    Hey Jon that's crazy u got a hook stuck in your finger. last week my little cousin casted out and ended up hitting my eye with a jigg. I went to the hospital a week later because I couldn't take the pain anymore. Now I have to go to a eye specialist because the I messed up some nerves in my eye where I got hit. I can't see much out my right eye. I hope I get my vision back.

    Glad to see you were able to get that out much easier than I did. When I was removing the hook from a large mouth bass he flipped and caught the treble hook in my finger. Which of course hurt like heck every time he flipped some more for me while trying to get the hook out. Lucky for me, I had other people around to help get the fish off and back in the water. But unluckily my hook was in far enough that we had to cut the hook and then numb my finger with ice and push the rest of the way through, OUCH!

    Hey Jon! Not sure if you will see this or not, but when dealing with Pikes, grab their eyes with your thumb and pointer finger, it stuns them and they open their mouth and gills, obviously don't death grip it, but you'll know when you have enough pressure. Once that is done, carefully remove the hook/lure, and go on with your day!

  • @billfromelma
    @billfromelma 8 років тому

    Hey Jon, first, get yourself a set of long handle needle nose pliers and keep them in your bag (your going to want them for musky. ) For musky bucktails are good, BUT for deeper water get a couple of Bucher tail jointed baits, Pick a color that matches local bait fish, sucker, or walleye, Rainbow trout. Steel leader ( not the cheap ones) 60 to 80 pound test. Match it with the same strength braid line. You should be golden. Don't forget the figure 8 at the boat at the end of your retrieve. Just be Careful! Musky fishing is terribly addictive : ) good luck!

    • @billfromelma
      @billfromelma 8 років тому

      Oh, good job with the hook. Don't do that with a musky bait, that's why you want the pliers.

    Hey Jon B my hand got destroyed by a pike and a treble once too. Just incase you didn't know; a way you can securely hold a pike to unhook him safely is to flare his gill plates out and hold him similarly to like you would hold a catfish.

    Hey Jon B. I fish all the time and I always take needle nose pliers with me just in case I hook in to a pike I never let my fingers get close to there teeth or my hooks just a thought. They also make a special tool that's very cheap to paralyze pike just like the way you do bass I always carry them with me worth looking into. Keep up the good work love your videos.

    Pike on the jerkbait make total sense, once the water gets into the low 50s and below I will throw 5" jerkabaits and bigger swimbaits for pike in CO. works great! and any lake that I am fishing that has pike in it I would recommend bringin along a pair of boga style fish grips and plyers...keeps those hooks away from my hand :)

    Slide your hand up under the gill on a pike, that's the best way to hold them. It usually forces their mouth open as well so you have easy access to the hooks. But without pliers, it's always going to be a bit sketchy.
