The situation at the southern border of the United States has recently escalated. In March 2024, National Guard troops stationed in El Paso, Texas faced a challenging scenario when hundreds of migrants breached a checkpoint, despite efforts to secure the area with razor wire. The incident resulted in the arrest of nine individuals for assaulting the soldiers.

Now imagine adding onto that, the fact that these national guardsmen in Texas are at the center of a major Legal battle and we can see how this situation gets even more challenging. Because officials between the State of Texas and the Federal Government have come to head over disagreements on who has ultimate authority. A recent ruling by the Supreme Court regarding how Texas can conduct border policing has divided the American population. At the center of this disagreement has been Texas’s Operation Lone Star. What is Operation Lone Star? It’s a mobilization of thousands of national guard troops to the border. It’s a joint effort between the Texas Department of Public Safety which controls a large portion of the state law enforcement, and the Texas Military Department, which handles the Army and Air National Guard. Essentially the military’s reserve force. Part of the reason we’re seeing this happening in Texas is because they are naturally taking on the majority of these attempted crossings, with its part of the border stretching 1200 miles, the longest of any state

As the son of immigrants who came here legally, if you really want to stop the majority of illegal crossings then go after the businesses that hire them. If they can't find work then they have no reason to come but as long as long as we ignore that part of the problem then this will never end.

We live in a capitalist country that isn't going to happen. Especially when you consider they do the jobs most people do want to and that just the ones with approved work visas who although not legal citizens usually plan to. Regardless becoming a citizen takes a long ass time with low success rates, which is probably why so many choose to come in illegally.

If you want to fix it then reform the process to become legal. Removing people from work creates a large gap in our economy, as dehumanizing as it is to say they do the work that we just simply don’t want to do.
I don’t know if you’ve researched the process but it’s in need of change for asylum seekers, citizenship seekers, etc etc etc, it’s a lot of hurry up and wait. And sadly nothing will likely be done because it would require our 2 party system to come to a middle ground to fix it.

I'm a Native Texan who has had many friends and co-workers from 'south of the border'. Some came over illegally to work for a while and then would return to their home country with an increased quality of life thanks to the U.S dollar$. They told me how they swam here or hid on a train or in the back of a truck in a 'game' of cat an mouse with Border Patrol.
However, things have become much more intense as many of those people are fleeing cartel violence and they have no intention of returning to where they came from. I've recently spoken to people who are here illegally from Russia, Iran, China, African countries and, of course, plenty from south of the Texas border.
ALL of them told me that they plan to make the U.S. their new home. None of them said they wanted to go back to where they came from.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that this video is well researched and more people should watch it for a fair view of what is actually happening to my state.

Do you think the world is devided in The West and The Rest? I think so!
And this has its history and is a matter of cause and effect. Needless to say that we, the west, have not only to change policy but also "give up" a certain part of our wealth. The US or the EU, both big players were built on other countries wealth and we put measures in place that it stays that way, even "intervened" when certain developments there weren't going "our way". I don't say "bring them all in", because that would destroy our countries and can't be the solution. But, as rich as we are, we finally could help to stabilize and devellope those countries finally. No one is lightly turning his back on his family or his home. We have to get sincere or "we" have to build a fortress and become inmates ourselves.

That's not the idea. By international agreement, asylum seekers are granted entry across international borders. We just happen to be very popular. We are not letting anybody who wants to just get citizenship without following the rules. These people are supposed to be visiting our embassies and such to get visas. Europe is having the same problems we are.

I’ve been a subscriber for a while, this video just convinced me to join ur patreon. I’ve never seen a video explain this exceedingly complex issue in such a level, concise & coherent manner. I simply cannot understand how any individual can allow themselves to be corralled into any of the numerous corners of opposition, unable to view this issue for just how significant it truly is…without losing their ability to empathize with the humanity ANY solution would require. Your breakdown is the verbal bridge which links all corners…and while I’ve had countless “heated discussions” with more people than I care to remember, no REAL solutions are being implemented, anger & divisive rhetoric are being fomented, corruption and incompetency continue to be overlooked and all the while the tension continues to ratchet up, innocent men/women/children continue to suffer and die in an effort to seek safety, billions continue to be squandered…and, yeah. It’s fucking heartbreaking & mind numbingly infuriating. Amazing video. Thanks 🤘 🇺🇸

Cappy and the T&P staff should pat themselves on the back. Their approach to journalism with nuance and facts should be something other news outlets should strive to achieve; yet they don’t.
This is quality journalism. The team deserves every journalism award there is; yet they won’t because T&P is youtube-based, and the old guard holds the power over those awards.
If any journalism school is worth their weight in tuition costs, they SHOULD use T&P as part of their curriculum to show what quality journalism actually is.

I live in Arizona. We've been dealing with this my entire life. Immigration really picked up in the early 80's and hasn't let up much if at all with the exception of a few years here and there. It's tough. The vast majority are desperate people with sympathetic situations coming here with good intentions but they're mixed in with a few dirtbags of epic proportions. You want to help out but on the other hand having 30 million people in 30 years come into or pass through your state with a population 1/3 that size will naturally create a fair amount of stress & disruption to the locals. The numbers are staggering. It puts a real strain on government and stresses their ability to provide the services they are legally required to. All of these people need time in front of a judge and case workers. Even if we instituted a national program to train and recruit judges there still wouldn't be enough to cope with the work load in a timely and judicious way. It's just too many people and not enough legal experts.

I've been here for 42 years now; our schools are money pits, with a large contribution being the large number of ESL teachers needed to cope with the huge numbers of non-English speakers. Then there's the destruction of good entry-level jobs in cities like Tucson; the vast majority of construction laborer jobs are taken by illegals there. Neighbors on every side hired illegals to build walls and do pretty much every odd job on their homes. This, of course, is a big part of the problem, but in some cases neighbors have no idea. Next-door neighbor hired a US contractor, who hired a bunch of Guatemalan illegals to actually build the block wall. Corrupt contractor made out like a bandit, because no workers comp, no SS, no extra expenses associated with US workers. I spoke with the Guatemalans, who said they come across the border every year, work for 6 months, then go back with their money to Guatemala.
My son would LOVE to have had their job, building a wall, but no chance - because he's a US citizen, the contractor would have to pay all the other expenses.

@@Taskandpurpose I will raise one issue that you stated which was incorrect, but the media generally reported it the same way. The Supreme Court did not rule that Texas must give them Federal Agents access to the Park, it simply vacated (canceled) the 5th Court of Appeals order that Federal Agents could not cut the barb wire while the case was pending.
The Court ruled that the appellate court should not have enjoined DHS while the case was pending, which allowed DHS to cut the wire. It did not require the state to give DHS access to the park, which is state land. Although federal agents are generally allowed access across the country, they are not generally permitted to “occupy” state or private property for their use without compensation.
In the end, Texas will likely lose the case as it relates to immigration but the case certainly raises unique issues as to state rights when the Federal government fails to perform mandatory duties.

Actually Chris seemed to try so hard to be in the middle he missed the his nose because of his face. Illegal immigration is mostly driven by US domestic politics and not the terrible situation in their home country. There will always be a number of people trying to gain illegal entry into the US, for drug sales if nothing else. Though the mass illegal waves we see periodically are always triggered by chamber of commerce desire to keep wages low and is signaled through US politicians to the southern hemisphere. We have watched this dance for decades, well at least us older American's have. We have just never witnessed anything like the invasion under the current administration.

The way it’s supposed to work is that an asylum seeker self-reports to a courthouse where they are then granted asylum. In practice, ICE tends to intercept them before they can do that, and we don’t tell anyone that it’s what they’re supposed to do.

You are not fleeing cartel violence by putting yourself in the hands of the cartels where 30% of women and girls are raped, and countless people are murdered, drownings, robbery, child kidnapping/trafficking, etc. If you stayed in your home country you can most likely avoid these things. Or updating current refugees/asylum seeker laws to serve 2020's needs instead of the 1940's ones we currently use. I had a friend complain that refugees didn't want to work, I had to explain him that refugees are not allowed to seek employment and if they do, they can be deported for failing to follow refugee status rules. A rule that made sense in 1940's (when state slavery was relevant after ww2 germany), but makes no sense in 2020.

I am all in favor of immigration - LEGAL immigration, not ILLEGAL immigration. If we allow anyone in the world where there is trouble to just walk into our country, we wouldn't have 300 million population, we'd have a population of 3 BILLION. What I have a problem with is that these people who broke our laws by coming in illegally are receiving services, goods and rights that our own people aren't getting. Before we get on an airplane, we have to show our IDs. When illegals are getting on a plane, showing an ID is optional. I would prefer that my tax dollars be used to help veterans and senior citizens on fixed incomes. With our current high inflation, food prices and rents have gone up 30-40%. More and more seniors are having to choose between eating that day or paying their rent. Those are the people we should be helping instead of illegal aliens who broke our law by coming in illegally. We're also not talking about all of the gang members from Venezuela, Mexico and other Central and South American countries that are pouring into our country and committing crimes against innocent Americans. The bottom line is that a country is not a sovereign nation if it doesn't control its borders. And this administration has opened our borders for whoever wants to walk in. Our country is falling apart and much of it can be traced directly back to open borders. Just my opinion....

      Good post.
I advocate for more and larger American consulates in the sending nations. People can be deported from the US to these consulates for processing. We sort them out there rather than here. States can send their National Guard troops to secure the consulates. These can be big places with simple dorms, classrooms, mess halls, clinics, farm fields, green houses, and an airfield. Pretty much like an American military base. The migrants can help build it. We'll be able to spot talent. We can match up good people with a job in the US before they arrive. Ever see an American citizen replacing a roof? It happens now and then. This approach would reduce the load on the border itself. The word would get around that the consulates are the place to go. Some migrants might settle for a job at the consulate. Homeless Americans might get a job at a consulate. You set up enterprise zones around the consulate. Pretty soon people realize the US has moved to them. It's largely a matter of establishing security.
