Our daughter wants to dance half of her chosen song with her dad and the second half with me, her mom. What would be a smooth and graceful way for us to do that transition? We'll be dancing to Father and Daughter by Paul Simon, and although it specifically mentions the word father, the lyrics express sentiments that apply equally to both of us, her mother and her father. For a smooth and graceful transition, you could either go and tap her dad on the shoulder and ask to cut in, or you could have her dad end the dance with a hug and kiss and walk her over to you. If you don't feel comfortable tapping him on the shoulder to cut in all by yourself, you could have an escort take you to the floor and do it with you (if you think you might be too nervous or bawling too much 😭).
