye, Smoke Wagon Malted Rye and Redwood Empire Emerald Giant Cask Strength are better in my opinion and much easier to find. The Mitcher’s pricing system outside of their regular series makes them sub tier value wise.
I agree on the New Riff 6 year Malted Rye. Best rye I've ever tasted.
Try the Sagamore Spirit 8 Year Rye. Also, a really good budget rye is the Green River Rye.
Wild Turkey 2024 Masters Keep. Give that 10 year rye a shot. 🥃
I will have to try that sometime when I get another liver in Mexico!! Stay thirsty my friends!!
