Ekaterina, you got the look and feeling of high Rocky mountain streams outside my home! With your excellent step-by-step tutorial I can now capture the stream waterfalls that I was not able to depict before. my thanks and appreciation!
Thank you for including advanced watercolour tutorials. There are so many for beginners but so few for more advanced students. I would love to learn how to paint a rainbow that goes over a dark area. Because watercolours are transparent, how to get the colours to show on top or in front of something darker is a problem for me. Thank you .❤️
unfortunately you have to mind the witness of your paper and this is your only way of getting lighter colors. Both dark sky and the rainbow must be painted as a single layer, meaning that you can not paint the rainbow on top of the dark sky. Practice painting this on additional paper before getting to the actual painting.
I do really love your art work,Ekaterina. It's so loose and fresh...I 've been visiting your art page and I got stunned with the great pannels about the space and comet. And the process you use to get the special water. Fantastic!!. Thanks for the videos,I'll try to learn your step by step techniques. All the best for you.
It s wonderful dear Katerina '. For me ' one time could you show us how to paint sun flowers. And popies '. I am french ' you mean of painting and explications are clear for me ' thank you very much '
Thank you for a beautiful tutorial, I’m going to try this with my online zoom art class (which I offer for military families for free as my role as a community worker for Aggie’s Community Waves - Plymouth, in the UK although I do have international students too) this would be a lovely one for them to try. You explain things so well and delicately, I shall enjoy interrupting your style. Thank you.
@@EkaterinaSmirnova it went really well, I isn’t have as many students as normal but, they all enjoyed it and my granddaughter from Germany joined us,which was so wonderful. We had fun following your instructions.
nice studio you have there. I wish I had that kinda space . I just have a plastic table and scattered mess :) . I started painting 2 months ago and still learning art perspective which is very difficult to achieve even though I m an engineer but I guess art takes time
Beautiful artwork. I love hearing the birds sing while you paint. The Catskills..., how I miss them. I currently live in between the Cascades and the Rockies in Yakima, Washington. I was born in Rhinebeck, New York and grew up in Saugerties, New York.
this is lovely. I also have been to the Catskills, and MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN is one of my very favorite books from childhood. I like your voice over, and the efficiency of your tutorial. Can you tell me what brush you are using?
Thank you Laura. I use soft bristle brushes for my tutorials, but in my professional art life I only use rough pigs hair brushes, and HAKE brushes sometimes.
The brush is a 1" Silver Brush Company Black Velvet oval wash watercolor brush. I found them at Jerry's Artorama and on Amazon. You can see the writing on the brush a little more clearly in some of her other videos, such as Autumn Vista.
Ekaterina, your painting is lovely and you make it seem very easy to do. You've inspired me to try your technique. Thank you for explaining the steps as you painted because that's very helpful to up and coming artists. I've been painting for about a year and a half and I find myself painting to tight and rigid. You've shown me another method of getting that looser, flowing look. Thank you for sharing your talents!😊
Hello Ekatrina. I liked your painting and technique. I like the brush too. Is it silver black velvet?mit looks like the one I had recently been given which I have not used yet. Thank you for sharing
That is a beautiful painting! I would love the type of brush are you using, where can I find a similar one? I also just started on Skillshare and I'm learning so much, thank you.
You drew it so effortlessly that shows your sheer talent. Please let me know which/ what number( also the brand name) brush are you using for this painting.
Brushes: - small and pointy (N7 Loew-Cornell, round 7000) - wider flat and pointy (1" Silver Black Velvet, 3009S Oval) Tho, brushes are not important, as a matter of fact I often paint with brushes from a hardware store, cheap and made of pigs hair. This way I teach myself to be good regardless the materials I use.
Thank you for this tutorial I've been looking at a few videos for a waterfall, and this is immensely helpful. I am subscribing to your Instagram and hope you have more youtube tutorials.
I like your technique and the bird(s) in the background are a nice touch to a landscape painting. Would you mind telling what kind of bristles are in the brush you used? I like the way they worked on the paper.
Love the video, art and the artist. Great contribution to the art world. It was a pleasure watching you. I has watched similar artist #charmingcolours who was also good. Cheers.
Thank you very much for your answer, it is so important when beginning in watercolour to find out about the material used in videos to understand, at least partly, the differences we sometimes get when trying to do the same painting, paper and brushes, even more than the paints, are often decisive, at least that's what I believe; of cause the talent of the video painter and his often long practice of this art have also a lot to do, no question about it!!!!!
Sorry, I am not quite sure what kind of brush that is. I don't pay attention to the numbers. My professional work (ekaterina-smirnova.com) is all done with rough pig hair brushes for example. I choose the brushes that make painting much harder and figure out how to use them.
I have a brush exactly like that--it's a Silver Black Velvet 3/4" 3009S Oval. I think you will find that it isn't the brush that makes the painting good-- it's the skill of the artist behind the brush. Loved the tutorial! I have been a fan of your for years. Please produce more videos like this!
Growing up I spent all my summers in the Catskills during the late fifties and early sixties. Spent two weeks at the beach and then up to the Catskills. I loved hiking and all of the streams and waterfalls. It was magical.
This is my take on this tutorial: postimg.org/image/ckm8rnrbb/ ofc its not even half the good as yours, but hey! it was a good half hour of training as i'm new to this. Thank you so much Ekaterian, you such an inspiration!
great! I love to see what comes out after the class :) I made a few recommendations to your post, check it out! Please post other paintings too if you followed other tutorials of mine.
Glad you liked my bad drawing, i'm definitely gonna post more. you said you made few recommendations to my post, seems like i can't find it. can you please direct me to it? or send it to my email: privatesplay@gmail.com and again, THANK YOU so much for the tutorials and classes.
PrivatesPlay I was pointing out to your materials: the paper you work on is hot or cold press, I recommend to find the rough one, which will have more texture, so it will be easier to paint the waterfall itself. Also, if your pad has sealed edges it will also be better so your paper would not deform.

so beautiful and yet so simple... and the studio is wonderful!! love your work
Ekaterina!!! I am super excited for this. Thank you so much for creating this video - I appreciate it!
I loved the way you painted the waterfall. Its the first time I really understand how to paint it. It looks like much more realistic this way.
I love watching your tutorials and how you lay out your color story beforehand--so very helpful! Thank you 🌸
Simply beautiful! Thanks for sharing and taking the time to explain your approach as you create. Bravo!
beautiful tutorial. I'm gonna try it out for sure. and I loved your studio!!! keep up the good work!!

I love Quebec! I was just there for the new year celebration. Feels like back in Europe. Beautiful place.

love that water fall, what paper are you using
She is using rough watercolor paper, probably 140lbs, 156lbs or 300lbs. Personally I recommend Arches, and I think that's what she is using too...
Great! And thank you for sharing!
amazing!!
I love your tutorial!
And I learn from them.
But if you ran some of the painting instead of jumping it was much easier to follow what you do.
I have a few in a real time, check them out on my channel.
Nice! Thank you for sharing! :)
So good Ekaterina
