    I've owned 2 909s. I currently own a great collection of TR909 sample packs/NI Maschine, Logic/Drumazon/R8 cards...etc, including the samples I made myself,before I sold my 808 and 909. Also, I've owned a Aira tr-8, there were multible things I didn't like about it. I sold it after 4 months. I've watched and read every review I could find on the new tr-09 and it sounds INCREDIBLE❗️For the size, functionally, style, price point, and yes the SOUND....I say Hell Yea, and why not❗️ Pre ordered mine last Friday.

    I think it's awesome sounding 👍. I've heard and played with the original and this sounds pretty much dead on if you ask me. Man I gotta get one of these....That kick drum, one of my favorite sounds from the 909, it sounds good from what I am hearing on this tr-09.
    You guys are very fun and cool to watch, thanks for the review on this. Peace.

    The new snare in the 09 is not the same. But....I like the new tight sound. I love the idea of bleeding old with new. That's why the USB option is also cool. Thanks Roland. Can't wait to take it on the train!

    OMG I bought a 909 from a pawn shop on Colfax back in 1991. Just west of York Street. Paid sub $150. Also got a sequential ProOne for $450. Still have it - actually at my buddy's studio! Good old days. Listening to Aphex Twin Digeridoo and going to raves like "Heaven" and "Outlands". Taunting fat Ed and Keyboard Exchange.

    This thing "looks" amazing! I really do love the vintage look of it but I already have an AIRA TR8. I absolutely love my TR8 and will never get rid it. The TR8 has all this covered for me. There's no need for me to buy this at all.

      I want to love the TB-03, but I can't. I've owned a TB-303 and they still can't quite get that one right it seems. I think some of the clones sound better than that. However, this sounds pretty damned good and accurate.

    SH-101? Because the TR-8 trigger out does not work well and does not
    trigger my SH-101.
    I would like to see the trigger out on the TR9 tested on a

    I have been with Roland/Boss since 1984 and my Juno 106 purchase. I have owned nothing but both since. My question is, are there not 5000 different TR-909/808's renditions that have been produced since? I mean almost every Roland since the JV-80 (maybe before) has those kits included if the unit can produce drums! Most drum machines that were produced after that (Boss/Roland) had those drums in them. I don't really use VST's much, but there are 100's that reproduce those type sounds.
    I guess my main question is, why in this day and age would anyone need a dedicated drum machine to do what 1000 other instruments can already do? I know my Fantom X6, JV-80, JV-30, XP-30 and probably a few other of my synths I can't think of (I have way too many) all have those sounds already in them!

    • @Oliver-sz9uw
      @Oliver-sz9uw 8 років тому +1

      The functionality of using a dedicated drum machine is completely different to re-producing the sound, especially when you're talking about 808's & 909's. Creatively this kind of machine can be a god send. You can sit and play with something like that for hours and come up with something completely unexpected.

    • @kbarrett97
      @kbarrett97 8 років тому

      +buminbeer2 Maybe its for those of us who missed the last batch of 909's in back 1986, if not its a total waste of time on Roland's part, its simply 30 years too late! And, as you correctly point out there are way too many pieces of later hardware that have 909 sounds built in. There just no point in this thing existing !
      Roland seem to ask themselves " How do we make money out of fans of our classic gear "? When they should be asking..."How do we go about making totally new gear that will become classics also" ?

    • @buminbeer2
      @buminbeer2 8 років тому

      Exactly, like the Roland Jupiter 80, awesome sound and design. I know what you mean, the Fantom X6 I have, is basically all the recycled sounds the JV series had, that was recycled on the XP series. I agree, they need to go about all new sounds, never heard before. the Jupiter 80, if you have not listened to it, one of the best synths they have ever put out.

    • @buminbeer2
      @buminbeer2 8 років тому

      Not disagreeing at all, but I certainly would have no use for it. My imagination can create any beat I want, but since I record and play mainly Rock, Metal and Progressive, I really have no use for the sounds. I think much more useful was when they created the Ju 06 was great. Most people do not own or cannot afford a Juno 106 and it sound pretty close to my Juno 106. With $300 on a JU 06, you can create all your own sounds, with the TR-09, still the same sounds as 30 years ago, just not impressed.

    • @chrisstrobel3439
      @chrisstrobel3439 7 років тому +1

      buminbeer2 How does this sound compared to the 909 in the TR-8? As a working keyboard player for 35 years, its kinda hard to justify spending four hundred bucks for something I gave away in the 80's (my 909) For a hundred bucks more it seems the TR-8 has a lot more going for it and would be a newer experience than all the drum machines I've owned and literally given away over the years. I'm also eyeing the Arturia analog machine about to be released. Good quality production btw ADSR .. Thanks!

      You don't need to, its a personal choice. For $399 you can get a TR-09 with a small form factor or for $499 you can get a TR-8. Best advice is to test out both and see which suits you best before purchasing.

    I hate the fact that price is the driving push behind this video. For $100 more, you can buy a MFB unit that is actual analog and has knobs and buttons that are actually usable. This is by no means an unbiased review. This is a glorified commercial. Me personally, better to use a sampler and save until I could buy decent machines. Thats just me though. I love Roland stuff. I love my JDXI and MV. But honestly aside from the JDXI, Roland has not made much I have wanted to keep.

    I don't think this sounds half bad. If I could get the sound out the USB to what ever DA converter I want, I might really get this to sound convincingly analog with the right converter and processing. But if not and for $900 and just those sounds what why wold you want this really? And where are the drum pads. Even my old DR-660 had a fun sequencer and perfect size drum pads? This it's no future thing as claimed. Even the real 909 needs a lot to be desired which could now be addressed if reissued. It's a retro novelty scam. Buy into that and we will never see better things in the future. I want a hardware peace with versatility, all effects, control and memory needed, plus the ability to save that memory without linking back and forth to anything. The technology is here I don't believe Roland will ever come close to what a serious musician will ever desire again with any product. It's just not trendy.

    Vous avez tous "raison" cette TR-09 n'a pas le même son qu'une TR909 d'origine... c'est surement mieux (!) J'ai commencé à tripoter des synthétiseurs en 1986 et j'ai eu la chance d'en faire mon métier en 1987 et quand je suis passé chez un de mes potes revendeur, je me suis assis par hasard devant le JU-06 en attendant qu'il ferme le magasin, pour aller boire quelques bières sur Pigalle ;-) et là, j'ai halluciné sur ce concept. J'ai eu un Juno 106 et 60 et ai joué sur quasiment tous les Roland existant ! Résultat, je suis reparti avec un JU-06 et le JP-08 et il est une certitude que cette TR-09 et cette TB-03 seront dans mon studio d'ici peu :-) Il est évident que les potentiomètres sont un peu "petits" MAIS, suivant l'argus (délirant) d'une TR-909, avec les 3000€ de différence vous pouvez acheter par exemple, 100 bouteilles de Ruinart Blanc de Blancs... ou aller au NAMM 2017 :-)

    Any serious studio can't take this toy seriously. The original 909 had individual instrument outs for tracking and effects routing. I suppose they're orienting this toward DJ's. Least Roland could have done was put a digital out with individual channels for DAW's. What were they thinking ! ?

      It's all Good you can send them instruments to record separately in your daw easily and process them individually it's USB bussed inside the machine. Look for other more in depth videos

      Serious studio doesn't always have 4000 bucks into great machines, I think it is stupid if you don't need the "REAL" one to spend that much money, roland understood little producers (as I'am) who can't afford old school gears, I think they did great with that!
