Great review! I've been seeing this system for pretty cheap as well. I had a question for you - did Lenovo ever fix the BIOS to let the 12700 get to it's proper speed and power consumption? Also, would you recommend undercoating to help keep temps down? And lastly, it's there XMP?

For people looking into buying this particular model, just know that you can’t upgrade your CPU cooler since you can’t open the right side panel (unless there is a way and I just haven’t found it but im pretty sure you can’t open it)
I bought this exact model for sale. Though I think just 500 GB will eventually get cramped.
I know absolutely nothing about PC upgrade or building at all. Can you please or anyone recommend me what kind of product I should buy to upgrade the storage? If I need to buy extra wires or plugs too. I've been seeing the WD products or Seagate but I'm still unsure what is best to get or if those products will fit inside this kind of PC/Tower.

@@wangnim For storage, any 3.5" HDD will work. That's your more cost-effective solution. If you want an SSD for much faster data transfer, you'll have to get a 3.5-to-2.5" adapter like he discusses at 12:40 since the included tray only supports a 3.5". An adapter like that will be pretty cheap. Then it's up to you to figure out what kind of drive you want. Most of the big brands are good. I usually stick with WD, Kingston & Samsung, but that's my personal preference for storage as their products have always served me very well.

you don't have to take off the right side panel to upgrade the cooler, but i believe it requires some modifications to their mounting standoffs to install an aftermarket backplate
I purchase the Lenovo Ideacentre gaming 5i just like the one you have and after watching your great video I learned a couple of things. Although I'm a little confused on the hardware. In your video you said that I would only be able to upgrade with a hdd instead of a ssd drive because of the connectors. I would like to add a ssd drive but Lenovo said the max upgrade on the memory is 32GB on the Ram and 1terabyte on the memory m.2 and 2 terabytes on the hdd and no ssd drive. What happens if you exceed the max upgrade on the m.2 and install a 2 terabytes ssd instead of hdd drive? Thanks for the great video.

I am still trying to figure out if my 6900xt (340mm) will fit in the legion t5 case. I know that Gigabyte 3080 was around 320mm. It would either be right on the front screen, or wouldn't fit.

Finally after so much time looking for a good combination for my HP Pavilion TG01 I got an RTX 3060 TI for 425 dollars as an upgrade and the Noctua fans arrive in a week.
All this will be released on the launch day of Calisto Protocol on December 2, installing these new components.

I just bought it dirt cheap for the cpu and gpu $300 at an auction new in box. I’ll salvage that and the hdds. Through the rest in the trash and buy a proper case, ram and cooler
Just some feedback: if you are running benchmarks, state what resolution you are doing with the text showing fps. I did not go through the entire video because it was boring. Good intro, but dont bore us with taking it apart, unless you have a timestamps for each activity so we can skip ahead. Lots to improve but appreciate the effort. I am trying to determine quickly if it is worth getting it and what are the drawbacks and whether can be upgraded with other parts. I just couldnt get the info as you did not state if cooler mounting was standard, whether motherboard can be moved to a different case, whether the PSU can be moved to a different case, etc.

Yes and yes. But the screw holes of the mobo may not line up and you need enough clearance at the bottom for that annoying M.2 hanging on the bottom. Also you'll need to get the wifi and it's signal wires out and onto the new case if you don't use ethernet.

Yes you can. you can do 2tb or 4tb
@@Markus-h7f You would need to get a device that allows you to copy your 1st m.2 to the 2nd as you only have 1 m.2 slot. your better of getting a 2 or 4tb SSD

Totally new to gaming PCs, so would something like this be enough or overkill for just playing Virtual pinball connected to a Legends Pinball Arcade? I dont want the cheapest nor a super expensive gaming PC. So the mouse and keyboard that comes with this will work for me.

in theory it should be fine, but id proceed with caution. works fine with my 3060 ti but that draws ~30w less.

It is great just it has problem with overheat mine overheated and doesnt turn on anymore im gonna return and get another one since it has warranty and as soon as i get it i will change case psu and add cpu cooler thats what my friend said to do i dont understand much about pc but it runs gta 5 smoothly idk how much fps tho

I got this piece of junk computer the video card when you update the video card to the newest driver you're refresh rate will drop it doesn't matter what game you play it will drop they do not do any software support for free they make you pay for this even though it's a brand new computer if they tell that you use 100% of your GPU when you play your games this is not true because when I did before I did any of my updates my GPU was not using no 99% of my GPU then they told me you're not supposed to be using all your GPU they just like to lie to you this computer is a very expensive computer I should have known better before buying this computer but I do not know any manufacturers that make you pay for software support before you think on buying this computer you're going to have issues with the video card or you going to have video issues due to when you update I so would take this back but it was affordable
Who did you pay to update the gpu drivers?! Just get Nvidia experience and get the drivers from there.
If the new drivers are worse than what you had previously, revert the drivers.
this sounds more like an issue from user error.
I really needed a new system and it was cyber Monday and I just received a random $700 job-related bonus and I was able to snatch this for $850 (around $900 after tax) so I said f it. I can always return it.
The number one thing I am concerned about is cooling (and yea that cooler does not look too great) and PSU. Oh yea and the MOBO ofc.
Yeah i bought it like 10 days ago now like 4 days ago it suddenly turned off and cant turn it anymore my friend said its the psu problem it has 2 year warranty im gonna return it and as soon as i get the other one i will buy a case psu and cpu cooler (i pay it monthly because didnt have money to afford it im still 16 but i need it for graphic design thats why i got a prebuilt one)
the PSU has plenty of available power, it shouldnt really be an issue aside from the seemingly common problems of them dying. the motherboard is cheap but it uses the b660 chipset, so it works good.
I'm wanting to get the Zotac 3070 that u mention but am just wondering if the psu is compatible and if it would work. Aswell with what splitter would I need to get to be able for it work.

Could you please clarify whether the game tests were done with the latest drivers and the balanced mode de-activated or not? I suppose that would make a difference in the results.
Also , as far as I saw, the same model PC with similar specs comes with only 380w power supply. Could that be a further deterioration performance-wise to the issue of the limited watt supply to the CPU, as mentioned in 20:00? Upgrading to 500w, would solve this, in your opinion?

@@paradigm2841ecause XMP/DOCP isn't 'standard', it's a conservative overclock that DIY PC users take for granted.
You need to check the non-XMP speed rating (or the speed at 1.2V instead of whatever XMP runs), as THAT is the actual DDR RAM's JEDEC standard specs, and is what OEM prebuilt/laptops etc. run 99.9% of the time.
Have you figured out an ATX PSU upgrade, or would a SFX PSU work better?

ram compatibility can be selective with OEMs, though I do not know how Lenovo shakes down in these kinds of trends.
I do, however, rather suspect that the motherboard these builds come with are not realistically equipped to enable anything close to the full potential of the processors they are sold with (at least not with the Intels). Emphasis on suspicion, but the way the system was already set to throttle so much power flow for the i7 in the demonstration is the most obvious clue among a handful of others that it is not at all an arrangement that can sustain any kind of overclocking.
Not to say that it was such a bad purchase, but it is my impression that you might gain a good deal more performance (sustainably) if you moved the processor and the GPU you already got from the Lenovo into a motherboard equipped with better VRM and thermal management features so you can get better access to overclocking potential.
Love these informative videos where you show how to take it apart for future upgrading. Im planning on upgrading it soon by getting a new power supply and a cpu cooler so this was really helpful. 10/10 review.

I had purchased this two weeks ago. At first, it was working just fine. I upgraded the ram to 32Gb and upgraded the NVMe 1Tb PCIe Gen 4. I also installed a SATA 2Tb SSD. I use it for gaming exclusively. Readers: This setup will run most games at 1080p high or ultra and 1440p at high only, or the FPS will drop. The thermal profile inside the PC is absolutely sub-par. The top of the PC is getting extremely hot. The heat is not coming from the CPU but from the GPU. Buyer beware!! If you are only a casual gamer and use it for office work, this is a great PC. Mine is going back to Best Buy tomorrow, and I am picking up the Legion T5. Oh if you think of upgrading the cooler on the CPU you will be fighting every inch, because you can only fit an LGA1700 low profile without a backplate. The only cooler I have found that can replace the stock cooler is: Thermaltake Gravity i3 Intel LGA 1700 - you can screw it down in the original holes.
I've been running Forza Horizon 5 on highest settings and have no overheating issues? Could it be you got a dud?

@@aelaan12 hopefully you can help me out even though it’s been a while, I’m trying to change the ram in this computer but there’s a random slot/box thing that isn’t in the computer in the video, it covers over the ram so I can’t even access it to change it, I don’t know what the purpose of the box is because their is nothing inside, it’s literally just stopping me from changing the ram and idk how to remove it🤦♂️

hey, i know im a little late responding to any comments on his video but i just rewatched it for the same reason as most of us haha. In the end recap of the pc he clarifies that it caps out at 32gb max, if you have already done the upgrade how did it go cause i am just about to order the Crucial 2x16gb 3200's

Only think I would do is get a 1660 or 1660ti for 2 or 3 monitors. for trading . Also make a admin account and add him as a user. will keep him from getting scammed.

Would the SSD and PSU be upgradeable? Seeing how everything is cramped inside makes me really question this, especially wondering about the CPU cooler.
ssd is upgradable, the psu is technically upgradable but it uses the ATX12VO standard so you'll have a hell of a time finding a replacement. the cooler definitely sucks, but with power limits turned off my cpu can run a little below 3.9ghz on all P-cores at 90C under full load, which is perfectly safe. there is a less destructive way to install a new cooler, i believe some AIO kit has standoffs that work in the case.

Thanks for a really good review. I have two questions. First, what is on the current SSD that is attached to the side panel, how big is it, and what do you put on the SSD and the HDD? Secondly, the computer comes with the two SSDs (including the one on the bottom) and the HDD. Is it possible to add another SSD , and will the PSU handle it?
you can add another one through the PCIe 4.0 x1 port using an adapter card.

I don't have the definitive response, but context clues tell me you might need to get a whole different motherboard to do that. Original manufacturer builds like Dell and Lenovo are proprietary to the cases they are designed with. Plausible that these complications have work arounds, but I am rather confident that it will be a learning experience (high risk of toil and frustration) to plant that motherboard into a standard case design.
I just bought this on Black Friday sale for $750. I’ll probably be using that 1x pcie slot for a USB 3.0 card
why? the system already has usb3. besides, i dont think you can access that slot with a GPU installed.

I have this same pc I got it about a week ago and it won’t turn back on the power cord they sent with the pc don’t go all the way into the pc the cord got taped on and the pc came back on for a second and I put the password in and it told me to reset it so I did and now it doesn’t come back on someone please help

you'd have a hell of a time finding an upgrade psu for this thing, but it uses the ATX12VO standard. you can upgrade the fans, they are 92mm.
