I remember this couple back in 1994. I was 20 years old and I was mystified by them. Their performances were breath taking. Thank you for posting!!

As much as I loved G&G, M&D should have won gold in Lillihammer. They were just beautiful skaters.

Everyone said they had no artistry, but they literally were so exciting and dynamic and unique, if that’s not artistry then idk what is. Seems like everyone was just caught up in G&G love story and equated artistry with romance. Now most pairs aren’t even together and their programs are not to the romantic level of G&G but they are still considered artistic

Фантастическая пара- то что они творили на льду дорогого стоит, можно смотреть постоянно, они ушли намного вперёд своего времени

Matthew C: "paint by numbers"--love it and agree completely. It was almost like they had put themselves on instant replay. Although G&G certainly had passion for each other, it didn't really come out in their skating the way the passion for skating itself came out in M&D's programs. And they had the creativity that I always felt that G & G lacked.

Thanks for posting. My favorite performance in 1994, by far. The music is beautiful, and these two, compared to so many pairs' skaters, actually seem destined to be together based on their mutual drive for an avant garde, innovative vision. It seems no one is allowed to talk poorly about GG b/c of his tragic death, but to me they were "paint by numbers" compared to M&D's genius. This pair, and Shen and Zhao are as good as pairs get for me, personally. The entire arena knew they earned gold.

Absolutely, even in performances when Katia has made obvious mistakes ( 1990 worlds ) people say they still should win. G&G were amazing and I cannot lie better than their competitors but in some cases they were out skated and still won because of being favoured. Everyone instantly fell in love with Katia once they saw her in Calgary and once they got married and made their relationship so public, they were favoured even more

I am a fan of G&G but I still thought this pair was more exciting. G&G would compete the same technical elements year after year while this pair was always had SBS triples in their programs in addition to being highly choreographed from start to finish. Tamara Moskvina's pairs have the wow factor and I never tire of them. Valova and Vassiliev were stellar as well. A lot of fans felt M&D should have won in 1994 and I was bitter about them having to take second when they gave such a brilliant skate while G&G had a spin out of sync in both the long and short programs plus the missed double salchow and the step out on the double flip.

I love this program too...They're just so beautiful to watch... ❤💙💚. And yes, they really deserved the gold in 1994. (I was disappointed with the American judge for underscoring their performance.)

I think it was obvious that Artur Dmitriev and Natalia Mishkutenok really earned the gold medal that night, although I love Sergei and Daria and was shocked by the sudden death of Sergei, I still think that some vote trading was going on, and it's obvious Russia wanted thier Moscow team to win and traded with the other Eastern block countries to make sure that they won the gold medal and then it was obvious after the United States gave M.N. a 5.6 and then Canadian gave them a 5.7 that something was up.... they wanted the Canadian team to win or get the silver and that was obvious when they placed Atur Dmitriev and Natalia Mishkutenok after the Canadians. watch the difficult and flawless performance that Artur Dmitriev and Natalya Mishkutenok did and it's obvious who won the gold... the other Russian team made mistakes and lacked the artistry that Artur Dmitriev and Natalya Mishkutenok had., and the Canadians were only good enough for third, they don't come up to the Same level as the two Russian teams they were up against.....they are the best pairs skaters in history!!!!

There were 3 travesties at the Olympics that year. Nancy Kerrigan skating perfection & beautifully (if you can't see the joy on her face you must be blind) losing to Oksana who skated a very flawed and seemingly thrown together program of nonsense (I've learned that Oksana's way is the way to go... just act like you're excited and happy and full of spirit and you'll win.... it sure worked for Tara Lipniski). Secondly Torvel & Dean getting a bronze medal when they clearly skated the best program that night. I always have felt they allowed them to win Europeans as a consolation prize. I mean come on... Usova & Zhulin's program was really just plain odd and made no sense and was very weak. The winners program had so many rule breaks. Lastly a flawed and cautious program by G&G beating a beautiful and passionate and perfect and technically superior program..... WTF!!!???? I was so livid. I almost stopped watching skating after all 3 of those fiasco's. Of course Brian falling on his 3axel was the biggest disappointment for me.

agree 100..not only was Oksana's skating awful, she looked like a starving baby chick on skates.
