    It may have never got its break in adjustment done. Back in 2007 I had a brand new Suzuki. It ran for a couple years but the valves got really bad out of adjustment. The sales people said I needed to bring it back after a few tanks of gas but who does LOL. I only had it a year and sold it, was starting to cough at idle when i sold it.

      Hey Bill!!!! I think the timing chain adjuster let go, I need to take it apart to see for sure.... I think the first valve adjustment needs to be done because the head gasket crushes down and the valve seats erode a little until things settle down.... That would erase the valve lash, the valve adjustment would be too tight, and a valve or seat can get permanently damaged... This Mojave had almost on valve lash gap, so, U maybe right.... Thanks for Ur thoughts, suggestions, watching, and commenting!!!!

    hey harvey, went on the net and found out what happens to the kawasakis. jeez. I had a kawasaki, and it was a very good machine. now however they are not making the valves any good. here is whats wrong with your quad. you will have to get new valves. ----------- Apparently valve issues are very common on this engine. At first I thought it was bad valve springs or weak ones. Just got one in that the valves were deformed on like others I have repaired and it had after market springs on it.
    The problem is just cheap valves from Kawi.
    Symptom, hard start and having to adjust the valves regularly.
    What happens is the valve face deforms and starts going deeper in the valve seat which in turn moves the valve closer to the rocker arm. It can be so bad to the point that is so much pressure on the intake valves that they leak compression and it won't start. This is what happened to the one I just finished building today.
    We have implemented a new engine building policy at Hunterworks, you get new valves and springs on any kind of internal work. We started doing this in the last five or six engine builds and even the ones where the valves looked fine in the head after removing the head they were starting the process. I removed them to replace them and noticed same pattern was beginning.
    This particular engine I finished building today came in for hard start and it was a fuel injected one. Guy drove 6 hours from Chatt. TN to get it checked out. It was getting fuel and spark but no start. I took intake valve covers off, took pressure off intake valves and it fired right up. Them being tight told me what was going on.
    Bad part about this one was it had two bad oil leaks on front and rear shaft seals, it ran low of oil. The rear cam chain was stiff and another chain was too. Then found front rod was looser than it should be on side to side motion, no up and down but too much side to side. So the case got split and after removing the rod caps, I found the front rod bushing did in fact have excessive wear in it.
    By the way you can follow these builds and issues on our facebook page. Just search for Hunterworks Inc

    I got a 2000 Kawasaki Mojave 250

    I just bought one for 350. It starts first kick but smokes like your grandma on bingo night. It was run without an air filter. after ripping the head off the right side exhaust cam bearing is worn. I dont know if that would cause the smoking but there is a large build up of burt oil all the way from the exhaust valves straight to the back of the muffler. I havent pulled the jug yet but Im guessing I need new piston and rings.

    Any evidence the engine overheated sometime? What was the oil level? Proper oil?
    Same thing happened to me once. Fortunately covered under warranty. I used the wrong oil.

    • @HarveySpooner
      @HarveySpooner  6 років тому +1

      Hey David!!!! Engine looks clean inside and out, it was full of clean oil, and no signs of overheating, I'm thinking that the timing chain adjuster let go... Will have to come apart to be sure.... Thanks for Ur thoughts, advice, info, watching, and commenting!!!!

    The valves are a normal thing with the Mojave and Lakota Sport especially when they are worked on by ur average guy that says he's a mechanic but he couldn't get a bicycle to roll but good luck with your Mojave I absolutely love mine if you have any extra heel rest's or gaurds I really would appreciate it if you could help me out I'll gladly pay for them and send you a few sticker's so you can be a part of Bike Life with us

      Damon TWITCH Layne yeah, I know what you mean, ive got a Suzuki rm250 2 stroke ive got to do a top and bottom overhaul on, owner had the top end redone by his "expert" six times this year, kept trashing the piston. It would not idle and would take a long time for the rpms to come down once reved.the "tech" said oh, thats normal...🙄 anyway, i split the case and my suspicions were confirmed. The guy boogered the mag side PTO seal and had it crooked, then gooped it with silicone sealant to try to fix it. It had a major vacuum leak, and on a two stroke that makes it lean and causes bad things to happen. So, needs new piston and rings, crank bearings and seals, and complete gasket set. Once I'm done, it'll be good to go.

      dave1135 I'd like to buy your Suzuki RM250 if you want to get rid of it I'm a mechanic myself and I absolutely love 2 strokes but I always work on my fair share of 4 strokes that have been worked on by (EXPERTS) as they call themselves

      i was gonna mention timing chain. i've had pistons cease from getting hot... on my f150. head gasket water vapor leak. i pull the piston and replaced with new connecting and piston. i did replace crank bearings while it was tore down. left cam alone... cheap fix i thought

    Hey Harvey, Are you ok ? Its not like you to give up on one so quickly ! What value does it have fixed ans and running ? So you are already that far in what difference does it make to put a few more hours in it ? Keep your head up and you"ll find it and learn drom it too !

    • @HarveySpooner
      @HarveySpooner  7 років тому +1

      Hey Cody, I have a little more troubleshooting to do. Unfortunately, the ATV may have to go into storage while I wait for parts to come in, so far, it looks like it needs a timing chain, timing chain guides, timing chain adjuster, piston rings, and gaskets. Then I need a clean shop to repair the engine properly, there will be one more video on it before then.... Thanks for Ur encouragement, thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!!
